Woman arrested in Birmingham for praying outside abortion clinic

How on earth can someone be arrested for silently praying?

Is there more to the story perhaps that is not being reported because if not I find this ridiculous and scary - what is the world coming to?

We can get arrested for our thoughts WTAF. Whether you agree or not with abortion this is just wrong.

Silently praying is one way to look at it. Harassing vulnerable woman is another.

Idtotallybangdreamoftheendlessnotgonnalie · 26/12/2022 11:16

She's spent 20 years making a nuisance of herself outside abortion clinics and is surprised when she gets arrested.

Then she goes on the news with all this wide eyed poor me fuckwittery.

Honestly, if she wants to save babies go help out in a food bank or protest the cost of living crisis.

SerendipityJane · 26/12/2022 11:16

Too all the posters with an unhealthy obsession with FoxNews,. there is a barristers measured take on the story that is far less sensation and far more fact heavy. A TL;DR for the lite of thinking is that he's uneasy with how the exclusion zone legislation is panning out.

Of course you'd have found that out for yourselves if you'd have done some research instead of rubbishing one pisspoor source.

Naught Jane.

I suspect if it was necessary to pray near your subject matter then there would be a lot more religious action near the lottery kiosk.

😂Brilliant

FlorettaB · 26/12/2022 11:17

If you Google this, lots of very biased sources come up high in the results. The Birmingham Mail link is the highest fact based report.

GB News, set up by the creator of Fox News to produce the same kind of emotive, fact free broadcasting, is high on the Google results. Many Catholic and Christian organisations also appear.

What a relief to have you explaining it to us thickos.

knittingaddict · 26/12/2022 11:23

I've been a Christian most of my life, although don't attend any church now and have a lot of wobbles. I'm also pro choice for the most part.

She can pray anywhere and God would have heard her. Instead she chose to break the law and potentially upset women in a horrible situation. Abortion isn't something done lightly. It was right that she faces the consequences.

MisssHavisham · 26/12/2022 11:25

MadameCholetsDirtySecret · 26/12/2022 10:22

She was making the access to a vital service more stressful for the women who need that service. It is a deliberate act to cause anxiety for women. This is why there are exclusions. She knew what she was doing.
If she wants to pray 🤷‍♀️, go to a church.

Tactical praying 😏

And as for Fox News, it is right-wing shite.

And this.

LoisLane22 · 26/12/2022 11:26

She can fuck off to the far side of fuck.

ohbygolly · 26/12/2022 11:27

Knowing what an exclusion zone is or not is irrelevant. Surely be to Jesus you can understand that praying outside an abortion clinic (silently or otherwise) has nothing to do with an act of prayer , or religious piety, and everything to do with shaming and intimidating women into doing what you want. It is one of the most unchristian acts somebody can undertake, and is an abhorrent practice, where success is considered having a woman publicly turn away from the clinic, and walk off unsupported into Lord knows what.

ohbygolly · 26/12/2022 11:29

Shakespeare was right - the devil can cite Scripture for his purpose.

Angeldelight81 · 26/12/2022 11:32

Excellent well that is a Christmas miracle the Birmingham police turning up and making a lawful correct arrest. Praise the Lord

Megifer · 26/12/2022 11:35

Of COURSE she was silently praying all the time she was there 🙄

Great news she was arrested these people are scum.

tigger1001 · 26/12/2022 11:37

In fairness op, getting impartial views on abortion clinics in the uk, Fox News isn't the place to go.

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 26/12/2022 11:39

ButterflyOil · 26/12/2022 10:38

Why the hell is American Fox News with ultra right wing Tucker Carlson reporting on this pretty tiny event in the U.K.? That should be your first question.

And taking notice of the OP username should have been my second thought!

Pshaw!

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 26/12/2022 11:40

Sorry, not the OP the poster asking the daft, disingenuous question "what is an exclusion zone?"

Namechangedforthisonetoday · 26/12/2022 11:41

ohbygolly · 26/12/2022 11:29

Amen to that.

Isobel is that you?

She's a vile harrasing nasty woman she isn't nice she has her agenda and has past history at this clinic, the person who reported her will has recognised her from previous protests as residents in the area don't want these idiots there either.

So presumably Isabel wouldn’t object at all if people like me stood outside her home or her place of work and sent her happy smiley positive thoughts about how important it is that we have laws that protect women who need to have abortions.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/12/2022 11:42

She was breaking the law, almost certainly knowing that she was breaking the law. People here have the right to have an abortion or request advice about abortions without being God-bothered.

A man with a court order stating he isn't allowed <50 metres of a woman, her home or workplace standing 49m away also gets arrested. Even if he's 'just standing here, haven't said anything to her, just minding my own business, it's a free country, isn't it?'.

She's no different to any other stalker or harasser.

It's strange that a barrister isn't able to differentiate between not liking the current law and the fact that this person breached the terms of an order made in accorandance with the existing law.

bagthoughts · 26/12/2022 10:59

Here 👋 yes that's never knew anything about exclusion zones - perhaps the news should be unbiased reporting as vastly misleading

Well yes, that's what you get when you watch fox news. Not sure how you could watch the video and not realise its not unbiased.

SerendipityJane · 26/12/2022 11:45

It would be wouldn't it ?

I'd love that to happen a taste of their own medicine, I bet they would call the police about it funny that.

Many of the residents round the clinic there give them a piece of their mind and they cry they are being harrased.

iwantahippopotamus · 26/12/2022 11:48

A woman slapped my older sister for going to an abortion clinic. Total stranger on the street, when she found out my sister was fifteen and had been sexually assaulted she was so embarrassed she gladly accepted her punishment

We have it hard enough as women. These clinics can keep us safe. Exclusion zones are a good thing
