To want to look my age?!

I'm 34 and yet I look 14. Honestly. I'm sick of the stares and comments when I tell people I'm a mum of three and the eldest is 12.

I dress to my age. I think so anyway! My hair is always shoved up in a ponytail or mum bun otherwise the baby yanks it.

It's becoming a bore now though. Yes "I'll appreciate it when I'm older" blah blah but what can I do to look like the professional woman / mid thirties mum that I am!!?

The weirdest part of the doctor story is that your dd must look 36. What a coincidence, annoying for her though. Does she have a medical condition?

My favourite was a poster saying that when she was buying things at a shop, the shop workers would say ‘is that what your mummy sent you in to your buy?’ 😬 Another poster asked, ‘how old are you claiming you look, presumably about age 3, because that’s how people talk to toddlers. 😂

I don’t know what to make of these posters really. They always get a mention on other forums too with some funny responses so I think I quite like them and appreciate the laugh.

OP, I can understand people thinking someone is younger from a distance, however up close I think it's highly highly unlikely people think you are 14. And that isn't an insult towards you, it's just that 34 year olds just do not look 14. Hair/build/clothes/mannerisms all play a huge part as PPs have said. I am the same height & build as my teen DD & so from a distance people might think we're the same age. On close inspection though I absolutely look my 40-something years so they're going to be under no illusions.
I've never met someone who looks more than a few years either side of their age and these things can become self-perpetuating. I DO have friends who tell me how everyone mistakes them for someone much younger - the truth is they actually don't look any younger, but you can't exactly point that out. However, by not pointing it out & nodding along I'm actually confirming their bias of looking younger. And so it goes on... So I strongly suspect people do know your rough age really, even if they feel they're giving you a compliment by saying otherwise.

Some people are genuinely awful at guessing ages though - loads of posts over the years from posters asking others to guess how old they are. Someone who’s quite obviously somewhere between 45-55 will get anything from 30 to 76. Obviously a lot of people out there with bad eyesight or a limited number of brain cells.

Post a picture OP, come on, be brave and put your money where your mouth is!

That been said, I don’t doubt there are people who may look you ger than their age, but why are these always so far fetched?
Mid 30’s will not look like a teenager, 58 year old won’t look like a 30 year old etc. And that’s okey.

I decided it is only fair to post a picture of me as I am asking OP to do the same. I am over 55 but regularly get asked if I am old enough to drink. Us Celtic women age well!

You asked what you can do to look older so I will tell you. Make up. Red lipstick. hair in a bob or if longer, in a neat chignon or roll. Smartish clothes, or "mom jeans". Flat shoes. Shoulder bag. The trendier you dress, the younger you will look.

I think when your small this tends to happen more. Although 5ft5 isn't that small!

I'm 5ft1 and I look younger than my age. I'd say I look about 30 but cld pass for younger. I'm 37. Got asked when I went for last covid vaccine if I was under 18 🙈 My nephew always telling me I cld pass for his age, he's 15 I don't think so!

Being dead honest, it has been my experience that every single person who’s ever complained about ‘looking 12/14/16’ is talking rubbish. What they generally mean is that they have a round face or they’re short or something like that. It tends to be fairly obvious that they are not, in fact, teenagers.
As has already been mentioned, your general look sounds a bit teenager-ish so I’d change that up a bit.

But they are deluded. A lot of people look maybe 5 or even 10 years younger than they are at certain points in their life. But there are no 80 year olds with no wrinkles, no 36 year olds that look like teens and no 45 year that hasn’t aged since their 20s which are all things claimed on these threads over the last year or so. Some of these threads have been deleted as trolls. It’s bullshit or delusion and really weird.

Obviously the OP isn't going to post a picture but I guarantee that if she were in a line up with actual 14yos, we'd all be able to pick her out.

It's just so utterly delusional. Yes some people age faster than others and women can look fresh faced, but an adult face is different to a teenager's. No 34 year old in the world looks 14.
