I won't mention names. But this 'celeb' has 4.5 million followers.

Her latest post is as follows

'And our Utility Room is complete 🥲❤️ Those of you guys that have followed my crazy account since the start will know I've always dreamt of having a utility room... and never thought I'd ever have one but here she is? I still can't believe it! I get so excited to just come in here every evening, put a wash load on, fold clothes, hang up missing socks 😂 and stand on my Home Bargains step for absolutely no reason at all 😂'

I just think it's so distasteful since her following is largely accredited to a certain demographic, usually stay at home mums etc. many of which will feel so shit to see this. We can all control what we choose to click on but it just seems so irresponsible given her larger following and influence

Stop.

Just stop. Reading, and following.

So , they can unfollow and stop feeling shit.

We can all control what we choose to click on

This is what Instagram/social media is. People don’t have to look at it. I choose not to.

WTF475878237NC · 22/08/2022 10:47

But there are many people out there who won't feel shit about it. They'll think oh that's nice or mine is much bigger. She shouldn't have to censor her posts to the point of not saying about finishing a much dreamt of home improvement project. I do think it's up to people not to read them. Also, she has home bargain step. She's not exactly bragging about diamond encrusted door knobs is she?

VickyEadieofThigh · 22/08/2022 10:47

I agree with the others above.

But I really need to know who this is now.

Seeline · 22/08/2022 10:48

Presumably she has purchased all the fixtures and fittings from shops/online keeping people in jobs?
Presumably she has employed builders and other trades to get everything fitted and decorated etc keeping others in jobs?
The financial situation is impacting different people in different ways. She might be encouraging some followers to follow her ideas which will in turn keep others in jobs?
If people don't like others spending money, then they can stop following her?

sandpr · 22/08/2022 10:49

Also, she has home bargain step. She's not exactly bragging about diamond encrusted door knobs is she?

If I put a packet of Asda smart price pasta in my Range Rover, and brag about my overall car, does that still mean I'm not bragging? Same principle applies

I'm sorry this seems to make you feel shit but you are being wildly unreasonable for a few reasons!

Just because some people are struggling and will struggle this winter doesn't mean that everyone is, or that no one is allowed to mention anything that costs any money.

It's a utility room. I've seen a video of a wealthy young person taking delivery of a brand new Maserati and then smashing if with a baseball bat, as a show of wealth. THAT is horrible. A utility room is a great, useful room to have in a house, not a bonfire of tenners.

They don't mention the cost and they're not gloating, they are excited to use it for its purpose! They haven't said here is my utility room and I am soooooo much richer than you

It's social media, they need to create content for it and that's what they've done. If you don't like it, don't read it. If you can't be happy for them, don't be, but don't piss on their chips.

You won't get any taller by trampling on others.

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 22/08/2022 10:50

@VickyEadieofThigh it's got to be. Mrs Hinch. All that gushy 'I cant believe it you guys' and excitement about Home Bargains merch. Couldn't be anyone else.

sandpr · 22/08/2022 10:50

What's so funny about standing on a step, for no reason at all?

OP posts:
SavoirFlair · 22/08/2022 10:51

Can I ask a question @sandpr

why would someone automatically feel shit if they see someone else has a utility room?

Oddbutnotodd · 22/08/2022 10:51

Surely it’s Mrs H with the Home Bargains comment.

lickenchugget · 22/08/2022 10:52

Don’t follow these idiots. Follows and likes are how they get companies to grift them stuff and carry on.

If we all ignored them, the freebies would dry up.

SavoirFlair · 22/08/2022 10:52

Oddbutnotodd · 22/08/2022 10:51

Correct

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 22/08/2022 10:52

Not everyone is struggling financially, and those of us who aren't still want to see things like nice home renovations. You'll struggle being on social media if you think someone rich having a nice utility room is distasteful

sandpr · 22/08/2022 10:53

Again it isn't the utility room as such, just the way it's presented as 'our little journey and 'thank you all for sharing this journey with me'

I'm not hard up so I don't feel upset looking at these posts but due to her following, the (mostly women) will at large due to people about to go without food and the biggest cost of living crisis in years

The fact this woman has made a career out of telling other women how to clean is reason enough for everyone to stop caring what she does.

I haven't actually seen any cleaning in a very long time. Apart from a quick hoover

Life doesn’t stop because some people are having a hard time. It’s a room for washing your smalls, not a yacht.

RagingWoke · 22/08/2022 10:56

I'm assuming it's mrs hinch? I actively hide anything related to her anyway as I find her insufferable and it's infuriating how much she's made from complete bollocks (see also joe wicks, tired and tested, unmumsy mum and the like).

Most of these social media 'influencers' are just people bragging and are supposed to make their followers feel less than to encourage them to go and buy the sponsored shit the 'influencer' is pushing because that's how they make money. So yes, it's bad taste but it has been from the start.

Topgub · 22/08/2022 10:56

@sandpr

Why on earth are you watching anything she does?!

Thesearmsofmine · 22/08/2022 10:57

Obviously Mrs Hinch. I don’t enjoy her content and don’t particularly like her personality so I don’t follow her on social media. It’s very easy for people not to follow.

ShanghaiDiva · 22/08/2022 10:57

why would anyone feel ‘rubbish’ that x has a new utility room?
more importantly, who gets excited about folding washing…?

sandpr · 22/08/2022 10:58

She gets excited standing on a step. She said so just now!

You know sometimes people look at SM for escape and to just look at nice things or are genuinely happy "she'" got her utility room. I think you need to stop looking at her pages and leave people to decide what they want to look at.
