They’re the sort of words that would be humorous and horrifying if they were rarely used but they’re so widely used on here, Twitter etc that they just come across as old hat and excruciatingly twee to me.

I didn't realise shitshow was seen as twee or humorous that one doesn't bother me but yes i agree the rest of them are shite. Don't hate them as much as the word super though. That's super shite.

SixChancellorsInAMoneyTree · 16/10/2022 11:19

I love ‘shitshow’. I don’t use it to be humorous - it’s just a great, descriptive phrase.

I’ve never heard cockwomble used in RL. I don’t use cute/funny insults or swear words where a ‘fucking arsehole’ will do.

Scautish · 16/10/2022 11:10

I’ve noticed on here that phrases become popular and then everyone has to use them to feel like they are in the gang. I’ve noticed ones like

”I’d call you a cunt but you lack the warms and depth”

”are you on glue?”

“no my circus, not my monkey”

etc etc

none remotely amusing (IMO) but reused with pride and glee by many on here.

I think conforming is something that makes many posters here feel secure? But that’s me being an armchair psychologist.

Or when someone receives a message from an ex and they aren't sure how to reply someone tells them to reply "who dis" and then everyone comments how this is the best reply ever.

jetadore · 16/10/2022 11:25

As a big fan of Uncle Bulgaria, Mme Cholet & Co. I identify as trans-womble and find the term highly offensive to my bi-race.

FixTheBone · 16/10/2022 11:27

It's OK trussterfuck is moving in.

ThisIsNotAFlyingToy · 16/10/2022 11:31

"Not my circus, not my monkey" is an old (Polish?) phrase. Nothing to do with mn. I think it's a great verbal shrug for "not my shitshow".

Cockwomble is twee. And I really hate that "Get to the far side of fuck..." sentence. If you're dull, best not to flag it up that often.

Hoolihan · 16/10/2022 10:49

Boris is not a 'cockwomble', unless you actually believe his amiable/blundering clown act. He's a deeply enitiled, unpleasant and ruthless egotist.

Do you know him?

People who use words like "cockwomble" and "arsebadger" are always so very pleased with themselves for being so clever and funny

It's very boring

Yes. I agree.

MinnieMountain · 16/10/2022 12:13

Do you believe the bumbling clown act then OP?

megletthesecond · 16/10/2022 12:14

Shitshow is OK. I prefer FUBAR though.

Stayathomenamechange · 16/10/2022 12:18

I don't mind shitshow. Hate all that cutesy twee swearing though so I'm with you on cockwomble and the like.

Carrotzen · 16/10/2022 13:12

Shitshow is just a normal swearword.

And not my circus not my monkeys is an established phrase

Neither of these are being used by people trying to fit in with the crowd. They are just standard words/phrases

And cockwomble is more of a MN term, methinks is a tumblr term of 2010ish. They are not said by the same people at all. Methinks was young teenagers, cockwomble was more twitter/MN adults.

SerenaVanDerWoodsenHumphrey · 16/10/2022 13:24

Cockwomble's a perfectly normal Scottish word, neither humorous nor horrifying in nature. I think it began to be used much more widely after "Trump is cockwomble" (and similar) posters and banners went viral after one of the one of the anti-Trump protests when he visited Scotland after he became US President. I don't see how it's any different from using prick or dick or arsehole or whatever, which are all a lot more widely used.

Shitshow's an Americanism, widely used for decades. I don't think it's fair to single out these words and say they should be off-limits to people who've always used them.

ArticSaviour · 16/10/2022 13:40

Cockwomble is a very specific person. I only use it to refer to him.

Shitshow, clusterfuck, pile of wank etc - I'd say I use those daily

I am going to add Twinkletwat.

I’m also fed up with politicians saying sabre rattling. They need to find another metaphor.

Cock wombling?

Flowerpower36 · 16/10/2022 13:43

“Radio silence” is the one that gets me!

Bairnsmum05 · 16/10/2022 13:47

I live in an area where swearing is frequent and have never heard anybody say cockwomble out loud. Its v middle class.

Flowerpower36 · 16/10/2022 13:56

Wank cheese is one I use.. If the occasion/person in question warrants it! 🤣

Flowerpower36 · 16/10/2022 13:56

FlossMeg · 16/10/2022 13:59

I don’t like the word twee. I have a physical reaction to it and it makes me feel sick.

YABU about 'shit show', it's a perfectly normal phrase used by most people.

'Cockwomble', yeah fair enough it's normally said by people who still think it's funny/rare.

Midnights · 16/10/2022 14:16

@BIWI 😂 currently doing a few extra hours of work at home to catch up, clearly my mind is in must not swear work mode! Apologies, cockwomble 😂

Blackcatsarethebest · 16/10/2022 14:18

I’m sick of hearing my own child say ‘slay’ drives me mad

Blackcatsarethebest · 16/10/2022 14:22

Cuntychops I saw quite a few times on here at one point.
