My friend of 16 years has 2 kids (I have none yet )
Every Christmas ,birthday I get them something
This year money isn't as available as it once was but I got them something
I got them pjs from M&S each which were £12 a pair (she said they didn't need toys ) and a selection box each.
For my friend I got her a £20 gift card for our local shopping centre and a box of chocs
And it's her sons birthday Xmas day so I got him a birthday card and put £10 in

Anyway I gave her them and she said
"Eeeee not as much as usual from you Lucy"
And laughed
Now I don't know if she was joking or being serious
Now I'm worried I was stingy
Was I ?

Yeah she got me a gift card also
Like I say maybe it was said in jest ...it just plays on my mind

Are you friends with my sister? She isn’t talking to me because of how stingy I am not buying her six children new bikes for Christmas when I am childfree so I don’t even need all my money because I don’t have children to spend it on and I should spend it on hers. Christmas Day will be fun.

The presents you bought sound lovely and generous, the sort of thing I buy my friends children and they’re always grateful - the friends and the children!

Try not to let it play on your mind (easier said than done I know!), it’s a ‘her’ thing, not a ‘you’ thing.

Pemba · 22/12/2022 15:38

@Renewthis your sister is another entitled and rude one. A bike is a big present, that would normally come from Mum and Dad. Maybe your sister shouldn't have had 6 kids if she couldn't afford them?

Poor kids though.

2bazookas · 22/12/2022 15:58

You were generous not stingy.
She was incredibly rude and ungracious.

I've had two similar experiences and neither person ever received another gift from me.

Scurryfunge12 · 22/12/2022 16:09

That is unbelievably rude! There is no obligation for you to buy other people’s kids Christmas gifts, friend or not.

It’s not the type of thing someone says as a joke so she meant that! What a cheek.

Don't bother next time.

fairtrauchled · 22/12/2022 16:21

How rude .
I wouldn't be giving any gifts next year

warofthemonstertrucks · 22/12/2022 16:26

Your mate is very rude

LadyKenya · 22/12/2022 16:29

I am wondering how much you usually get them. What you gave them sounds more than enough, imo.

StrawberryWater · 22/12/2022 16:44

She’s rude.

Those gifts were nice.

Not sure I’d buy for her agin in the future.

Findyourneutralspace · 22/12/2022 16:46

How bloody rude!!

Lovely gifts. Shame about the recipient.

RambamThankyouMam · 22/12/2022 16:47

She's a cheeky wench

MyBooksAndMyCats · 22/12/2022 16:47

I wouldn't gift her anything next year, that's just grabby and disrespectful.

Ladysodor · 22/12/2022 16:49

She’s not a friend.

bridgetreilly · 22/12/2022 16:57

How does she even know what you got everyone yet? Presumably they were wrapped up?

Wayk · 22/12/2022 16:59

You were more than generous.

OooScotland · 22/12/2022 17:02

Your gifts sound lovely, thoughtful and generous.

Your ‘friend’ is materialistic and rude. If it were me (and it has been in my younger days) I wouldn’t bother giving her or her children anything next year.

Floralnomad · 22/12/2022 17:02

Extremely rude , how much is the gift card she gave to you ? Next year just tell her early on that you won’t be doing gifts .

That is unbelievably rude and entitled!! I cannot believe someone would even think to say that out loud! yanbu

Spanielsarepainless · 22/12/2022 17:18

Next year just buy her something and not the children. If you can be bothered!

Poppyblush · 22/12/2022 17:26

How rude!!!!

BusyMum47 · 22/12/2022 17:41

RamonaBadwolf · 22/12/2022 13:46

absolutely Not! Your gifts sound lovely and they are generous too if money is tight. She is a cheeky fecker, and mean spirited to make you feel bad about it.

This!! She was bloody rude & ungrateful!! Especially considering you have no kids for her to reciprocate. I would SERIOUSLY have to call her out on it.

NameIsBryceQuinlan · 22/12/2022 17:42

That's crazy rude. I think that's a lovely present and not remotely stingy

Mugwumper · 22/12/2022 18:18

Did she say it meaning it was actually quite a lot as pjs. Were from M&S and she got a decent gift card?

dooneyousmugelf · 22/12/2022 18:45

Are you sure she didn't say, 'not as much as usual FOR you'? by way of lighthearted apology on her own behalf at not being able to give much?
You were generous so it doesn't really make sense even if she is a rude so and so

Dillydollydingdong · 22/12/2022 18:49

So what did she get for you?
