AIBU to think that people who put Christmas decorations up super early are just attention seekers?

My neighbour has had her house decorated fully for Christmas now for almost two weeks- they started going up on Oct 31st. Fully lit tree in the window, outdoor lights, Christmas wreath on the door- the works.

She’s done this since she moved next door to me five years ago and I assume she did it before that too.

Since I’ve known her, she’s also posted on Insta and her WhatsApp status each year on either Christmas Day or the 26th to show her decorations coming down and a general “I can’t spend another minute looking at them” message.

If she put them up at Christmas and not at Halloween, she wouldn’t be looking at them for all that long.

She’s one of these “I’m daft me” types.

I know there are some exceptions where decorations are put up for different reasons like someone with a terminal illness, a family celebrating early before someone emigrates etc. but those are rare so I’m not factoring then into my thoughts around this.

Am I being unreasonable for thinking that someone who put Christmas decorations up at the end of Oct/early Nov is attention-seeking?

Why judge people for throwing insults and denigration about fricking decorations and making spurious accusations of abuse when countered?

Because it's the Christmas spirit, obviously. Fa la la la la la la la la.

No ones accused you of abuse 😂

You clearly have some sort of axe to grind over Christmas decor. Your increasingly unhinged posts are rather funny actually. Enjoy the "last word", boo.

I was accused of harassment, which is a form of abuse. I invited the accuser to report the posts and she immediately backpedalled. Of course.

I hate to remind you of the existence of doors that swing both ways, but anyone who is on this thread has something to say about early Christmas decorations. It's just that some people want to hurl ridiculous moralistic criticism as if lights in November is a mark of one's character, and some people want counter that because it's arrant self-serving nonsense.

I will very much enjoy the last word, thank you. It's the advantage of engaging with people who somehow have Internet discussions while being above Internet discussions...

Indeed, and I'm sure you have much more exciting things to do with yours than continue to be bored with me!

Lol 😝 Probably not I’m mega bored.

Hope you have a good Xmas though, I know it’s not great for everyone. I personally love all the lights and decks, but I can’t stand Xmas day as it’s one long stress for me.

take care .

"I think that people that judge others are really quite sad in their own lives and id even suggest they are a little jealous about other peoples ability to buck the social rules that they themselves feel obliged to follow."

Totally agree with what a PP said 👆

I haven't put up my decos yet (but will towards the end of Nov) but enjoy seeing the brightly lit houses that do have them up.
I agree though that not the best, environmentally. But I don't presume to be better and look down my nose at them.

I wish more people would just live and let live. The world would be a happier (and far less angry) place.

You must be supremely bored if you're choosing to be on here making yawning emojis at me (so cutting! So original! So devastating!). At least the rest of us are having a discussion.

If the day is one long stress for you, I suggest you make changes. For starters, don't check out when the neighbours switch their lights on. Some people can't handle it.

You seem incredibly angry and I don’t understand your attack on me? I’m not irritated at all, I was just expressing my opinion that there’s more important things to get annoyed over. That isn’t telling people what they can and can’t be upset over.

Goodness this is all getting heated.

If people with no good reason eg a terminally ill family member, want to throw their flashing lights and blow up reindeers in everyone's face long before Christmas and turn this ancient and beautiful festival into a tacky carnival there's no law against it.

There is also no law against the rest of us thinking you are annoying/silly/materialistic.

Nobody is accusing you of breaking the law.

But if you're going to make ridiculous moral judgements about something with no moral value whatsoever, you can expect to be countered.

The discussion is not whether or not we're allowed to have the discussion.

Do you think the Grinch put his decorations up ridiculously early? Best way to ruin Christmas while accusing everyone else of being fun sponges.

WeAreAllSpecksOnARock · 13/11/2022 21:14

WTAF??
Just when you think you’ve seen it all on the Internet!
Merry Christmas everyone. 😂

Are people attacking you for not putting up your decorations early?

I'm amazed that you';re wittering about people being offended when not one person said they were. Annoyed is not offended, pissed off is not offended.

Exactly.
