Or am I just an old stick in the mud? It really gives me the creeps, are they actually comparing a tampon to a dick?

it's funny it's not like it's a serious advert on the telly it's only on bloody twitter

How is it funny? The statement is aimed at men, treating women as sexual objects. Actually, 12/13 year old girls too. It's disgusting and demeaning.

Re the "them" thing. In this instance it reads to me like men talking dismissively about women, rather than an attempt at so called gender neutral language.

That’s how I read it. Just adds a lovely bit of icing to the turd. 😒

And all the young teenage girls on there are nodding along with it to seem cool and non offensive, it’s all very ironic and backwards though. NORMALISE PERIODs errrr are we in the sixties, has this suddenly become a big issues about periods being not normal?

Grim.

Also at least (most) penises stay in and don’t shoot out at the gentlest sneeze

Theluggage15 · 22/11/2022 19:03

They even reply to some weirdo who asks them to make flavoured ones, they just say ‘no’ but why would you reply to that at all? And their tweet ‘ I woke up today and chose violence’ I know it’s just a saying for causing chaos but they just seem to give off such a creepy and aggressive vibe. Really unpleasant.

Runningslow · 22/11/2022 19:10

It’s grim, and obviously written by a man.
I’m curious who follows tampax though - can’t say it’d be on my list of companies to follow.

MrsHMarsh · 22/11/2022 19:29

@Theluggage15 I know, I was thinking that violence tweet was odd.

I swear society is regressing. Do you think girls are made to feel it's unclean and unhygienic by boys who get have a skewed (pornified) view of girls and women?

MrsHMarsh · 22/11/2022 19:30

@OmiOmy Me and my friends were just talking about this, it is backwards isn’t it. It’s possible it’s something like that.

Gross. Mooncups are the future. Tampons give you toxic shock.

MarmaladeFatkins · 22/11/2022 21:32

it's gross 💩

GettinHyggeWithIt · 22/11/2022 21:35

Someone in their social and comms team needs to be getting their arse kicked for that.

I don’t find it funny and think it’s both gross and distasteful.

I'm disappointed they didn't say "sliding in their DMs". MN would have imploded.

'Imploding' is so much better than 'hysterical'. I mean it's still telling women how to feel but it's a tad less misogynistic.

The “choosing violence” thing…… what’s that about?

Playing devils advocate I suppose one could take it that women should feel empowered and take no shit…..

Or…… hormone driven women are dangerous and irrational?

Seems very odd…..

Manderleyagain · 23/11/2022 15:08

It's plural language, not gender-neutral.

Yes, whatever, my point was that the language choice hides quite how creepy it is, as well as making it less easy to understand, as the person I replied to said.

CactusFlowers · 23/11/2022 15:09

That’s grim.

QuicheandMustard · 23/11/2022 15:15

It's an awful tweet! But to help explain it's based on a meme which started in 2019.

ILikeToSleepALot · 23/11/2022 15:45

So strange that a company whose product is targeted at a 100% female customer base chooses to do these "boys will be boys" meme jokes. Apart from being sexist/in poor taste it's also quite poor as actual marketing. You should be talking to your customer and cater to them, not joke about "them" with other market groups.
