AIBU?
Maudlin songs other people seem to love.

Just watching Ollie Murrs singing sweet Caroline. That song always make me feel sad. Everyone in the audience seemed to love it.
Come on Eileen is another one. Also anything by Queen or ABBA just depresses me and makes me feel odd.
What songs do you find maudlin even though everyone seems to love them?
Am I being unreasonable?

Your list is superb @BearGryllsDad and I get the same feeling with all of those
i would add “Build Me Up Buttercup” to that list as well.
TwoMonthsOff · 10/09/2022 22:13
Imagine is awful as is Nilsson ‘Can’t Live’ both horrendous and totally agree about c’mon Eileen I can’t even bear to see them mentioned actually 😭(in case I get an earworm)
BearGryllsDad · 10/09/2022 22:13
Oh god yes Build me up buttercup. Totally. Jot just me then!
BearGryllsDad · 10/09/2022 22:16
Perhaps they remind me of the last song in a club in the 90s when you didn't get lucky and all the men around are pissed and horribly unappealing.
EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 10/09/2022 22:19
You've named two of my hates, but I'm going to be controversial and say 70% of Adele's output but particularly Hello and Easy On Me

Haha yes my local used to play Don't Stop me Now at the end of the night and I always associate it with a feeling of disappointment

Adele was the first artist that came to mind. Whining, depressing shite.
EugeneLevysEyebrow · 10/09/2022 22:35
Any of the many songs from the 1990s or 2000s where the original was a perfectly good song, but for reasons unknown there’s now a cover version where it’s a slowed down overly emotional version with a female twangy type singer. The type of thing that’s always used in Christmas adverts.
Sparklingbrook · 10/09/2022 22:40
Jeff Buckley is quite depressing in general.
Bohemiam Rhapsody gives me the absolute creeps and goes on far too long.

@BearGryllsDad
in retrospect though you were lucky to have served them 😭

I lasted about three minutes into the Mamma Mia film. I said ‘make it stop’ and ran outside
Spinstdu · 11/09/2022 00:13
Careless Whisper
So depressing and I love George but hate this song.
Ashurbanipal · 11/09/2022 00:35
"Angels" by Robbie Williams - utterly mawkish tripe, ridiculously overplayed and hugely overrated.
kimchifox · 11/09/2022 00:49
I HATE sweet Caroline. It makes me cringe. Come on Eileen is a close second. I think it's songs with names in but I've got misophonia so some things get to me in an odd way, maybe it's something to do with that.
