DH says this is gross

Snipped open the plastic on a pizza with kitchen scissors. Then used same scissors to cut the pizza into slices. DH actually said this was “vile and unsanitary” as the plastic could have been exposed to anything.

I’ll admit that for things like this I’m on the more disgusting end of the spectrum and he’s on the more disgusted but I honestly thought this was uncontroversial?

Oh give over. If I offer to make someone a boiled egg and they say they prefer soft or hard to my medium preference I don't start telling them their comfort pertaining to egg hardness is their responsibility. If I'm cooking for them I imagine I like them enough to care how they like their food. It's not controlling to have food preferences whether that be clean utensils, boiled eggs or brands.

And I don't know why you've said 'makes', I didn't.

He didn’t express the preference before she chopped the pizza though. He complained afterwards. So she didn’t know it would make him uncomfortable until after the event. She wasn’t deliberate trying to make him feel uncomfortable, she didn’t know he’d have an issue with it.

And?

My issue is with all the people mocking him for having this preference.

Weird, because you’ve repeatedly said the issue is with the OP not making her partner feel comfortable by washing the scissors and chopping board according to his preferences.

Sure

1st post the vast majority of people can't wrap their heads around cross contamination and mock the people that do

3rd post Here's the mocking I was talking about. Just because you can’t understand how easy it is doesn't mean you have to take the piss out of people that can understand it.

4th? Post Yes, I made my post after reading loads of posts slagging off people that understand cross contamination, and made my reply after I was personally mocked.

Lost count now post And not only is everyone more than chuffed that someone was grossed out by the way the food was prepared they want to mock the person to boot.

WaddleAway · 11/11/2022 21:48

Oh lord, I was about to go through and find an equal number of posts where you’ve said that the issue is with the OP not making her partner feel comfortable by washing the scissors and chopping board, but I realised I don’t care that much. Have a nice evening.

Scissors after all are just two knives cutting at the same time. To all the people saying they can't imagine cutting a pizza with scissors - maybe just give it a go?

Agnes2507 · 11/11/2022 22:03

I've been cutting pizza with my scissors for years - it's way easier than a pizza cutter. Never looked back!

No, the thought is too weird, I'd be trailing my hand down inside the pizza cut and probably knocking stuff off, lifting it up, taking longer...I really don't like the idea. My cutter works brilliantly and I'm very happy with it.

I honestly can’t picture what you’re picturing. All of us cutting our pizza with scissors for years, decades, and not trailing our hands or lifting it or taking longer than a pizza cutter… do you have extraordinarily tiny hands, pizzas the size of Naples ones, or are you thinking of little stationery scissors or nail scissors?

stuntbubbles · 12/11/2022 00:05

Anyway, truth bomb: pizza cutters are nouveau. Like ice-cream scoops.

I went to a restaurant that served the French Onion Soup with a little pair of scissors to cut the cheese. I thought it was brilliant!

disneydatknee · 12/11/2022 00:57

I had an ex that told me off for putting the shopping away and then slicing an onion for dinner without first washing my hands because I'd touched things in the supermarket. Sorry, what? This was way before the pandemic. This is neurotic and stupid.

JennyNotFromTheBlock · 12/11/2022 03:28

Do you not have a pizza serving tray and that's how people use the pizza cutter? Surely if not then you must have some extra large plate that you transfer the pizza to, cut it up, then dole it out? Your reason for not using a proper pizza cutter doesn't make any sense.

Herejustforthisone · 12/11/2022 07:50

OhmygodDont · 11/11/2022 18:26

I feel also like scissors will be wonky slices. I can’t deal with that.

How do some people on here get through life? Honestly.

MavisChunch29 · 12/11/2022 07:54

How do you not burn your hands cutting pizza with scissors though? Surely you are much closer to the molten cheese than when using a pizza cutter or knife?

I'd agree with your ex. Always wash your hands before food preparation regardless of what you've been doing first. It's not germ-phobic, just sensible.

ReneBumsWombats · 12/11/2022 07:57

WhyOY · 11/11/2022 20:46

I can't apply enough pressure with a pizza cutter

Your pizza might be overcooked!

But obviously if you have some sort of condition that makes using a cutter difficult, I can see why you'd need an alternative. It just seems such a weird thing to do as standard though!

Obviously it's working for lots of people, but I'm not sold at all. Cutter all the way for me.

MavisChunch29 · 12/11/2022 08:01

Wait, the OP is cutting pizza before it's cooked? Sorry, I can't get past that, so utterly wrong.

CornishGem1975 · 12/11/2022 08:03

The only way to cut pizza is with scissors. It's pretty normal in Italy.

But after it's cooked obviously...

And no I don't wash them before.

I use scissors because it is easier and works better. Pizza cutters look cooler, but they are less effective.

stuntbubbles · 12/11/2022 09:01

Scissors: originated AD 100.
Pizza: first recorded in the 10th century.
Pizza cutter: 1892.

#TeamScissors are the world majority, I reckon.

I really enjoy thorough posters, like this.

Up yours, scissor snobs.

And those of you who wash things that have been in your drawer before using them? I don’t even know what to say. Just make sure you have a good hand cream, or you’ll have the hands of a wizened old crone.

DelilahsHaven · 12/11/2022 09:05

I always cut pizza with scissors. If it's good enough for I Can Cook Katie's, it's good enough for me 🍕
