I’ll go first.

I can’t help but think making someone’s rent payments eligible to prove you can pay a mortgage would go a long way to housing security for so many people. And limiting the amount of properties owned by one landlord / amount a landlord can charge in rent, would also go a long way. I can’t help but think profiteering massively off of a basic need and right such as housing is really not ok.

Im sure there’s a reason why my idea wouldn’t work, feel free to put me right 😂

What’s your idea?

Put all criminals in prison and keep them there for a long time.

TheLittlestLightOnTheXmasTree · 17/12/2022 19:01

There should be more life skills taught in school

Oh dear....all criminals? So people who have dodged a rail fare? Or do you mean criminals like murderers. There are a huge number of incredibly minor crimes and actually vast majority of people have broken the law at some point in their life

DandelionPockets · 17/12/2022 19:05

Free childcare.

Would help with so many things.

carefulcalculator · 17/12/2022 19:06

Electoral reform.
Recall of MPs.

ghjklo · 17/12/2022 19:07

elect a different govt

Clymene · 17/12/2022 19:07

Renationalised public transport

GreenTeaPingPong · 17/12/2022 19:07

Set up excellent and widely available gold-standard treatment for addictions, including the trauma underlying them.
This would decrease the sum of human misery, as well as massively reduce crime and homelessness.

MarshaBradyo · 17/12/2022 19:07

Lower obesity and improve overall health

Scooopsahoy · 17/12/2022 19:08

Rejoin the European Union. If they’ll have us.

beezlebubnicky · 17/12/2022 19:08

A non Tory government.

Better funding for Early Years settings and I'd bring SureStart back. Heavily subsidised childcare.

And fewer people in prison - better education and rehabilitation programmes for non-violent criminals.
For the vast majority, prison does not work and actually entrenches issues like drug addiction and gang involvement. A lot of prisoners are also functionally illiterate and prison education budgets have been cut badly.

Several Scandinavian countries do the above, and have very low rates of recidivism compared to the UK. Funding early years also helps keep people out of prison in later life, statistically speaking.

Spread all the over-concentrated wealth, over-population and disproportionate investment across the nation instead of the ridiculous concentration in London and the South East of England.

Cheekymaw · 17/12/2022 19:10

Democratic socialism

Free childcare.

Would help with so many things.

I would also mean people having 3621 babies, and childminders struggling to make a living and actually do a decent job. It would mean a need for mire nurseries and minimal financial input.
Im broke but I'd rather pay and know my child is safe, learning and happy.

VladmirsPoutine · 17/12/2022 19:10
  • Education should be 100% free at all levels for all subjects.
  • Landlords should be extremely curtailed.
  • The minimum wage should be enough to live a quality of life in which you aren't scrimping a penny here and a penny there to buy bread and milk.
Comedycook · 17/12/2022 19:11

All ltns to be scrapped and the roads to go back to normal

Nw22 · 17/12/2022 19:11

Rejoin the eu
punish cruelty to animals the same as violent crimes
Replace the nhs with a system like France or Germany

Scooopsahoy · 17/12/2022 19:11

The underlying issue to so many problem is income/wealth inequality, so policy should essentially focus on reducing inequality between people. This would help massively with health outcomes, education outcomes, mental health, housing etc.

WrongLife · 17/12/2022 19:15

Build a shit load of well designed, well insulated social housing such that everyone who needs it can have a house they can afford. Housing security has a significant ripple effect and would pay for itself.

heavily subside childcare - for the same reasons, eventually it pays for itself in getting people into employment.

BlandSoup · 17/12/2022 19:15

Using rental payments as proof of affordability for a mortgage would be great.

Sort our healthcare so it’s not totally fucked. Don’t know how tho.

Or alternatively the children’s actual parents could teach them life skills. How left field is that!

Ilikewinter · 17/12/2022 19:17

I agree the NHS needs a total overhall, but I doubt that any political party will dare touch it.

IaminRome · 17/12/2022 19:19

A link between the massive payouts and salaries and dividends of those at the top of big business, and the lowest paid workers who are the ones making them all the money. So they have to bring the lowest paid up if they want a bigger cut. And no loopholes!
Would stop the government subsiding big cats at the top and free our tax up for other things
