Or am I just an old stick in the mud? It really gives me the creeps, are they actually comparing a tampon to a dick?

Ew.

Were they inspired by Charles and Camilla's "Tampaxgate"?

FartOutLoudDay · 22/11/2022 11:56

Some discussion about this over here:

it's funny it's not like it's a serious advert on the telly it's only on bloody twitter

What difference does that make?

DM stands for Direct Messages.

Why do you think they are comparing Tampons to male genitalia?

Do you understand the reference? It means you’re only messaging the girl but I’m in her vagina.

I don't think it's the real company. Anyone can buy a blue tick for an account after Elon's takeover. There's been several spoof accounts posting like this.

Cluelessdiyer · 22/11/2022 13:01

@lailamaria nothjng more hilarious than treating women and girls as objects to be fought over where penetration is the prize ammirite?

nothing funnier than sexualising as male fantasies the products that women and girls use to manage their bodily functions ammirite?

why won’t women and girls just chill out and accept that their bodies are there for men to compete about who gets to pentrate them?

its just a joke - who doesn’t find the objectification of the body of women and girls as objects to be pentrated for male gratification hilarious?

MrsHMarsh · 22/11/2022 13:06

@Cluelessdiyer Oh well, it’s only Twitter, you know a massive platform of millions. Confused

@JorisBonson I was wondering that but it is the official account.

God that's fucking gross.

Similar to the tampax ad with that Scarlett lady, someone talks about not inserting it right and she says something like 'right size, right up there'. Just makes me cringe. You shouldn't be just shoving it 'right up there', you should be listening to your body.

mumyes · 22/11/2022 13:17

The reality is that tampax is a DYING brand. No future. Still lots of plastic applicators etc. No handle on sustainability.

20 years ago I used them. Now it's a moon cup all the way.

TooHotToRamble · 22/11/2022 13:58

@MrsHMarsh "Do you understand the reference? It means you’re only messaging the girl but I’m in her vagina."

Eeewww gross. But why does it say "We are not the same"? Is that a reference to something someone has said?

MrsHMarsh · 22/11/2022 14:03

It’s sort of like bragging. Another version is You’re in her DMs, I’m in her bed. We’re not the same, etc etc

I don't understand the joke. It sounds creepy to me.
Who is "them" and who is it addressing?

Maybe the people it's addressing get the joke.....

I agree. This is not pleasant.

It sexualises an essential hygiene product in a disturbing way.

I'm betting the Tampax PR person who wrote that post is male.

"Them" = women, specifically the women that the reader (who is assumed to be male) is trying to chat up

It's saying "you might be messaging women, but we're in their vaginas".

TomTraubertsBlues · 22/11/2022 14:38

The "we are not the same" thing is a play on a common meme.

I still don't get why it's funny. Still seems sexist and creepy.

Maybe once we're far enough away from the bad old days where women were expected to accept this crass joke as just banter, it might work in an ironic way..... but we're nowhere near there yet.

100% agree. Sexist and creepy.

Like I said - I bet a man wrote it

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 22/11/2022 14:51

yuck

brands trying to be 'sassy' on social media is tedious.

MoltenLasagne · 22/11/2022 14:54

Why is Tampax as a company, aligning themselves with men competing to get "in" a woman's vagina?

First of all, you'd think as a brand theyd pitch themselves to women rather than talking to men. Secondly, really grim to be sexualising a hygiene product. Do men really think there's a sexual element to using tampons? Because gross.

This. Why the fuck are they advertising to men, in this case the type of men who wouldn't be caught dead buying Tampa's for their non-existent GF?
