My fantasy - and I can't actually see why we couldn't do this .....

Group of us me be somewhere remote . Farm our own veg , keep hens and cows - eat our own eggs and milk , live a good life without killing anything, build yurts , teach our kids the really important things in life - nature , kindness, spelling and basic maths and science , share with our friends and neighbours and embrace our kids with differences as well as our nt kids - basically start a bloody hippy commune where we do t have to worry about our kids being bullied or our gas bills .

Anyone with me ? I'd go tomorrow. Had enough of politics and idiots . I just want to live a good life , love my animals , nurture my friends and cook and share.
Fancy the highlands of Scotland or somewhere equally off grid . We could club together. Fuck off . Forget liz fucking truss and that whole shit show and just live . Love our dogs and our cats and our cows and our hens , look after each other , raise kids as a village , live a bloody amazing life.

Sign up . I'd seriously do this if we had enough interest, people , and yurts !

Like this lady did?

Exactly. Wonder if she needs volunteers.

I'll be the primary teacher! I'd love to home Ed my DS currently but I need to work. Living in a community would solve the money problem so happy to do an EYFS to KS2 curriculum!

I don't fancy living in a tent, shitting in a hole with a bunch of smelly hippies although Glastonbury was great fun.

There is a commune type thing quite near me, they all have separate houses but share a communal area, cooking is shared etc. Its fairly expensive to buy in, and there would be too many meetings for my liking, but it does look pretty civilised. Most of them do normal jobs though, its not a back to the land turn off your wifi kind of place. I think that would be more my speed if I liked other people more than I do. 😄

Go endive with the amish.

Crispsandicecream · 20/10/2022 02:23

If you’re serious, OP, research eco villages,
tiny home villages, community living etc. There is a growing movement of communities as you describe, with varying levels of eco-friendliness/communal living and so on. Some sound like almost communes, others offer a blend of independence and community.

Doggydarling · 20/10/2022 02:24

Something like this.

Here we are OP… join one of these places.

OP - it does sound lovely. We're in London and I hate where we live. We have loads of animals already including ponies and my daughter spends her life on the local livery yard caring for the horses. She would definitely take to country life.

On the other hand, I only yesterday watched the C4 documentary about the Jonestown massacre 😨and that's exactly the community they built - completely off grid in warm Guyana, but it all ended in complete tragedy because it was unsustainable (but also because the leaders of the community were monstrous)

bubblesr · 20/10/2022 03:05

south Devon has many mini communes like this

MissMaple82 · 20/10/2022 03:21

Sounds like heaven! I'd be there in a heartbeat

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 20/10/2022 03:30

My idea of a nightmare

HirplesWithHaggis · 20/10/2022 03:32

Have a look at www.findhorn.org, stillvicar. You can try before you buy.

YellowTreeHouse · 20/10/2022 03:32

Sounds awful.

beastlyslumber · 20/10/2022 03:42

Thank you to the person who linked to diggers and dreamers! I've been having a happy (insommiac) browse :)

HelpMeGetThrough · 20/10/2022 03:42

I'm in, as long as I can still have my beer and wine stash.

MortalWomb4t · 20/10/2022 05:20

Literally places you can already do this! I'd love to, but also seeing many comments that share my sentiments of a motor home, a 4 legged friend and open roads... bliss!

BenCooperSuperTrouper · 20/10/2022 05:34

Sewage. It’s the dream-killer.

Magissa · 20/10/2022 05:41

I would join you. It's been my escapist dream for years. I think you would need to know the people you were going to do it with though. The idea is bliss but the reality may be quite different. A few years ago I read about a place somewhere in the SW of England that were looking for a family to join their established co-operative. The idea appealed to me but the thought of ending up in the middle of nowhere with a bunch of people who may be totally weird put me off. Equally they could have been amazing I suppose Grin

Sikaris · 20/10/2022 05:44

I'd love to build my own house in nature. A nice spot looking at some trees and making a big porch so I can sit there everyday while the sun goes down.

Magissa · 20/10/2022 05:44

@KloppsTeeth - Sounds good - and the cobra meetings could become viper meetings!

Mollyplop999 · 20/10/2022 05:49

CrackpotOldFool completely agree. I've done the same and feel so much better

Bramblejoos · 20/10/2022 05:52

Hasn't this already been done
www.ecovillagefindhorn.com/index.php/46-findhorn-ecovillage/137-findhorn-foundation

Taillighttoobright · 20/10/2022 06:05

I'd like that. But I'd be a 'low point-scorer' - arthritic, a bit of a drain on the resources without giving much back. What happens in these places when the majority are like me?

TooTiredToWork · 20/10/2022 06:27

You don’t have to go all the way to the Highlands. You can practice your sustainable off grid lifestyle in London in the suburbs. It could be entertaining - enough to make a BBC series or three. Could be quite a Good Life

carameldecaflatte · 20/10/2022 06:28

I'd join you. It's been my lottery win dream for a while now. Buy an island somewhere, plant trees, permaculture, earth ship house. I would miss the internet though!
