It appears that Russian windows are terribly dangerous. It's shocking the number of critics of Putin who have suffered these "accidents", shocking I tell you!

Can you put "defenestration" on a death certificate 🤔

Really sorry to hear that @whumpthereitis . Russia could be incredible, it has a lot going for it. But I can't think of a single time when the people in charge of it knew what to do with it. And as you say that goes back a long time.

Read an interesting thread earlier about the psychology of lies in Russia: twitter.com/sumlenny/status/1565772502663450624?s=21&t=JYN1YAq21o84At16wukUDw

This is true. I see some responses of ‘how stupid are they, to think we’ll believe such an obvious lie!’ but that is indeed missing the point. They don’t expect you to believe it.

Such a lie has a number of purposes. It’s an act of contempt (‘I’ll insult your intelligence with this, knowing you won’t believe it but also knowing there’s fuck all you can do about it’), a challenge (‘go on then, do something. No? Thought not’), and a message (‘my enemies, I hope you are watching closely. Don’t think this can’t and won’t be you’).

It is what it is, but thank you. I wasn’t born there (lol, I was born in another country that doesn’t exist any more), so I’m more removed than my father is. It’s definitely harder for him, mine is a sadness whereas his is more akin to a grief. It’s a country of extremes, poverty and wealth, cruelty and kindness, and I don’t know a Russian that doesn’t hate it as fiercely as they love it.
