AIBU?

To absolutely HATE wine with every fibre of my body?

Omgwhatisthat · 07/09/2022 20:49

Just the smell makes me gag. I cannot swallow it without being physically sick.

My friends and colleagues all seem to be obsessed with wine. Some don’t believe/can’t seem to understand it when I say I despise all types of wine and ask me to try theirs in an attempt to change my mind…

Please tell me I am not alone!

That's just sour grapes.

Hahahaha.

EbbyEbs · 07/09/2022 20:51

I don’t drink it either, tastes like vinegar to me

Bytrgrewd · 07/09/2022 20:52

🤣🤣

Omgwhatisthat · 07/09/2022 20:52

@Freda999 Do I need to stop “wining”? 😁

Sorry my post was supposed to be a reply to the sour grapes comment

tillyandmilly · 07/09/2022 20:53

Wine - bleurgh- rancid!

LiftyLift · 07/09/2022 20:53

I hated wine as a teenager, then developed a taste for it via a sweet rose, then moved to whites, then on to reds. It’s a gradual process. If you try to start on a big red you’ll probably not like it.

Mushroo · 07/09/2022 20:53

I love wine but feel the same way and gin and tonic. It’s just bitter, too icy and gross.

FriendOfDorothyGale · 07/09/2022 20:54

I know a few people who don't like wine. They usually like sweet drinks like alcopos and other stuff that doesn't taste alcoholic.

I love it myself. But I only like very dry whites and Rose's and deep, peppery reds.

I cannot bear sweet white wine. Its the only thing I can't drink.

tune · 07/09/2022 20:54

I hate wine! Feel like I've been left out of some of the mum groups as they have ladies who wine nights. Don't get the fuss and don't think it's great that so many people need a bottle of it to get through the night/weekend to be honest.

Omgwhatisthat · 07/09/2022 20:55

I’m genuinely interested: what does wine taste like to people who enjoy it? It just tastes like chemicals to me - like cleaning products.

yes

MrsLargeEmbodied · 07/09/2022 20:56

actually i can only have one glass of rose recently, and even then i am not sure i can finish it

PaperwhiteTheGhost · 07/09/2022 20:56

I love wine.

I HATE fizzy drinks. Hate them. It hurts my mouth. And people react to that the same was they react to you not liking wine so you have my full sympathy! They seem to think I've reached my mid 30s yet cannot possibly decide for myself if I like something or not. Annoying and borderline rude.

Cheers to individuality!!

Omgwhatisthat · 07/09/2022 20:57

@tune Yay! I’ve found someone who understands my struggles. I don’t understand wine culture at all.

I also suffer at work/networking events as everyone else enjoys getting pissed on wine whereas I’m always as sober as a judge…

Have you tried expensive wine? Tis very different!

FriendOfDorothyGale · 07/09/2022 20:58

The white wine I like, usually sayvignon blanc, taste very crisp. It has a citrussy taste to it, kind of grapefruity.

I like very dry rose which I now add a slice of green chilli too after seeing it on tiktok and it is a revelation.

The red I enjoy tastes peppery and with a dark Berry and vanilla subtle taste to it.

Needmorelego · 07/09/2022 20:58

Yeah I with you. No interest in wine. Doesn't taste nice.
Would rather have a cherryade or something.

FriendOfDorothyGale · 07/09/2022 20:59

*sauvignon

Batshittery · 07/09/2022 20:59

I love it on a Saturday night, but swearing never to touch it again by Sunday morning Grin

PurplePeach62 · 07/09/2022 20:59

Can I ask how old you are? I used to hate it too until I hit 60 😵‍💫

JohnsShirt · 07/09/2022 21:00

I don't like it either, I used to but now it just tastes like bleeeurgh.

Different wines taste different to me. All like "wine", but I can distinguish different types (not in a wine wanker way, just in a "I like rioja and gavi but don't particularly like shiraz or savignion blanc way)

I also cannot stand cucumber and I read somewhere that it has a chemical in it that only a small percentage of people can taste- maybe wine is similar for you and other haters? (Disclaimer: I don't know if cucumber thing is true or not)

ThisIsNotAFlyingToy · 07/09/2022 21:02

Do you like any alcoholic drinks? Which ones? I like wine but hate all the wine-o'clock culture shite. I hate people making a big fuss about liking/drinking wine.

The what now?
