To warn you about Russian windows?

It appears that Russian windows are terribly dangerous. It's shocking the number of critics of Putin who have suffered these "accidents", shocking I tell you!

Can you put "defenestration" on a death certificate 🤔

You’re not wrong
Russian Journalists Keep Falling

VirginiaWool · 01/09/2022 11:23

Meh. In Ukraine they have accidents with acid.

It's a repressive regime. Ofc it does bad things.

I read this as Russian WIDOWS 😂
Presumably here to steal our husbands.

hewouldwouldnthe · 01/09/2022 11:27

Terrifying place to live and speak out.

VirginiaWool · 01/09/2022 11:28

Our own PM was notably unbothered by any of this during the first twenty one years of this century.

Alexandra2001 · 01/09/2022 11:32

We all knew what Putin was like and to our eternal shame, carried on doing business with him his Oligarchs, even after he shot down a civilian airliner & invaded Crimea and Georgia.

Don't really see that murdering people should be a topic for humour @CaveMum

CaveMum · 01/09/2022 11:35

Of course murder is not a joke, does that really need saying? The joke is that we are expected to believe that this was (yet another) unfortunate accident.

I read about this this morning. Putin really doesn't give a fuck. I feel sorry for Russia.

VirginiaWool · 01/09/2022 11:42

Agree with @Alexandra2001 .

This doesn't really fit the brief for light-hearted threads about funny foreigners and their funny ways.

Tell you what was funny though was that time shortly after NATO decided that what had been going on in Donbas for eight years could be called war, when it suited them, and all the UK businesses seemingly unaware of their own supply chains announced they were going to boycott Russian goods. It took a while for them to realise that Russian money is embedded throughout the global economy and that taking Stolichnaya (which isn't made in Russia anyway) off the shelves wasn't going to cut it.

You're not expected to believe it. Nobody in Russia does. Repeated implausible denial is part of the strategy of shutting down any discussion. What you're expected to believe is that the Russian state is ruthless.

Suggest you re read your title & op and ask MN to edit it? as it comes across as some sort of Mash report style humour.

Anything can be a topic for humour. Have you ever heard of satire?

Bebbanburg2507 · 01/09/2022 11:51

I thought this thread was going to be someone telling me not to buy russian windows for my house...I was intrigued as to what was wrong with russian windows 😂
But yes...very suspicious.

VirginiaWool · 01/09/2022 11:51

This thread might have heard of satire but it was probably standing quite far away at the time.

CaveMum · 01/09/2022 11:52

Dark humour gets us through the worst of times. I’m happy with the thread title.

Usual for Putin. The Oligarchs are one of the biggest threats to him, and he’s well aware of talk of them being able to depose him in response to the Ukraine invasion. I don’t know if Maganov was involved in any plots, or if this is ‘only’ intended to be a message to the Oligarchs (one, Alekperov, was the president of Lukoil, and resigned a week after sanctions were imposed).

I very much doubt anyone was supposed to believe it was actually an accident.

Rosehugger · 01/09/2022 12:11

Me too re widows.

If Russian windows are so dangerous, can't someone shove Putin out of one?

That’s what he’s trying to prevent.

Unfortunately he’s an ex KGB lieutenant colonel. He knows all the tricks, and as such also knows the necessary preventative measures.

sobeyondthehills · 01/09/2022 12:33

I have a silly question, if anyone could help

Are they being killed by Putin and his like because they have spoken out against the war or he thinks they are a threat in someway?

Or an outside "someone" who is trying to cut away Putin's inner circle?

Or is it anyone's guess?

The Soviet system was "the watchers are being watched" i.e., if you put one toe out of line, no matter where you were in the system, someone would see you and get you dispatched. Could be any number of people but since this guy was an oligarch AND outspoken against the war, it's probably Putin's circle at the very least.

Seeline · 01/09/2022 12:48

I thought Putin had hacked Microsoft, and all our computers were at risk or something!
They probably are - but that could equally be China or North Korea.....

sobeyondthehills · 01/09/2022 12:54

Thank you @RaRaRaspoutine

I did chuckle at your name though
