Mouse on patio this morning

Zooeyzo · 23/08/2022 13:09

Spotted a mouse this morning on my patio so I banged on the window it ran off and then came back after a couple of minutes.
This went on around 5 times and I was quite surprised firstly that its daytime and second that it's an annoying little bastard mouse who won't go away.
First time I've seen one. No food or anything on patio of interest. It's also paving not a wooden one where they might live under. It's also very clear so I spotted it straight away.
I've kept the back door open all day over spring and summer.

How do people keep pests away from the house.

Aww how cute! We love seeing our local wildlife in the garden. Let the little mouse enjoy your garden before any cats get it.

MyGirlDaisy · 23/08/2022 13:20

I have wood mice in my garden, I think they are cute and my doors have been open all summer and they haven’t come in. If there is nothing to tempt them then they are unlikely to come in your house.

PeachPRC · 23/08/2022 13:21

’mouse spotted outside in its natural environment’ shocker

Somanysocks · 23/08/2022 13:22

It was outside, leave it alone.

ApolloandDaphne · 23/08/2022 13:22

It's just a mouse. Leave it be.

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 23/08/2022 13:23

I can't believe you saw a mouse outside!!!

Strugglingtodomybest · 23/08/2022 13:25

I'm disappointed, I thought we'd get a photo of the mouse.

To answer your question though, we have a rodent deterrent thingy plugged in in the kitchen. I haven't seen one since we got it.

Somanysocks · 23/08/2022 13:26

Come back for advice when you have a crocodile on your patio.🐊

FatEaredFuck · 23/08/2022 13:29

My thought is that it's poorly? Wild animals acting unusually is supposed to be a symptom of ill health. Keep your doors closed for a couple of days I assume it will die

watcherintherye · 23/08/2022 13:30

The outside world is full of mice, voles, shrews and many other creatures going about their normal lives. It’s probably trying to escape from your patio. Maybe a cat deposited it there. Put a large bowl over it, slide some cardboard underneath it and set it free.

LuciferRising · 23/08/2022 13:31

Do you really hate wildlife that much? If so, keep your house away from them?

Summerhillsquare · 23/08/2022 13:31

Probably a baby one, they don't know they're supposed to hide away sometimes.

Mrsphilmiller · 23/08/2022 13:32

@Somanysocks 😂

YABU!
cute little mouse.

Woopzies · 23/08/2022 13:35

Confused at the replies since obviously if it's on the patio the next stage is finding a hole to get into the house...

OP, I'd lay down some traps + poison around the exterior of the house, potentially some near openings and 'outside type' areas (e.g., pantry garden room etc etc) and you shouldn't have any issues.

mountainsunsets · 23/08/2022 13:37

What's the issue?

It's a mouse in its natural environment!

Because it's not doing any harm?

What a grim attitude you have!

pd339 · 23/08/2022 13:37

Jesus. Leave the poor thing alone.

LuciferRising · 23/08/2022 13:38

We have mice in the garden. They don't come in. If you must set traps, set humane ones.

Zooeyzo · 23/08/2022 13:38

Sorry I should have made it clearer. I don't care that its outside just worried now in case it comes inside. I'm not sure if it's a field mouse it was quite big and very brave they way it kept coming back to the patio.

Get a cat. Or brush a friend’s cat and stuff the hair in any holes they might explore to try and get in.

Horrible things. My cat brings me dead ones every day.

Zooeyzo · 23/08/2022 13:39

I'm not looking to set traps or lay bait. It's not in the house.

Zooeyzo · 23/08/2022 13:41

I did go around the house this morning and looked for holes but the house is new only built it ourselves 5 years ago so no holes or old bits where they can access.

If your worried sprinkle peppermint oil in the doorway.
Mice don't like it.

ManateeFair · 23/08/2022 13:44

Most mice live outdoors and have zero interest in getting into your house, so I really wouldn’t give this a second thought.

I think in this scenario the horrible thing is the cat, really
