My friend of 16 years has 2 kids (I have none yet )
Every Christmas ,birthday I get them something
This year money isn't as available as it once was but I got them something
I got them pjs from M&S each which were £12 a pair (she said they didn't need toys ) and a selection box each.
For my friend I got her a £20 gift card for our local shopping centre and a box of chocs
And it's her sons birthday Xmas day so I got him a birthday card and put £10 in

Anyway I gave her them and she said
"Eeeee not as much as usual from you Lucy"
And laughed
Now I don't know if she was joking or being serious
Now I'm worried I was stingy
Was I ?

No you weren't but she was rude. I'd rethink gifting with her at all tbh. If you go on to have kids I doubt she'll be as generous.

Newwardrobe · 22/12/2022 13:45

How rude ! I can't imagine anyone saying this !

Theoldwoman · 22/12/2022 13:46

You were being careful and thought ahead.
She was rude and would no longer be my friend.

RamonaBadwolf · 22/12/2022 13:46

absolutely Not! Your gifts sound lovely and they are generous too if money is tight. She is a cheeky fecker, and mean spirited to make you feel bad about it.

Petronus · 22/12/2022 13:48

Your friend was unbelievably rude. You did nothing wrong and that sounds like a nice gift.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 22/12/2022 13:48

Definitely not. Sounds like you put a lot of thought in.

Tinkerbyebye · 22/12/2022 13:49

No, she’s an idiot

Dartmoorcheffy · 22/12/2022 13:50

Wow that is so rude.

We have 5 nieces and nephews and some years we've spent a lot on them, other years not so much. Money is very tight this year and they are getting a £10 voucher each.

BelleMarionette · 22/12/2022 13:50

Wow, that's shockingly rude.

Gifts, no matter the amount, should be received graciously.

Out of interest, what did she get you?

tootyflooty · 22/12/2022 13:50

Crickey, even said as a joke that is so rude, what you have mentioned as gifts sounds very generous to me.

cinnabongene · 22/12/2022 13:50

She is a disgrace and I’d tell her so

Dodecaheidyin · 22/12/2022 13:51

Now I don't know if she was joking or being serious

Does it matter? It was an unbelievably rude thing for her to say. How did you respond?

Your gifts sound very thoughtful. Do not doubt yourself.

SoftSheen · 22/12/2022 13:51

Those sound like lovely, generous gifts which should have been well received any year. Your friend was very rude indeed.

MassiveSalad22 · 22/12/2022 13:51

How gross. She’s lucky her friends are buying her kids anything!!!

Dedontdodatderdode · 22/12/2022 13:51

Wow! Rude.

But…Do you usually go overboard with a huge pile of gift, is she maybe referring to it being fewer items? In a jokey way, rather than ‘you haven’t spent enough’ way I mean.

RupertBare · 22/12/2022 13:52

Did she REALLY say that?

Fadedpicture · 22/12/2022 13:52

I think she might have been commenting on the fact that you usually go a bit OTT. Those gifts seem fine to me, what does she usually do for you?

ImAvingOops · 22/12/2022 13:53

Your friend needs to remember that other people are not obliged to buy things for her children. She was unbelievably rude - I think it's time you cut back on her family. What did she buy for you?

Mooda · 22/12/2022 13:53

What did she give you?

Mrsphilmiller · 22/12/2022 13:55

maybe she didn’t mean it the way it sounded… 🥴

SkylightSkylight · 22/12/2022 13:58

She was rude!!

even if you usually buy them a pony each & this year gave them 2 apples, it's still incredibly rude to comment in a negative way on GIFTS!!

Either you're bored or she's incredibly rude.

anyway, don't let it get to you, focus on something else!!

woodhill · 22/12/2022 14:01

Appalling of her

Very generous imo

OrigamiOwls · 22/12/2022 14:02

That is very rude of your friend!

sassyduck · 22/12/2022 14:02

She's very rude. Your presents sound perfect.

TastesLikeFlavourlessFizz · 22/12/2022 14:03

What an awful thing to say!

I don’t have kids but I can tell you that when I was one myself I’d have been thrilled with that. Really.
