Mouse on patio this morning

Zooeyzo · 23/08/2022 13:09

Spotted a mouse this morning on my patio so I banged on the window it ran off and then came back after a couple of minutes.
This went on around 5 times and I was quite surprised firstly that its daytime and second that it's an annoying little bastard mouse who won't go away.
First time I've seen one. No food or anything on patio of interest. It's also paving not a wooden one where they might live under. It's also very clear so I spotted it straight away.
I've kept the back door open all day over spring and summer.

How do people keep pests away from the house.

I have a mouse that lives in the steps by my back door.
I leave little pinch of bird seed by its entrance.
Been there for years , yes I know it won't be the same mouse 🐁

Actually the first thing I thought of was the diseases spread by such vermin and how much from a hygiene perspective it is definitely not preferable to have them in the house.

I actually find it vile that people are happy to risk mice getting into their homes.

Get a bloody grip.

Marinamountainzoo · 23/08/2022 16:16

Well OP, you've done better than I did this morning. My kids went out in the garden this morning to find a dead mouse under the trampoline and then stood in a cat shit.

We use one of those plug in deterent things in the kitchen. No idea if it works, we've never spotted evidence of mice since moving in. Our old house had mice once (woke up to one on Christmas morning!) So I'm a bit paranoid about them.

Marinamountainzoo · 23/08/2022 16:17

Should add, I don't have a cat but the neighbours one has taken a liking to our garden.

But the mouse isn't in the home yet - it's outside, where it's supposed to be, minding its' own business.

IF it does come inside, then you can use traps with peanut butter or other human methods to catch and release them. No need to go around laying poison for an animal that hasn't done anything to hurt you.

Also, the diseases spread by humans are much worse than anything spread by mice Wink

Hedgesfullofbirds · 23/08/2022 16:25

Very similar @CalistoNoSolo, except that @Zooeyzo has not, in fairness, said or implied that she wishes to kill the mouse

This is like the indorex spider thread. Kill the fucking mouse using any means necessary, if there is collateral to other wildlife so much the better.

What the fuck is wrong with people that they are so indifferent to the welfare of other species living around them? Poisoning is a despicable way to kill something and I would rather kill the cats than any of the small creatures they predate on. I fucking hate people.

well said!

I really hope all the proud cat owners have put at least 2 bells on their collars

Chikapu · 23/08/2022 16:43

Go buy some tiny trousers and a jumper and name it Stuart.

I was expecting it to be there on the stair

Where on the stair?

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 23/08/2022 17:47

A little mouse with clogs on!

AlternativelyWired · 23/08/2022 17:48

A little mouse with clogs on going clip clippety clop on the stair

A little mouse with clogs on!

I do declare!

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 23/08/2022 17:51

We had one that ran into my MILs living room the other day in the middle of the day. It then ran and hid under the freezer so I'm afraid we put a trap down with peanut butter and it was dispatched over night. Yes I know it is not nice but neither is nice running around her kitchen at night poking and peeing everywhere!

Antarcticant · 23/08/2022 17:53

My parents' mouse problem was solved when they got a new cat, who has turned out to be a world-class mouser.

So so late 😂

ArticSaviour · 24/08/2022 15:37

To be honest, OP, you left yourself wide open to all of this when you moved to a windmill in Old Amsterdam

Maisa45 · 24/08/2022 15:55

Woopzies · 23/08/2022 13:35

Confused at the replies since obviously if it's on the patio the next stage is finding a hole to get into the house...

OP, I'd lay down some traps + poison around the exterior of the house, potentially some near openings and 'outside type' areas (e.g., pantry garden room etc etc) and you shouldn't have any issues.

What the fuck is wrong with you? Do you know what an agonizing death poison causes?

That made me snort. 🤣

@Woopzies humans carry far more diseases that could harm me and mine, but they still come into my house.

Noone wants to share with a mouse, but you don’t need to nuke them, humane traps and deterrents work just fine.

The field mice were there before the houses. We have invaded THEIR territory. It’s really sad how humans are unable to see that we must live side by side with our wildlife, which are all part of biodiversity and the food chain.

100%. Well said.

"Banged on the window" 😂

Zooeyzo · 29/08/2022 11:16

@JustSortYoursefOut I realise it wasn't effective. Bloody mouse kept coming back 😂
