Where is Nicholas Witchell?

I can’t be the only one wondering where the BBC’s royal correspondent has got to these days. He’s not been heard from since the day they announced the queens death. Not that I miss the man, but surely he has the easiest job at the beeb.

I was wondering this too. I had to switch to ITV last Thursday because he was just so awful. So I was still watching ITV when the death was announced. Have been watching quite a bit of BBC coverage since and noticed he wasn't around. Had hoped he'd been retired! I can't think of anyone else who makes me switch the TV news off other than Boris.

I also switched to ITV, and I’m glad I did.

Mary Nightingale broke the news beautifully.

He's been disemboweled and mummified and will accompany Her Majesty into the next life.

Every time I see a member of the royal family sitting next to a vase or jar, I'll think, 'that's got Nicholas Witchell's internal organs in it'.

notdaddycool · 15/09/2022 03:46

Just hope he retires before the coronation. Never had anything interesting to say, just repeats mindless tropes.

Endlesssummer2022 · 15/09/2022 06:00

He’s awful. You can tell he never gets near any of them or their staff so knows nothing and has nothing of substance to say. It’s all just speculation and the digs at H&M (because he has no genuine info) is playing to the gallery and unprofessional. He needs to retire.

Anonymouseposter · 15/09/2022 08:29

I have no problem at all with news the head of state doesn’t like being reported. I’m not a monarchist. It’s just the snide digs about things he has no real knowledge of that are off putting. I am not surprised that the King dislikes him. If I was a father trying to mend family relationships someone speculating about my feelings and making digs at my son would “royally “ piss me off.

Lol i loved that clip of Charles muttering under his breath about Nicholas Witchell...does anyone know why Charles hates him?

Because he’s a ghastly cadaverous ghoul?

I googled: Jennie Bond has written a couple of articles for random newspapers this week. Burrell has been blubbering and saying the Queen was his “surrogate mother”. Puke.

Oh good lord I've gladly not seen him anywhere I think I saw a glimpse of him on ch5 I think but quickly flicked over,'he is repulsive.

JemimaPiddleDick · 15/09/2022 09:31

I’d like to think it’s because he’s been hugely inappropriate throughout the past week. Saying “now is not the time to speculate” whilst also saying she may have cancer, possibly had a fall, showed signs she might have had a cannula fitted recently. Politicising the death of a Monarch by repeating ad nauseum the “special love she had for Scotland and it’s place in the Union”, I could go on.

DorritLittle · 15/09/2022 09:36

This thread is reminding me of the school common room. You lot are horrible!

Sometimes I wonder how many mumsnetters know what trope actually means.

Namechangedforthisonetoday · 15/09/2022 09:40

Thank you everyone on this thread for making me howl with laughter this morning 😂 the wicker corgi, NW accompanying the queen into the next life and the mere mention of everyone’s favourite royal Paul Burrell spouting utter tripe, ahhh I do love mumsnet!

VillanellesCoat · 15/09/2022 09:42

DogInATent · 14/09/2022 16:12

He's being prepared for the Wicker Corgi.
It's what she would have wanted.

You win the internet this week 🤣🤣

x2boys · 15/09/2022 09:45

I think Paul" I was her Rock "Burrell and lady Colin Campball should do a reality TV series together they could out royal each other!

Namechangedforthisonetoday · 15/09/2022 09:47

x2boys I think you should start pitching that, you’d make millions. Can you actually imagine it? 🙈😂

Oh that has GB news written all over it.

Yesthatismychildsigh · 15/09/2022 10:09

He makes my flesh crawl. The level of obsequiousness, the faux reverent tone he uses, the way he just blathers any old rubbish to seemingly just get words out. The afternoon waiting for her to die, I had the news on for a short while. The absolute shite he was spouting was beyond embarrassing. There’s just something not normal about it, reminds me of the photographer on The Crown but far worse.

antelopevalley · 15/09/2022 10:28

He says endless shite because there is not actually that much to say about a 96 year old woman dying. It is the same with everyone forced to talk on TV about this for hours.

Anonymouseposter · 15/09/2022 10:44

I can see he has a lot of time to fill and a bit of whittering is inevitable, but his snide comments are unnecessary.
A line of all the Royal family were standing in a row at Westminster Hall. (Zara Tindall, the Princess of Wales etc.)-Oh, he says in a sneery, faux respectful voice, The Duchess of Sussex is looking on from the left.
Oh, there's Prince Harry-not in uniform.
When the then Prince Charles was overheard saying he couldn't stand him he had just asked a young Prince William what he thought of his father's upcoming wedding.
I have no problem with hard questions about whether the monarchy should exist, inheritance tax etc- at the right time, but I don't like his odd mixture of the Uriah Heep approach and the tabloid type delight in looking for scandal.
It's not the time to speculate he says-but don't let that stop me.

vera99 · 15/09/2022 10:46

Roll on bloody Tuesday when we can get back to a semblance of normality. Enough is enough.

Did you miss the Accession Council? - there are seven days of official mourning after the funeral.

StopStartStop · 15/09/2022 13:28

NW's commentary after Princess Margaret died was so horrible I rang the BBC and complained. They should have sacked him then, the odious little man.

vera99 · 15/09/2022 13:41

Crikey haven't we mourned enough I hope that 7 days is just something about flags and the royal family wearing armbands or something. Everybody I know has had more than enough thanks.

Not sure if anyone else saw it but there was a young lad (Jordan) interviewed by the BBC last night - him and his mum and sister had been in to view the queen lying in state - he was absolutley brilliant and totally hilarious (unintentionally) and I could have listened to him explain things all night! He summed up the occassion perfectly when explaining how quiet it was - "it's a big thing"!! He was so sincere and so respectful of the situation despite his young age and was clearly completely in awe of it all.

I would have him over Witchell or any other arse-licker any day.
