Following last nights vote by MSPs to reject an amendment to forbid sex offenders from accessing easier access to a GRC, it seems that womens rights to privacy and decency , same sex care , etc is not important. They are still to vote on the whole bill but until the legalities are clearer, surely this cannot be acceptable?

What about the victims of SO? Does this mean they will have to refer to male sex attackers in court as women?

It’s just illogical and really messed up. Ridiculous idea. Glad I don’t live in Scotland. They have lots of great policies, but they’ve lost their minds with this one.

And this actually has happened already.

They are also reducing the age you can get a GRC to 16 which means that in schools males will have to be allowed to use female changing rooms. Fuck the privacy and dignity of teenagers girls though right?

I just don’t understand why anyone would think this is a good idea? Who the heck has influenced this?

Saying that trans women are women is institutional gaslighting. It needs to be called out.

They get punished. In the Maria Maclachlan (I think that's right?) assault case she was punished by being awarded lesser compensation. Because she misgender her attacker. 🤬

What about girls on their periods etc? I hope girls get to go into school in their PE kits or have PE at the end of the day so they can go home and shower afterwards.

They should report regular name changes too. The key aspect is along side the name change they also get to “legally change sex” and that means they are entitled to access female single sex spaces.

Women’s prisons, DV shelters, female changing rooms, rape crisis support, be called she in court so their victim has to say she raped me with her penis.

@Lockheart actually they have already voted on the amendment that tried to keep the age at 18 so that has gone through.

My daughter will be absolutely distraught at having males changing next to her. I'm furious. It will be the law though that they have to be treated as female in ALL situations once they have a GRC though.

So much for their promises of protecting single sex spaces. 🤬🤬

If the Scottish Parliament wasn't prepared to support an amendment preventing convicted sex offenders getting a self ID GRC then I don't hold out much hope of them voting against the bill.

16 year olds! Allowed to legally "change their sex" and set off on a lifetime of drugs, surgery, infertility and catastrophic negative long term impacts on their bodies.
As for prioritising the demands of sex offenders over the safety of women and girls. Take a look at the link to Glinner's substack posted by FOJN upthread (at 18:38). Look at the excessive number of paedophiles & rapists on that list and understand that these are the adults the Scottish government is welcoming into showers, changing rooms and toilets with girls .

This is mind boggling. These are supposed to be educated people, how can they not see how wrong this is. Even those who are not GC must be able to see the possible, and likely, issues with this ridiculous reform. But more and more it seems we are completely helpless.

From their point of view it's logically consistent. If you believe that twaw and it's against their human rights to deny their identity then it makes no difference what crimes they have committed because everyone has the same human rights, even sex offenders.

Today we have seen some utterly nonsensical debate about what would constitute a fraudulent declaration, given that self-ID requires no evidence. The Scottish government just kept repeating that making a false declaration is a serious offence and sheriffs would be able to make this decision based on the evidence, without ever saying what that evidence should be.

This ideology only remains logically consistent if taken to extremes. As soon as sensible measures are proposed, e.g. sex offenders should not be allowed to change their legal sex, or there should be some objective criteria to determine what constitutes a fraudulent application, the whole thing falls apart.

Because the whole point of the GRR bill is that twaw because they say they are.
