Or am I just an old stick in the mud? It really gives me the creeps, are they actually comparing a tampon to a dick?

Not only that, but they seem all gleeful about it replying to users on there. Weird.

Also, how annoying that they refer to the tampon user as them/their.
It actually stopped me from understanding what the slogan meant, at first. Wrong pronouns l^^iterally obscuring the meaning.

Dontaskdontget · 22/11/2022 15:17

Nothing about this makes me wanna buy tampax 🤢

What sort of weirdo finds this funny? Oh yeah. Men. Why is tampax targeting tampon adverts at men?!

MistressoftheDarkSide · 22/11/2022 15:30

Call me old fashioned but I’ve always found sanitary protection adverts rage inducing. These companies have a captive audience of roughly 50% of the population for what - 30 to 40 years potentially and while I’m not the type who thinks periods should be hidden out of embarrassment I’d be far more attracted to advertising that emphasises security, comfort and perhaps offered a voucher for a large bar of chocolate on purchase. Or discounted painkillers. Or a hot water bottle.

I mean, the implication we should all be sky diving and roller blading dressed entirely in white was bad enough - but this is pretty damn dehumanising actually. An entire corporation gloating about its intimate invasion of the female body. Ugh.

Softplayhooray · 22/11/2022 15:35

They/their, a meme reference, a weird tagline...is this actually Tampax or some weirdo on the new crap version of Twitter pretending to be Tampax?

Either way I feel old and am unlikely to ever buy Tampax again. I have no idea what's even going on here.

Anyway just for the they/their I will now avoid them completely. Presumably this gross and weird ad came from them only having blokes in charge of their ads?

MrsHMarsh · 22/11/2022 15:37

I prefer the white jeans and rollerblades to them implying they’ve won a goal over the men that might be messaging me.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 22/11/2022 15:40

Well yes, agreed, the latter is indeed far worse.

Cluelessdiyer · 22/11/2022 15:41

The notion that any woman sees tampons as in any way sexual is mind boggling and beyond misogynistic and offensive

but then again what a woman might think about all is of absolutely no relevance at all is it

TooScaredToPostOnMN · 22/11/2022 15:53

I took it immediately to be as if the Tampax was speaking to the P*IS - meaning like "you are in her dm's" because men send unsolicited pics of these things... where then they say "we are in them" to be very one upmanship and gross. Whole thing is yuk.

frozengoose · 22/11/2022 16:55

I think it is crass school boy humor, totally unsuitable for the period products when I think about buying my period products.

It is downright creepy when I think of buying tampons for my teen dd.

HelloBunny · 22/11/2022 17:00

I just want to get on with my bleeding. Nothing to do with men / being sexy. Or white jeans.

Thanks, Tampax.

Glycerinstrawberry · 22/11/2022 17:14

And they're just ignoring the fact that tampons are not just used by women, but young girls too.

Knackeredmommy · 22/11/2022 17:19

Now that Elon Musk has opened up blue ticks to anyone, you can't be sure it's the actual company

Yeah that will get confusing, it is their official account though.

I'm disappointed they didn't say "sliding in their DMs". MN would have imploded.

MrsHMarsh · 22/11/2022 17:47

@BadNomad Nobody imploding here.

I am so disgusted by this. It is the real account. 'Always' twitter account entered into the bantz too. It's obvious to me the twitter accounts are run by young men.

"Also, how annoying that they refer to the tampon user as them/their.

I don't know anything about the meme but the gender neutral language obfuscares enough to make it possible to post - they couldn't possibly have done it with clear language. Compare:

"You're in her DMs. But we're in her." Too blatant.

For that company to address a tweet to creepy men is creepy.

I don't buy them for myself but I do get them for my teenage daughter. I will look at alternatives.

FluffySocks0 · 22/11/2022 17:59

YANBU - It's sexist and inappropriate. Why are they making tampon adverts that are aimed at men?

It's plural language, not gender-neutral. Unless you're thinking one woman has multiple ("we're") tampons in her?? 😦

lailamaria · 22/11/2022 12:32

it's funny it's not like it's a serious advert on the telly it's only on bloody twitter

You realise children use those products?

MrsHMarsh · 22/11/2022 18:21

@BadNomad Are you sticking up for this ‘ad’? Not having a go just confused.

No. Making comments about "gender-neutral" language turns it into a trans thing, which takes it away from being about women.

DMDCAGM · 22/11/2022 18:31

Ugh, this is revolting of them. I'm too ancient to bother switching to mooncups/ period pants, but young enough to still need to buy sanitary products. Tampax can ftfo - I'll stick with Sainsbury's own, thanks.

DMDCAGM · 22/11/2022 18:35

Re the "them" thing. In this instance it reads to me like men talking dismissively about women, rather than an attempt at so called gender neutral language.

NoTimeforManiacs · 22/11/2022 18:40

It’s gross because it’s clearly sexualising tampons. Imagine a gyno saying this with a wink as he examines your cervix.
