It’s a variation on a widely used phrase/meme. I think it’s quite funny. There certainly isn’t any deeper/sinister meaning behind it

Sexualising a hygiene product is a bit sinister.

SD1978 · 22/11/2022 03:21

I read it as a consent thing? Although badly written. You're choosing to 'insert' your way into women's messages, but women are choosing to 'insert' Tampax in their vagina- it's a weird and creepy message.

MrsDigbyChickenCaeser · 22/11/2022 03:24

Yeah and all the ‘get over it butch’ messages are lovely underneath comparing it to a viagra ad, how is a tampon the same as a Sec aid?

MrsDigbyChickenCaeser · 22/11/2022 03:24

*bitch and sex sorry a bit blurry eyed as can’t sleep.

Cluelessdiyer · 22/11/2022 04:04

Yep it means what you think op

it is absolutely repulsive

it is a corporate period brand joking that tampons mean that it i superior to men because it is physically inside women and not those men. As if it has managed to manipulate a woman into it and “scored” a sexual victory that the men have not

it is based on the premises that womens bodies are a sexual prize to be fought over by men for whom the actual woman as an embodied person js irrelevant

it is repulsive and confirms how much of social media is soaked in repulsive misogyny

You’ve put it much better than me, exactly this.

I thought it was a bit crass but thought people were being a bit OTT finding it offensive. Then I read this and... yep... you're right.

The pronoun thing is a reach though. Their/them is correct.

inappropriateraspberry · 22/11/2022 06:34

It's weird. Surely the majority of people following Tampax are women? It would have read better as 'He's sliding into your DMs, but we're sliding into you! 😆' A more inclusive joke for women not about them.
They didn't read the room and it takes far too much thinking to understand in the first place.

Appletreefarmyard · 22/11/2022 06:35

The whole thing is vile, on so many levels.

The 'we' get to be inside women and you don't element reflect males playing out oneupmanship based on accessing women's vaginas.

For me, It conjures up images of smugness as they have conquered territory that others have failed to access. I doubt any women, anywhere in the world, inserting a Tampax, would feel good that this act is affording someone a sense of superiority. This feels violating.

MrsJamin · 22/11/2022 06:53

Well I'm glad I use reusable period pants as I'd never buy from Tampax again after that. Corporately, if they are ok about joking about this, this is their culture and you'd be buying into this idea if you bought Tampax. Disgusting. Seriously when are adults going to start working in social media Marketing? Is it just for children nowadays?

Whatwouldscullydo · 22/11/2022 08:01

Oh god thats disgusting.

Is there no product now that hasn't become captured and patronising and misogynistic. I guess that happens when you know there's no choice . Women have to buy something. Doesn't matter if it becomes impossible to find a brand because our own bodies force us to use them.

Fuck off

MrsDigbyChickenCaeser · 22/11/2022 08:57

The other thing that’s unreal are the comments - ‘get over it’ etc saying this breaks misogyny, do you think that they understand it?

actualnamechange · 22/11/2022 09:08

What is the phrase/meme?

Changemaname1 · 22/11/2022 09:14

There was a bit of a trend on Tik tok etc of saying - you’re in his / her DMs I’m laid in his / her bed we are not the same type thing

people expanded the trend to make it more “funny” and posted stuff like your in his DMs I’m on his blocked list we are not the same etc stuff like

it was all very childish as tik tok often is and I’m surprised at tampax

tribpot · 22/11/2022 09:16

So I had never heard of this but the 'we are not the same' meme is an actual thing. It's appeared several times over the last few years, some of them are quite funny. This Tampax one is not, it's just stupid.

MrsDigbyChickenCaeser · 22/11/2022 09:30

Uggh it’s even worse with the context of that meme!

All the bleating about outing misogyny underneath whilst laughing at literally having a corporate dick in you. Yeah fucking hilarious!

MrsDigbyChickenCaeser · 22/11/2022 09:34

Any tweets saying it’s inappropriate get met with ‘go back to the kitchen terr’ oh the irony!

MrsDigbyChickenCaeser · 22/11/2022 09:34

*terf

Bizarre response from those people because the tweet has nothing to do with trans people at all! Ugh, the world’s gone mad(der).

I know, I couldn’t sleep last night so I scrolled through a lot of the replies, very quickly descended into ‘terf bitches’ with no sense of humour. I feel sorry for the young girls on that thread/s. They don’t seem to realise the joke is on them.

Spidey66 · 22/11/2022 11:14

Sorry, I'm thick, I don't understand it at all. What does DM mean?

tribpot · 22/11/2022 11:21

DM is a private (aka direct) message @Spidey66 - this is what they're called on Twitter and Insta. In the meme, the writer is comparing themselves to a mythical second person who fancies a mythical third person. The mythical second person is 'in in the third person's DMs', i.e. is communicating privately with them, probably flirting. The writer is doing something else, usually self-deprecating or funny (apparently like being shoved up a fanjo if you're a tampon) which demonstrates that the writer and the mythical third person have a closer relationship than the mythical second person and the mythical third person. That's why the writer and the mythical second person are not the same.

It doesn't sound any better when you explain the meme, does it?!

MrsDigbyChickenCaeser · 22/11/2022 11:42

They are basically saying ‘you are only messaging her’ but hey ‘I’m in her!’ So I win!

Confused
MrsDigbyChickenCaeser · 22/11/2022 11:42

Sorry lagging and cross posted.

RambamThankyouMam · 22/11/2022 12:20
