DH recommends me a hair salon

Very weirdly DH texted me on Weds eve with the details of a hairdresser in a salon in Marylebone. It was 10:45 pm and he was out with work clients/on his way home, I'm not sure which. He's never done that before.

I send him a "?" to which he didn't reply.

Asked him about it again today, and he said - oh yes, I saw someone with a really nice haircut and asked her where she got it done and she told me so I sent it to you.
I asked him who this person was - apparently a random lady on the train platform in London. Quizzed on her age - "about your age".

AIBU to feel a bit pissed off he is asking random women for their hairdresser? He claims it was "for me". We don't live in London, but I do go there for haircuts. He knows I'm trying to find a local hairdresser who is good, but why would this make him ask a random on a London train platform.

So you are looking for a hairdresser, normally go to London for your hair and he sees someone with good hair (in his opinion) and finds out their hairdresser so he can recommend them to you. I don’t see the issue? If anything it seems quite thoughtful.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 05/11/2022 12:12

I think that’s quite sweet.

Keyansier · 05/11/2022 12:13

You sound absolutely ridiculous.

And I very much doubt that he walked up to a random woman and said "excuse me, where did you get your hair done"? It is far more likely they were in general conversation, she mentioned she'd been to the hairdressers, he said it looked nice and asked her where she had it done.

I agree I'm afraid OP, it's not like he booked you an appointment and frogmarched you there! The woman might have thought he was a bit bonkers but it's sort of sweet that he doesn't mind looking bonkers if it helps you out Grin

No, it was at London Bridge station. she was apparently waiting for the train in front of him and he randomly said 'excuse me, where do you get your hair done?'

It was 10:45pm, I'm sure she thought he was hitting on her

I feel I am missing something.

You are looking for a hairdresser. One of the best ways to find a good one is to have it recommended by someone whose hair you like.

or is the problem that he dated to speak to a random woman? is that really a problem?

PeekAtYou · 05/11/2022 12:18

Was he drunk?

Ekátn · 05/11/2022 12:18

i assume this is some sort of weird joke.

Why would you think she thought this?

and why would it matter if she did think it? He wasn’t so, where’s the issue?

CanYouFeelMyHeart · 05/11/2022 12:18

That's quite sweet. It's not like he saw a woman with decent hair and started humping her like a dog! He saw her and immediately thought of you.

nonstoprenovation · 05/11/2022 12:19

That was very thoughtful of him, what's your issue? That he spoke to woman? That he thought he was helping you? That he complimented another woman?

I'd love my DH to be so proactive and helpful.

thirstyformore · 05/11/2022 12:19

Yabu

Snugglemonkey · 05/11/2022 12:19

Don't be weird op. You are looking for a hairdresser, he did smth for you. You are turning it into what?

PandaOrLion · 05/11/2022 12:20

I’d be really touched if DH did this to me, I’d think it was kind.

lottiegarbanzo · 05/11/2022 12:23

That's quite funny and sweet - so long as was polite to the woman and didn't come across like some weird, drunk leering bloke. As a straightforward 'great haircut! where do you get it cut?' question, why not?

illtellyouwhatiwantwhatireallyreallywant · 05/11/2022 12:28

That's really sweet!

CanYouFeelMyHeart · 05/11/2022 12:28

I asked a guy at work where he got his jeans, because he and DH are similar builds and DH was struggling to find jeans that were a good fit.

I assume DH doesn't think I was subtly trying to shag him by asking but you never know!

SabiRiver · 05/11/2022 12:29

Well I agree with the op, I think it is an odd thing for a man to do.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 05/11/2022 12:31

I suppose it also depends on her hair.

OP might rock up there and find it’s a salon exclusively for punks.

Or poodles.

TheMoops · 05/11/2022 12:34

It sounds one the sort of thing my DH would do.
I find it thoughtful

changer121 · 05/11/2022 12:36

I think it's thoughtful of him !
You sound very bizarre op.
My husband would do this and he definitely wouldn't be hitting on someone, just thinking of what I'd said and being helpful.
Poor bloke can't win and definitely won't bother again I would imagine.

So what? He wasn’t.

DietCokeDelight · 05/11/2022 12:38

Until you said you were looking for a hairdresser, I thought this was a bit odd or perhaps he was trying to give you a hint to change your hair. But as you are looking for one, it's sweet.

Notonthestairs · 05/11/2022 12:40

However weird you think your husband was I just couldn't find the energy to be pissed off about this.

It's a recommendation for a hairdresser. You don't have to use it.

And given London Bridge station is one of the busiest stations in London she's not going to search your husband out to check.

virginpinkmartini · 05/11/2022 12:41

It's hard to gauge whether it's weird, because we don't know him. It would be really strange for me if my partner did that, it would just be really out of character because he's very shy. I know other people who it would be completely normal behaviour.
As long as you know it wasn't anything nefarious, like say, you thought the message was meant for someone else/ meet up place, then I would just chalk it down to him trying to do a good thing and move on.
