I am looking forward to the potential for infighting and chaos when the Republicans start to decide whom to elect as Leader for next year. The seriously mad ones don't want McCarthy, and if they just stick to their resolve there are enough of them to stop him from getting it; after that it's a free-for-all.
I liked the recent suggestion that enough people might end up voting for a complete outsider, a Republican who didn't stand for re-election (whose name I can't remember but Trump instantly went off the deep end because he voted for the impeachments), for him to be called back just to do that job. If the Democrats get a vote as well as a largish tranche of the Republicans, it seems quite possible – and it would be very funny indeed if Gaetz and co end up causing a moderate anti-Trumper to get the job.
Fred Upton, that was it. And Trump had a nice whining rant about the possibility:
"Rep. Fred Upton, a Pro-Impeachment RINO, would be a disaster for anything having to do with the word Republican, but especially when it comes to Speaker of the House. My record on Endorsements in the General Election was 232-22, and in the Primaries was 98.6%. I would never have endorsed Upton, who quit Congress in the face of a challenge, and that’s not what Republican’s need. A very dangerous game is being played. Peace through Strength!!!"
