To wash my hair in the morning?

Quick one for you all- some perspective needed here please!

DP says all women he's ever known have washed their hair at night, before bed.

I say no, done in the morning shower as always. In the evening would also mean an extra shower.

For context on my hair wash days it only adds 5 minutes onto my routine. He takes twice as long in the shower every day.

What do you all do? What's the most common thing?

I wash mine in the evening usually. My DH is the opposite to yours and thinks most people wash their hair in the morning. In the working week I find it easier to wash in the evening so I don't have to go out with wet hair (it takes ages to diffuse so easier to do at night).

MarshaMelrose · 06/09/2022 18:55

Mine's shoulder length. If I washed it in the evening and then slept on it straightaway, I'd would look like a scarecrow the next morning.

FairyHannie · 06/09/2022 18:56

I wash mine when it needs doing usually once or twice a week and either in the morning, evening, mid afternoon whatever. I wouldn't expect my partner to either notice or care when I was doing it compared to "other people" either?!

WimbyAce · 06/09/2022 18:58

I wash mine every other day in the evening and go to bed with it wet. Not blow dried it since kids!

Glitterblue · 06/09/2022 19:01

It depends really. If it's going to be an early start in the morning or it's going to be a hassle, I'll do it the night before - for example when we came home from our last self catering holiday, leaving at 8am and had to pack the car that morning.

Sometimes I go through phases of enjoying not having to deal with it on a morning and I'll do it the night before but other times I go through phases of wanting to get to bed early so I'll leave it till the morning.

I used to always, without fail, wash it in the morning. My mum does hers at night and wouldn't even entertain the thought of doing it in the morning. My sister ways does hers in the morning, DD sometimes does hers in the morning, sometimes at night. It all depends on whether she thinks she might want a bit longer in bed in the morning!

CharlotteRose90 · 06/09/2022 19:01

Evening time for me. Nothing worse then doing it in the morning or afternoon. I love getting into bed clean and fresh.

Ki44 · 06/09/2022 19:09

I shower/bath in an evening which means I wash my hair at night.

Out of curiosity for morning wash people, did your parents shower/bath you in a morning? I always wondered if whether you were a morning or evening shower/bath person was based on your routine as a kid?

It was always bath, book and bed for me - all the way from baby to being old enough to bath myself. It never occurred to me to change the routine.

Penguinsaregreat · 06/09/2022 19:12

If I’m working then I do it at night, I style my hair so would take too long in the morning. If I’m not working then I do it in the morning.

Georgyporky · 06/09/2022 19:17

He's a pratt, but I guess you know that already.

But, could he possibly mean washing pubes & bits before bedtime ?!?

LongTing · 06/09/2022 19:17

I wash it every 3/4 days in the morning and blow dry it. Adds a bit of time to my morning routine, but it’s manageable. Wear it half up half down on day 2 / or down but refresh with dry shampoo (greasy hair!) and wear it up on day 3. Repeat.

Only wash it at night if I want it to be beachy wavy, then tie it up wet in a bun and it’s wavy in the morning. Too scruffy for work, though.

misspiggy42 · 06/09/2022 19:18

Every morning. Mine is awful once I've slept on it. It's very fine and greasy so goes flat after it's been slept on. Plus it just makes me feel fresher for the day. Everyone is different. Your dh is BU to make sweeping generalisations.

BusySittingDown · 06/09/2022 19:20

I wash my hair in the mornings so it's fresh for the day and I always wash my hair before a night out.

SpeckofDustUponMySoul · 06/09/2022 19:22

I wash it in the morning, as otherwise I wake up looking like Hagrid and Worzel Gummidge's genetically engineered miracle baby.

MrsAvocet · 06/09/2022 19:23

I usually do mine in the morning. It's long and very thick and takes ages to dry. I washed it first thing this morning and it's still damp. If I washed it at night I'd end up with mouldy pillows and very messy hair and it takes too long to blow dry so I couldn't be bothered with that.

It was always bath, book and bed for me - all the way from baby to being old enough to bath myself. It never occurred to me to change the routine.

My routine as a kid was a flannel face/pits/bits wash at the sink every morning, then 2nd or 3rd hand bath water on a Sunday (topped up with some hot) when my hair would be washed and rinsed with a few jugs of clean tap water.
As an adult I shower and wash my hair every morning. I am trying to switch to doing it at night so there's less faff in the morning though but am also trying to only put on the hot water on alternate days, so the inbetween day shower is a bit tepid and grim.

Occitane · 06/09/2022 19:28

Sometimes morning, sometimes evening, depends on circumstances.

What has it got to do with him? Wash it when it suits you! 😁

Topgub · 06/09/2022 19:29

How on earth would he cope with the knowledge that some women don't wash their hair in the morning or at night?

Some dont wash their hair (or shower) every day!

KermitlovesKeyLimePie · 06/09/2022 19:30

Morning for me.

It wakes me up and if I were to bath or shower later in the day I would never get to sleep.

Beepbeepenergy · 06/09/2022 19:30

MORNING - never wash mine at night

mathanxiety · 06/09/2022 19:30

What business is it of your DP's?

I wash mine in the morning. I don't have to excuse that or explain it.

I certainly wouldn't feel I had to explain what I do with my own hair and when to any man who decided to comment.

mathanxiety · 06/09/2022 19:33

Tell him the vast majority of men you have known have stayed in their own lane when it comes to women's hair and what they choose to do with it.

yetimum1 · 06/09/2022 19:35

I wash mine at night after the gym, leave it to dry overnight and style in morning. If I was to wash in the morning it would mean hair drying and styling in the AM whilst attending to a 5 month old baby.

However, I don’t think it matters WHEN you wash it as long as it fits with your routine. I’m lucky that my hair doesn’t get greasy for 4-5 days so can leave for days without washing if needed but obviously this isn’t the same for everyone!

I think your husband is BU to assume all women wash their hair at the same time 😂

riotlady · 06/09/2022 19:37

Varies. I never use a hairdryer (long thick hair, takes forever) so I wash at night if I’m going to work in the morning, wash in the morning if I’m working from home or in the house. I only wash it every 3-4 days though, it doesn’t get as greasy now as it did when I was younger

Phos · 06/09/2022 19:37

I've always tended to do it in the evenings because I have more time, but for some reason my hair dries quicker these days so I can get away with it in the morning now. I don't have time to straighten it but when it's just been dried, it usually lasts the day without frizzing.

Ponderingwindow · 06/09/2022 19:41

I wash at night because it takes forever to dry. Every hairdresser who has every had the misfortune to dry my hair with a blow dryer has commented on how long my hair takes to dry.
