DH says this is gross

Bownus · 11/11/2022 17:27

Snipped open the plastic on a pizza with kitchen scissors. Then used same scissors to cut the pizza into slices. DH actually said this was “vile and unsanitary” as the plastic could have been exposed to anything.

I’ll admit that for things like this I’m on the more disgusting end of the spectrum and he’s on the more disgusted but I honestly thought this was uncontroversial?

OP posts:
AutumnCrow · 11/11/2022 20:11

People who cut pizza with scissors are disturbed.

Oh hell yes

CantFindTheBeat · 11/11/2022 20:11

Ideal.

We have a pizza wheel and also sometimes use scissors.

We also pick up food from the floor. 30 second rule lives on!

Very health and hardy in this house.

Does he through caution to the wind in other areas, OP?

Do you wash your shopping before you put it away then?

Anti bac wipe, yes.

And do you wash your hands then never touch anything before you eat?

Yes, if I'm eating with my hands. Not so bothered if I'm using cutlery.

How do you manage with a sandwich from Tesco?

I usually have a wrap or a sub and hold it by the packet as best I can. I usually have anti bac wipes with me when I'm out.

Don't even start on the packet of crisps - do you eat them without touching the bag?

I'm not that much of a crisp person tbh. I can eat them holding the packet too though. It's not hard for me.

Here's the mocking I was talking about. Just because you can’t understand how easy it is doesn't mean you have to take the piss out of people that can understand it. Just because you see a sandwich in tesco and can't fathom a way of getting it into your mouth without grabbing it with unwashed hands doesn't make you better than me. A crow could probably work it out.

Oh come on… you’re allowed to judge people for being ‘unwashed’, for ‘grabbing’ food and for being less intelligent than a crow, apparently, but people aren’t allowed to judge you for being over zealous with cleanliness? And as to the ‘I’m glad I’m single’ thing, luckily DH and I have absolutely no issue with each other’s food hygiene standards so it’s a perfectly happy marriage.

Yes, I made my post after reading loads of posts slagging off people that understand cross contamination, and made my reply after I was personally mocked. I don't go around pointing at people eating tesco sandwiches with their hands and shout unclean at them. I don't say anything when my friends do it and they don't say anything when they see me not do it. I do, however, have no shame in making my feelings clear on a thread like this.

I’m so sorry, sounds hellish but you’re terribly brave to admit this on here. Good luck. 💪🏻

Two less what’s out there? I haven’t yet mentioned on this thread whether I think the OP is BU or not, so you have no idea where we both fall on the hygiene scale.

littlepeas · 11/11/2022 20:23

You will probably say you are healthy and robust @WrongWayApricot but the people I know who think like you are constantly ill. We're not supposed to live in a sterile environment.

RosyappleA · 11/11/2022 20:23

Our pizza cutter is useless so I use knives. I must be old fashioned and very strange according to this thread. Never used scissors. They don’t stay in my cutlery drawer so aren't washed as often. They are in a drawer with other useful bits.

Watchkeys · 11/11/2022 20:24

Nothing about it bothers me hygiene-wise but...scissors?

Pizza cutters exist for a reason!

What reason? Why are they better than scissors, assuming the scissors are appropriately cleaned?

I agree. Some people just have different ways of doing things. My thing is chicken scissors and not touching it. I even wear plastic glove.s

WhyOY · 11/11/2022 20:25

Pizza cutters aren't great when my hands aren't good. Scissors much better

I'm not in a sterile environment, I'm surrounded by people like the majority on this thread. OP's husband isn't asking for much, a properly cut pizza with a clean utensil. But washing a pair of scissors or a chopping board is just too kooky and sterile, that would take all of a minute! 🥴

Watchkeys · 11/11/2022 20:24

Because you just slip the pizza off the tray/stone on to a board and cut it flat, without having to lift it, slip toppings and cheese around, handle it more than you need to, make it more complicated. It's...what it's for.

Scissors to cut pizza! I am still amazed. Clearly it's a thing, but I've never heard of it.

Notmyyearthisyear · 11/11/2022 20:32

This 😂

You don’t have to do any of those things with scissors either.

I've reached the grand old age of 52 and had no idea people did this 😅

How do you cut pizza with scissors without lifting any part of it up at any point?

ReneBumsWombats · 11/11/2022 20:34

Slide scissors under and chop

WrongWayApricot · 11/11/2022 20:36

littlepeas · 11/11/2022 20:29

The point is, it's not a hard task to make the person you are serving food to comfortable. Nothing will probably happen but I don't see why it's funny to make someone have an uncomfortable meal when it was so easy to make it pleasant. And not only is everyone more than chuffed that someone was grossed out by the way the food was prepared they want to mock the person to boot.

SenecaFallsRedux · 11/11/2022 20:37

cosypeppermint · 11/11/2022 17:33

He’s being weird.

Not sure about wrecking scissors by using them to cut pizza though? Get a pizza cutter!

I use scissors to cut pizza. I think it's easier than a pizza cutter. I don't use them for other things though, well mostly I don't.

I didn't see you talking about mocking, but I was not mocking you. I promise you that that behaviour is not going to stop germs, and that's fine btw.

So do you open all the packaging for your lunch, then go and wash your hands, then come back and eat without touching anything? I am just interested. I wash my hands before eating, thanks, but most people don't do what I've just described before eating their meal deal. So in health terms, there is no need. There clearly is a need for you personally. That's fine but there's no need to call ne a crow.

WaddleAway · 11/11/2022 20:43

The OP didn’t know it made her partner uncomfortable until after she’d done it. She wasn’t deliberately trying to antagonise him. I’d see your point if she then went on to do it every time, just to wind him up, but there’s no evidence that that will be the case. She did it without knowing he thought it was gross, he told her it was ‘vile’ and she came hear to ask whether people agreed with him.

MrsThimbles · 11/11/2022 20:43

Im sincerely hoping that this is the worst thing he ever has to be bothered about.

ReneBumsWombats · 11/11/2022 20:44

WhyOY · 11/11/2022 20:35

Slide scissors under and chop

That lifts it up! And you have to move your hand along inside the cut, just more hassle and potential lifting.

Can't see how it's better than just placing a wheel on it and rolling.

I'm glad this works for so many of you but you're not selling it to me at all. Sticking to my pizza cutter.
