AIBU to think this government is now totally dead in the water..?

Wonder what all the Truss handmaidens tying themselves in knots to defend the tax cut will say now..?

Not the main point but did anyone notice how KK’s glasses were on so wonky on the BBC today? One arm of the glasses was like 2 inches above his ear so the glasses were diagonal across his face. It really gave the impression of shambles. Made me feel a bit sorry for him tbh, someone should have told him.

He couldn't even see this for himself? When my specs are skew-whiff I can tell straight away and I put them straight.

What sort of idiot is he?

(One in a suit with skewed glasses . . . )

I wonder what they will do to the NHS

If only she had done the ground work first. Run it past the bodies set up to oversee all of this like the OBR.
Played her cards right and thought it through. People were interested in the energy announcements. She should have held fire on tax cuts etc.
Instead it's now made her look stupid and incompetent and lost a lot of money too.

Continue to fuck it up the arse.

RafaistheKingofClay · 03/10/2022 11:15

It’s not just being sensitive to the needs of the population. She couldn’t even sense the needs of her MPs.

Let’s face it the only reason she’s u-turned on this is because even she isn’t too dumb to realise how catastrophic failing to get this through Parliament when you have a 70-80 seat majority would be. She’d be finished by a ‘fiscal event’ she announced in her first working week as PM.

“Made me feel a bit sorry for him tbh, someone should have told him.”

maybe he was channelling his former leader, thinking dishevelment would endear him to the gullible.

there are many people deserving of sympathy just now. Kwarteng is most definitely not one of them.

EdieLedwell · 03/10/2022 11:18

It's all very "In the Thick of it" isn't it?

SleeplessInEngland · 03/10/2022 11:19

Missed it early but I see Kwarteng has apologised for the champagne reception he had with tory donor hedge fund managers straight after the budget announcement. "Good on him for apologising", some on here will no doubt say.

Arenanewbie · 03/10/2022 11:20

I still won’t forget and won’t forgive. Their priorities were obvious, they just cornered atm hence the u turn.

Oh - has he?

That's all right then.

Allis forgiven, Kwasi.

As you were.

Viviennemary · 03/10/2022 11:25

She looks like a rabit caught in the headlights. Blundering on. Cant believe she is PM. Not for long if common sense prevails.

the80sweregreat · 03/10/2022 11:25

Kwarteng is worse than her if these insider trading allegations are remotely true.
He definitely went to a cocktail party and I doubt they only spoke about the weather. These investors can only talk money I bet
It's people like KK that could get stung by the tabloid papers , 'loose lips cost lives. '
I remember the days of the fake oil rich investors who caught many a high profile person at these type of events then sold it all on to the tabloids regarding dodgy deals and gossip and miner laundering, thus isn't much different but without any evidence

ClaudineClare · 03/10/2022 11:28

Thank you @ChazsBrilliantAttitude for explaining.

derxa · 03/10/2022 11:29

He definitely went to a cocktail party Stone him!

the80sweregreat · 03/10/2022 11:33

Im not saying he shouldn't go to parties..
But insider trading is against the law is it not? If it's true of course..

SleeplessInEngland · 03/10/2022 07:34

Kawteng confirming it on Twitter now (Truss obviously wants him to take the blame). And it only cost the BoE £65 billion in the meantime. These fucking people.

Thick fuckers.

They are a liability. Change of government please.

oakleaffy · 03/10/2022 11:36

The Tories have ruined Britain.
Brexit should never have been ''Put to the people''.
It was won on lies, and a ''Take back control of our borders'' empty promise.

More funding for the NHS? Bwahahaha! 🤥

No more generous EU grants to help disadvantaged communities, and products from EU now come with a price hike.

Then Queasy Kwarteng making the pound plummet, tax cuts for the uber wealthy, it's just nonsensical.

PerkingFaintly · 03/10/2022 11:40

Oh only £65 bn, how much is that then?

Well this graphic shows what their £45 bn cuts look like. So, more than this:

I think part of the problem is that Liz Truss has made so many U turns already!! Andrew Neill listed all the U turns she’d made (during the leadership election, so even before she became PM) and it was kind of funny but also embarrassing - and obviously it paints her in such a bad light.

If your policies come from a place of compassion and make fiscal sense (rather than putting you and your cronies first) you wouldn't have to u-turn. Think about what constant U-turning means - a lack of knowledge, judgement and an understanding of what your electorate want. Not good is it? I think Labour would have got same treatment if they were constantly U-turning. However I have never known a government to be this bad and chaotic.

BoxcarMilly · 03/10/2022 11:48

@oakleaffy Brexit should never have been ''Put to the people''.

Oh no, not Brexit !!

And I get pilloried for whataboutitis !!

😂😂

BitOutOfPractice · 03/10/2022 11:48

Don't get me wrong, I loathe this PM and this government with every fibre of my being. But my overwhelming feeling today for them is just embarrassment. Cringe-worthy embarrassment. Honestly I can't even listen to the news or I'll cringe myself inside out. How she is going to get up on stage and face that, especially when she is not the most, erm, fluent public speaker, I do not know.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 03/10/2022 11:50

Ludicrous. But at the same time I’m glad they have as it was an awful idea. Doesn’t make them any less of a shambles though.

BoxcarMilly · 03/10/2022 11:54

@BitOutOfPractice "But my overwhelming feeling today for them is just embarrassment. Cringe-worthy embarrassment. Honestly I can't even listen to the news or I'll cringe myself inside out"

Hmmm, when all else fails resort to the ubiquitous MN pseudo insult - "I'm so embarrassed for you"

Anyway, no-one's asking you to watch the UK news, try " Russia Today" or "Al Jezeera" they're more interesting....

AdoraBell · 03/10/2022 11:56

My ears are still wringing from the sound of a screeching U turn. PM said yesterday, on Laura Keunsburg (sorry I seem to have slaughtered her name) that she had not discussed the budget with Cabinet members.

Today Chris Philp said that PM and Chancellor had spoken with MPs/Cabinet members, himself included, about their mini budget plans.

the80sweregreat · 03/10/2022 11:59

The PM said yesterday to Laura K that she didn't do the ground work first.
