I want to choose when I have a holiday!

I don't want the Queens funeral to take one of my days of holiday entitlement. What if I can't attend something I want to go to because I have no annual leave left because I had to take this off. So annoying.

Are they making it use up some of your entitlement? Can you offer to work that day?

Shreik · 11/09/2022 18:25

I think most employers are, or it will cost them millions of pounds to just give everyone a day off won't it? I can't work,no

CeeJay81 · 11/09/2022 18:26

It's an extra day though. So not taken out of your our holiday entitlement. An extra bank holiday.

Ah yeah didn't think of that.

Do you not understand the concept of a bank holiday?

TwinkleChristmas · 11/09/2022 18:26

You couldn’t of posted on one of the 1000s of other threads saying the exact same thing 🙄

DelphiniumBlue · 11/09/2022 18:27

It should not come out of your holiday entitlement.

luxxlisbon · 11/09/2022 18:28

That’s not how a bank holiday works.

This

justfiveminutes · 11/09/2022 18:29

It's a bank holiday so an extra day. It won't come out of your annual holiday allowance.

Shreik · 11/09/2022 18:29

I haven't seen another thread sorry. Please explain how it won't cost employers a lot of money to give everyone the day off ?

OP posts:
Thatiswild · 11/09/2022 18:29

It’s been declared a bank holiday, which means you get paid for not working if you don’t have the choice of working surely. It should not be a day’s leave, so don’t take it as one.

It doesn't matter if it does

It's a bank holiday

You won't have to use your annual leave

Employers don't have to give this one though which is the only difference between this BH and the others we usually get

Shreik · 11/09/2022 18:30

My bank holidays are part of my leave entitlement.

OP posts:
Shreik · 11/09/2022 18:30

But employers will feel they have to, then they lose a lot of money

What does your contract say about bank holidays?

I'm entitled to bank holidays as paid leave. It doesn't state how many. What did your work do for the jubilee?

ILikeHotWaterBottles · 11/09/2022 18:32

Shreik · 11/09/2022 18:30

My bank holidays are part of my leave entitlement.

You'd have to check with your company, but I imagine that they will either take the hit for one day since it is the queen, or they will say you are working and if you want it off, it's annual leave like every other bank holiday.

CeeJay81 · 11/09/2022 18:33

I work an industry that is open every day var Xmas day and Easter Sunday. Nothing has been decided yet and I'm I'm to work that day. Bank Holidays don't mean anything in retail.

nachoavocado · 11/09/2022 18:33

If you're part time are bank Holidays pro rata? I've never understood that bit.

Darbs76 · 11/09/2022 18:33

We get paid bank holidays. Part timers get it as part of their leave allowance, but they will be given extra for the additional unexpected BH. Either way not much can be done or said, it’s happening and hopefully most people can respect that it’s right to have the day of the Queen’s funeral as a BH, after 70 dedicated years of service.

Shreik · 11/09/2022 18:33

Yes part time pro rata

Shreik · 11/09/2022 18:34

But some companies are already struggling now they have to pay everyone not to work

I'm self employed my son's nursery won't be open so I can't work. Fees still need to be paid but I won't be able to earn for that day. So annoying!

I forgot that bit. Still have to pay the nursery fees.

It's a bank holiday so an extra day. It won't come out of your annual holiday allowance.

Something posted earlier on my SM feed from out council actually said that it can be and it's between you and your employer.

It seemed wrong to me but entirely probable to be true?
