Amazon Prime getting all the Christmas Football

girlfriend44 · 27/12/2022 17:35

Very few people could watch Xmas premiership games as they were ALL on Amazon. Not even shared with Sky and BT just all on Amazon.
Not even pubs could show it and apparently there were some problems with the broadcasting of it too.
Who the hellmade this crazy decision at tge Premiership to ignore all Sky and BT Customers and give ALL the football to Amazon?

The club local to me charges £72 for two adults to stand in the freezing cold and rain to watch them.
No thanks. It's not even a club we support, so why spend good money.
I love that it's on Amazon ( I'm a prime member ) it means we can watch it on the husband's TV in his warm mancave instead of streaming it on the computer.

You need to move somewhere with better weather if it's raining every other Saturday, or find a stand with a roof Wink

Vitriolinsanity · 27/12/2022 22:15

My BIL a showed it in his pub.

PrincessCalley · 27/12/2022 22:18

Why shouldn't amazon have them?? We were paying almost €100 per month to sky for the sports package. Amazon prime costs €7.99 a month which means a yearly sub is not as expensive as 1 month of SKY!!! Sky are ripping people off. I Will no longer be a sky customer in one weeks time having cancelled our subscription after 11 years.

ScarlettSunset · 27/12/2022 22:22

Another house where we thought it was great. Don't usually get to watch them so it was a nice treat.
Many people who would usually miss out had the chance to watch for a change.

And you're complaining about that?

If you don't think you're getting a fair deal for your money for your subscriptions because they don't show everything you want to watch then drop them and save yourself a few quid.

Missing the point. If they had shared the Boxing Day games between Amazon and BT and Sky more people could have enjoyed some football. Obvs this is hard for a few people to understand.

If who had shared the games? Do you not understand how football on tv works? It’s about who pays the money, that’s it. They don’t sit around thinking, oh let’s make it a lovely socially fair enterprise shared between three massive conglomerates.

It isn't hard to understand that broadcasters bid for these games as a package. They don't get shared out.

I don't think it is the people who understand why Amazon have the games, are the ones who are hard of understanding.......

I agree that it is odd
a) it rains and is freezing every match
b) there is no stand
c) it costs anywhere near that

There are stands at my local town FC and it doesn't cost to get in to watch them.
I've just looked up the next level up, most local club to me and it is £12 there - you can sit down and watch the match under the cover of a stand

LlynTegid · 27/12/2022 18:11

Football exists outside the Premiership. Also perhaps some of those complaining could support one of their local teams and go to a game.

Whilst I agree the non league side in like the 9th tier is a tenner to watch and my local league 2 side is £20+ extortionate pricing for the quality vs what my premier league team costs

ScarlettSunset · 28/12/2022 08:24

When I was younger the top tier of football was just on normal TV and so it was even fairer! Anyone who had a TV could watch (though it wasn't always the match you'd WANT to see that was on)...
But that's not how it works now, so your choices are pay for whatever channels it is on, or don't (but you can still go to the pub to watch it if you want to). There's no point in complaining just because it's on a channel that you personally don't subscribe to. Just enjoy those matches that you DO get to see.

TheYummyPatler · 28/12/2022 08:28

I’m rolling my eyes really hard at a post that somehow paints poor old sky and BT sport as hapless victims because they haven’t got the broadcast rights for some football.

TheYummyPatler · 28/12/2022 08:29

i mean… wouldn’t sensible logic not be

ThursdayLastWeek · 28/12/2022 08:38

OP you’re hilarious.

Are you cross because you pay for sky and/or BT sport?

It’s capitalism.

Hercisback · 28/12/2022 08:47

Capitalism is fine when it's Sky and BT. When it's amazon the OP can't cope.

WaddleAway · 28/12/2022 08:51

Amazon Prime is far cheaper than the vast majority of Sky subscriptions so surely that makes is accessible to more people?

GinandTonic1975 · 28/12/2022 08:53

Personally I think it's a good thing gives more people a chance to see the Premiership games who can't afford the extortionate prices of Sky Sports

It was raining and freezing cold yesterday here, which is when I was talking about, when the main matches were on.
Yes, £36 per adult at a lower league club here.
Tbf, I would be better off going and watching the local Sunday amateurs play and lose than throw £72 away.
At least you're guaranteed a decent brew and a bacon buttie for a reasonable price at the amateurs too.

JemimaTiggywinkles · 28/12/2022 09:09

I love that sport is on prime now. I can't afford sky or bt but I've had a prime / Amazon tv subscription since they bought Lovefilm (who sent DVDs through the post 😂).

ScreamingFrog · 28/12/2022 09:17

The OP has made their mind up and are seemingly entrenched in their view despite people pointing out various facts to them - I'm not really sure what they are hoping to achieve.

But anyway, pubs, clubs, bars etc. can show Amazon games - they just need to pay extra, and not on a personal Prime membership like me or you would use. This is exactly how BT and Sky operated. It's called Amazon Premier League Pass - btsportbusiness.com/amazonpass

Devoutspoken · 28/12/2022 09:27

Can't you just buy the games you want to watch?

loudbatperson · 28/12/2022 09:31

The premier league choose who to sell the broadcasting rights to, and in which bundles to sell them.

The obviously go with the way that makes the most money. That's how a capitalist market works.

If you are angry at anyone, be angry at the premier league, they decide how to sell the rights. However while anyone will pay extra subscriptions (to any service) to watch the matches, nothing will change.

Prime have won the matches away from sky/BT the same way by & sky won them away from terrestrial broadcasters, which allowed everyone to watch for free (well just the license fee).

Mentalpiece · 28/12/2022 09:32

Devoutspoken · 28/12/2022 09:27

Why, when I can stream them for free on my computer?

user2754977 · 28/12/2022 09:38

Sky is moving to streaming now, we have the old Sky+HD box which isn't supported now, Sky Q will probably go the same way, Sky are pushing Sky Stream and Sky glass so no need for dish just internet, I will move to Sky Stream when old boxes pack up.

Just get an Amazon subscription for a month like people do if they want to watch a series on there, at least you don't have to have a contract for so many months.

user2754977 · 28/12/2022 09:42

Surely you know OP that to watch everything you have to pay a fortune as it invariably won't be on the platform that you have, at least Amazon is a cheaper option for most people
