To tell you how proud I am of my Dad today

Today, my Dad stopped his lorry to pull a suicidal 22 year old over the safety barrier of a bridge and laid on him until police and ambulance arrived.

I saw him a few hours after and he was very shaky and emotional (my big lorry driving beer loving football mad Dad, emotional?!).

I had 2 suicide attempts about 6 years ago and I ended up in a psychiatric unit where he was my biggest supporter and drove the 100 mile round trip to be with me every single weekend then came to pick me up at discharge and had me live with him until I was back on my feet and had received the help I needed.

I'm so proud of him ♥️

Welldone to your lovely Dad. That was a kind thing to do x

Flamingogirl08 · 23/11/2022 21:17

Big well done to Dad. He saved a life today. Somebody's son, brother, friend. What a thing ❤️

FrodisCapering · 23/11/2022 21:17

You have a wonderful dad. It must be amazing to know he's always in your corner.

eosmum · 23/11/2022 21:18

What an amazing man. You should be very proud of him, and I hope he is proud of himself.

TikTokCat · 23/11/2022 21:19

As a parent of a suicidal teen, I say thank you on behalf of that person's family. The individual may not be immediately grateful, but it was a selfless act and you must be very proud.

Fluffygoon · 23/11/2022 21:19

That’s amazing- he could have carried on driving but didn’t. What a difference your lovely Dad’s made to another family.

elle6 · 23/11/2022 21:19

Thank you everyone!

@eosmum he is rather embarrassed as the company he works for have gifted him a £100 Amazon voucher and are calling him a hero. My Dad doesn't like being centre of attention 😂

Oh gosh. Your dad did a wonderful thing and I’m not surprised you’re proud. Amazing. But also poor him. I can imagine with the history you have shared just why he was so emotional. Hug him tight. Flowers

@TikTokCat I'm so sorry to hear this and I hope they get the help that I did, it saved my life. All the best to you and your family 🙏🏻♥️

Your Dad sounds lovely, OP. I’m glad that there are people like him in this world.

PinkiOcelot · 23/11/2022 21:26

That’s great. I’m not surprised you’re proud of him.

elle6 · 23/11/2022 21:27

I think me having his first grandchild next year must be turning him a little soft in his old age 🤗

@Fluffygoon one of the things that shocked him most was the people who must of seen and drove past. He got quite tearful at that. He kept saying how could you turn a blind eye to that.

I hope the man is getting help now 🙏🏻

This made me cry. Your dad is amazing x

SolitudeNotLoneliness · 23/11/2022 21:38

Your dad sounds awesome, and very humble.

What an amazing person. From the parent of a teen that has had wonky time, to know there are strangers that care is a huge comfort.

I worked with a chap who drove a hgv, and saw a girl on a mororway bridge. He came off at the next junction and turned round... Another lorry driver did too on the other side of the motorway, and the parked their lorries across the lanes under the bridge to stop there being a huge drop.

As the saying goes, not all heroes wear capes!
