My fantasy - and I can't actually see why we couldn't do this .....

Group of us me be somewhere remote . Farm our own veg , keep hens and cows - eat our own eggs and milk , live a good life without killing anything, build yurts , teach our kids the really important things in life - nature , kindness, spelling and basic maths and science , share with our friends and neighbours and embrace our kids with differences as well as our nt kids - basically start a bloody hippy commune where we do t have to worry about our kids being bullied or our gas bills .

Anyone with me ? I'd go tomorrow. Had enough of politics and idiots . I just want to live a good life , love my animals , nurture my friends and cook and share.
Fancy the highlands of Scotland or somewhere equally off grid . We could club together. Fuck off . Forget liz fucking truss and that whole shit show and just live . Love our dogs and our cats and our cows and our hens , look after each other , raise kids as a village , live a bloody amazing life.

Sign up . I'd seriously do this if we had enough interest, people , and yurts !

I've always fancied the idea of a kibbutz I have to say.

CuriousEats · 20/10/2022 01:00

My ideal dream. Not sure if I could go vege though!

LifeSucksBigTime · 20/10/2022 01:00

Sounds great if you find the right people, but being stuck in the middle of nowhere with dickheads it would be a nightmare. I say this as someone with a number of friends who have lived in ‘hippy communes’ and from their tales it doesn’t sound all it’s cracked up to be. Every society has to have rules, even micro societies…

CuriousEats · 20/10/2022 01:01

Bagsy me do the gardening! 😂

Scottishskifun · 20/10/2022 01:03

I suggest you visit the Highlands or the Islands in the middle of winter first and also see the reality of growing your own food in freezing temps or crazy winds with storms which regularly can strip polytunnels and would probably do similar to a yurt! Not to mention darkness from 3pm or if a very cloudy day barely any light!

NewBootsAndRanty · 20/10/2022 01:03

If you're going for food self sufficiency, you're going to need at least 4000 square feet of land per person, on a vegetarian diet...

stillvicarinatutu · 20/10/2022 01:03

Yeah me too Cept I'm 50 and probably too old for Isreal.

I fancy somewhere wild . We can build fires and cook big communal pots of chilli and keep goats and angora bunnies and clip them nicely and knit ourselves big angora jumpers and cuddle the bunnies and Just fucking live ! Yurts can be quite nice . Little wood burner , little kitchen , big communal house with big kitchen where we can cook for whole community.

God it sounds bliss - how hard can it be ?

Ok seriously then

Where would this work .

I want to float this as an idea .

OP posts:
NewBootsAndRanty · 20/10/2022 01:06

Go visit Tinkers Bubble mid winter and then see how you feel.

stillvicarinatutu · 20/10/2022 01:06

We can order a Tesco delivery 😂

If it's not up a mountain.
I've started cooking communal dinners already and it works .

So maybe not completely self sufficient- something in between?

God no. Sounds cold, tasteless, dull and as boring as hell.

HighlandPony · 20/10/2022 01:07

Have you done any of this before? In my vast agricultural experience spanning almost four decades over meat dairy and arable time I’ve sen many folk choir this thinking it’s the answer to their shit city lives but it’s not. It is mine yes and I do like it, I discourage my kids from uni and further education so they can continue our family traditions and continue our blood in the village but it’s not suited to most folk and especially not suited to 99% of big town and city dwellers

stillvicarinatutu · 20/10/2022 01:08

Purple ! No one would make you coMe love

I'm asking if anyone else has ever fancied doing this or similar. It's not compulsory

I wanted to do this when I had an autistic teen .

He's flown the nest now . I just fancy something away fro
The madding crowd .

I'd come, but on a nice day in May when the sun is shining. Currently in the Scottish Highlands and grateful for all things that make my life comfortable, and ambient.

stillvicarinatutu · 20/10/2022 01:14

Well I say we find something where deliveries are possible .

And act like a huge family . Take it in turns to cook , teach , garden , look after hens and cows .

Maybe I just need to buy a tent and fuck off 😀

Will your kids go to school? If not, how will you ensure you adequately home-school them without things like the internet?

I don't blame you for thinking this way though. When Covid vaccine passports were floated as an idea, I was petrified and looked into off-grid living.

stillvicarinatutu · 20/10/2022 01:15

I don't mind snow if I do t have to drive .

I don't mind cold if I have a fire . A
Duvet . And a dog !

As stated my kids are adults

But I remember more value at school in the nature table and learning about life - through play initially- we'd need teachers obviously. Bit teachers who could adapt to kids who don't learn in classes ? And those who do ?

I recommend having an Internet and TV detox. Go on, do it for a month. There will be no liz truss that way, and it is really easy to achieve and you don't have to forage and get water from a stream and poop in a hole.

Some of my best weeks lately have been when I'm so busy at work, then toddler in the evening, eat dinner late, and DH days god the government is a shit show isn't it? And I say... what's happened now? I realise how happy and content I feel not to know what's going on. It is achievable in a modern convenient life if you are disciplined. Take up a hobby like knitting, learn an instrument, read audiobooks, play an online game. Life is great.

(I am following snippets of liz truss at the moment because I am not very stressed, but will switch it all off when I notice I'm frowning in my sleep again)

stillvicarinatutu · 20/10/2022 01:20

Okay I'm clearly pissed.

But I love this an an idea . Just take off - live a self sufficient life , somewhere natural , maybe not totally totally isolated, but something where you could choose to be alone if wanted - somewhere with capacity to get shopping delivered, but do things my own way too .

NewBootsAndRanty · 20/10/2022 01:22

Sounds like you're a candidate for diggers and dreamers.

stillvicarinatutu · 20/10/2022 01:22

I have a few years to retirement. Maybe this is what I'll do alone .

Camper van . Bugger off with my dog .

OP posts:
stillvicarinatutu · 20/10/2022 01:24

I often joked about doing this when my son was at school due to the bullying.

But I could actually do it . Alone . Spend my pension on a camper van and just fuck off with my little dog .
I think I will .
