They’re the sort of words that would be humorous and horrifying if they were rarely used but they’re so widely used on here, Twitter etc that they just come across as old hat and excruciatingly twee to me.

Shitshow isn't horrifying or humorous, it's just a good, useful and well established slang word.

Cockwomble, I've only ever seen on here.

Don't use them, then. I dont really understand how a word like shitshow could ever be viewed as twee, but each to their own.

Hubby, now. Hubby is a word that sets my teeth on edge and is the very epitome of twee to me.

C*ckwomble is a personal favourite, which I make no apologies for.

Hubby can die a death though. I also dislike the term "hand hold" it really sets my teeth on edge!

I hate 'cockwomble' . Shitshow , however, is an excellent word.

Shitshow is a useful word that I use a lot. Also clusterfuck.

It doesn't need "power", it just needs to mean a disastrous public situation. It's got good alliteration and it's a perfect join of "shit" (the disaster) and "show" (it's going on in front of everyone).

Shitshow is wonderfully descriptive and describes a scenario brilliantly. No further words needed. 'It was a right shitshow at work today'.

Not heard 'cockwomble' outside of here but I get what people mean when they say it.

Cluster Fuck is also yuck. Not keen on that one either.

Shitshow's just another word. I don't see cockwomble used that much - maybe you know more cockwombles. I also hate hubby, and get the cringe from 'unmumsnetty hugs' - what could be more mumsnetty??

Clusterfuck is great - v descriptive and often apt!

I am torn about 'handhold' because mostly it's said by people that are going through something horrible. But 'can I have some support' would be better.

I like 'shitshow' and think it describes a particular situation - a work/semi-public event that doesn't go to plan at all.

'Cockwomble' is stupid, twee and I've never heard it used in real life.

So until all of this has calmed down - You'll just have to get used to people using these words to accurately describe politics...
