I just read about that on the BBC website Shock

Is that how McCarthy bought his votes?

That's one of the ways. McCarthy truly sold his soul for that job. He knows that since he agreed to the 'instant ouster vote' that he's at the mercy of the radical right. I'm sure one of them told him to give the footage to Fucker Carlson (that's NOT a typo) 'or else'. God only knows what else they're going to demand from him.

As Al Jolson said in the Jazz Singer "Folks, you ain't seen nothin' yet!!".

sounds so stupid to announce something like this this way. especially with someone who has the means to just get on a plane.

OMG, I do hope so!

Shall we have a party if so?!

And worse, getting his supporters all riled up.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 18/03/2023 16:47

Well well. He has finally admittd that he lost the election: what he wrote was

"Leading Republican candidate & former President of the USA will be arrested on Tuesday of next week. Protest, take our nation back!"

AcrossthePond55 · 18/03/2023 18:12

You guys beat me to the thread! At this point there is no independent confirmation of his statement. But then there probably wouldn't be anyway.

The way it works in these investigations is that if they feel they have 'enough' to proceed with an indictment, the subject is 'invited to present their side of the story'. If they decline, then an arrest warrant is issued. We know he was invited, we also know he declined the invitation. They also normally let the subject know the date so they can choose to 'surrender on their own'. So it stands to reason that he's been notified that he will need to either surrender voluntarily or he will be arrested on Tuesday.

What remains to be seen is whether he'll choose to surrender so he can make a big statement on the steps before entering the building or whether he'll wait and make them 'come after him' so he can make a big stink about police brutality and how disrespectfully he was treated once he's released after booking.

What I truly wish, no matter how much I'd love to see him in handcuffs*, is that the media would voluntarily do a 'blackout' on the whole thing.

*I doubt if we'd ever see that to begin with. If they arrest him he'll be escorted to some garage or back door and whisked away.

As far as trying to rile up the Deplorables, who would expect anything else from him? But if he thinks he's going to get some Jan 6 level reaction I think he is sadly mistaken.

Nice to see you too Roussette.

We're doing fine, thank you for asking. Hope you and yours are the same.

DH got an 'all clear' scan in October, but he won't be ruled 'cancer free' until 5 years after last treatment. He's pretty much back up to full speed and we're looking forward to our 6 week cross country RV trip to DisneyWorld (4th time) this Fall. Life is good.

Roussette · 18/03/2023 19:26

Good to hear. Enjoy your trip! Smile

I'm sure whoever is left in Trump's ever decreasing Inner Circle is in despair that despite what happened on Jan 6th, TFG is telling his supporters to "protest".

BruceAndNosh · 18/03/2023 20:04

This week's lawyer Tacopina looks like he's as "energised" as Don Jr.

Since last we gathered here together I have acquired a new skill which might come in useful, to wit,

the secret of BIGLY WORDS

I'm beginning to think that all those pro Trump politicians that get a golden invite to Mar a Lago end up being blackmailed by TFG with compromising hidden camera footage. Why else would they continue to support this liability?

BruceAndNosh · 19/03/2023 08:53

Is any work actually happening in Congress apart from committees investigating previous committees?

Nope. They have no philosophy and don't believe in governing so whipping up discord and division to a high enough level that people will keep reelecting them even though they've done nothing for their constituents is all the Republicans have got at this point.

The Hunter Biden countersuit could get interesting.

Don't get me wrong, I want them to get Trump on something, but I'm a little disappointed it's this case. Small money to bribe people is par for the course with him. I'd much prefer to see the Georgia case close in on him.

AcrossthePond55 · 19/03/2023 14:31

The Senate seems to be moving things along for the most part. But with a GOP majority in the House, that's where things are getting stymied. But I'm sure the GOP felt the same way when the balances were reversed. The only difference is the GOP didn't have to deal with Dems who were basically sitting on the floor with their arms crossed and cat's bum mouth saying "won't, won't WON'T!!!" to anything they proposed, simply because it was a Dem proposal.

The thing about blackmail is interesting @BruceAndNosh . DH and I often wonder about the same thing. But I guess more realistically, it's that they're so invested in being reelected and in some areas they need the Trumper votes to get reelected. So they're more than happy to sell their souls to the devil to keep their jobs. Then you have the Boeberts, the Taylor Greenes, and the others who are just plain insane.

Some of the talking heads seem to indicate that Trump's hold on the GOP is 'waning'. After all, Trump's support actually caused some candidates to lose in the midterms. And some of the more reasonable GOP have started to 'disavow' him, although not in strong enough terms. Now we have the potential for (possibly multiple) trials to be going on with hopefully some convictions. It will be interesting to see what happens once the 2024 election season really heats up.

Just for a little brush up; Yes, Trump can still be POTUS even as a convicted felon, even if he's currently in prison. The exception is conviction for insurrection. BUT in some states convicted felons are not allowed to vote (Florida being one of those states).

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 19/03/2023 15:21

Thinking of the House Republican majority....

This is an occasion on which unless you find Beau of the Fifth Column absolutely maddening (I know a lot of people do) he might be worth a listen; I laughed and laughed at this particular 'cast about the GOP budget proposals and the budget office.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 19/03/2023 15:22

He isn't bad on "what happens if Trump gets indicted" either.

BruceAndNosh · 19/03/2023 17:41

there's a significant number of GOP who are refusing to get on board with their own side's policies either
