To think this is a bit off in times when people will be choosing between food and heating?

I won't mention names. But this 'celeb' has 4.5 million followers.

Her latest post is as follows

'And our Utility Room is complete 🥲❤️ Those of you guys that have followed my crazy account since the start will know I've always dreamt of having a utility room... and never thought I'd ever have one but here she is? I still can't believe it! I get so excited to just come in here every evening, put a wash load on, fold clothes, hang up missing socks 😂 and stand on my Home Bargains step for absolutely no reason at all 😂'

I just think it's so distasteful since her following is largely accredited to a certain demographic, usually stay at home mums etc. many of which will feel so shit to see this. We can all control what we choose to click on but it just seems so irresponsible given her larger following and influence

Why do you know so much about her? Stop looking at her SM.

KenAdams · 22/08/2022 11:00

I'm getting a bit sick of posts like this on MN. If people stop spending money the economy will be even more fucked.

This social media world where everyone thinks they can have everything they see on Insta isn't healthy. Honestly stop giving these people a platform, you will feel better for it.

AquaticSewingMachine · 22/08/2022 11:00

It's a utility room, not a twelve-car garage full of vintage Ferraris or a private jet.

Get a fucking grip.

RudsyFarmer · 22/08/2022 11:01

Look these people are earning a living selling a dream. Tis ever was thus. Just get away from it and live your own life. It’s the fastest way to sanity I promise you.

Pinkdelight3 · 22/08/2022 11:01

If people didn't like it, she wouldn't post it. Obviously it's utter bollocks but it's what her followers want and she's giving it to them. Presumably they want a bit of a lift and a distraction. In times when people are choosing between food and heating, do you think they want to look at miserable posts all day too?

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 22/08/2022 11:02

I think you don’t understand demographics (like doesn’t attract like, eg a housewife obsessed with cleaning and HB doesn’t necessarily attract people like her, her social media is designed to attract people who want to be more like her), and have an outdated sexist view of women and their role/earning potential. Are you projecting do you think? Why not go follow some survivalists, it might help you feel better.

SavoirFlair · 22/08/2022 11:02

Unreal @sandpr that your biggest gripe is that you didn’t like her phrasing “'our little journey and 'thank you all for sharing this journey with me”

I mean, she is a modern social media influencer and people of that ilk share things with their followers step by step.

you can not like the whole business model - fine - and the consumerism it engenders , but I don’t think this individual is the most egregious example

ObjectionHearsay · 22/08/2022 11:02

Meh as a lone parent on one income balancing the budget. I have to say I don't give a shit about someone's utility room 🤣 I've got other things to worry about.

But more than that, she is happy she has her utility room, let her be happy. I'm sure I'd be equally as happy if I had a brand new shiny utility room. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Jealousy will get you nowhere. She's happy, leave her be. She's allowed to be happy, even in this cost of living crisis.

Mrs Hinch isn't responsible for your own happiness.

VickyEadieofThigh · 22/08/2022 10:47

I agree with the others above.

But I really need to know who this is now.

I'd guess Mrs Hinch

Homemadearmy · 22/08/2022 11:05

@sandpr that you are offended on behalf of people on lower incomes is actually offensive. Who are you to judge.
I'm part of the demographic to that will be affected by the cost of living crisis. It's not actually a choice between heating and eating as food will always have a priory. Maybe a choice between the quality of food.
Strangely enough we have always been aware that other people can afford more. and I don't really care about what celebrities do. We aren't all the same and don't need your pity or you deciding to be offended.

balalake · 22/08/2022 11:05

If you able to respond to this person's social media, then just a simple 'please think of those who have to choose between eating and heating and all have some perspective' is an appropriate response.

It is always Mrs Hinch 🙄

TheYearOfSmallThings · 22/08/2022 11:08

Oh come on. She's not invading Ukraine here - it's a harmless boast.

Topgub · 22/08/2022 11:09

Also, people have always struggled between heating and eating.

Its not a new thing.

I don't care about a utility room.

I care about the utility companies and govt ripping us all off.

And the ever widening gap between rich and poor.

torquewench · 22/08/2022 11:10

I've always wanted a utility room 😪

HumourReplacementTherapy · 22/08/2022 11:10

Honestly. You need to just quit Instagram. It shows these perfect worlds which I'm sure when away from the camera lense are not always quite so perfect.
Some people have more money than others that's just how it is.
If you can't step away, unfollow the accounts that make you feel this way and follow more useful ones Smile

Mrsjayy · 22/08/2022 11:12

torquewench · 22/08/2022 11:10

I've always wanted a utility room 😪

Me too 😀

girlfriend44 · 22/08/2022 11:16

I don't follow anyone in the public eye on SM
Who cares what they get up too
Live your own.life.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 22/08/2022 11:19

You are unreasonable to follow anyone who gets excited about folding laundry.

I have negative disposable income and have had a for a while. I don’t have a utility room, but I certainly don’t begrudge anyone else one. I have issues with this sort of person, and with accumulating and flaunting of great wealth but not utility rooms!

Is it a bit tone deaf? Well, yes. But being a celebrity IS tone deaf. You literally take small amounts of money from many, many people who only have a little, hoard yourself a pile and show off about it to the very people you took it from. There’s degrees, of course, but that’s what they’re all doing, isn’t it?

Thatswhyimacat · 22/08/2022 11:23

I get more annoyed by people who claim to be struggling when they clearly have money. Good for them for having something that makes them happy, life isn't a zero sum game and her utility room isn't making you any worse off.

fufflecake · 22/08/2022 11:26

Blowing out someone else's candle won't make yours shine brighter.

Just get of Instagram if it bugs you, it's all people use it for, showing off their life.

fufflecake · 22/08/2022 11:26

Ps I don't like her sink

MassiveSalad22 · 22/08/2022 11:28

Again it isn't the utility room as such, just the way it's presented as 'our little journey and 'thank you all for sharing this journey with me‘

YANBU about that, this phraseology is barf-worthy, but mot sure how that’s boastful.

Loads of people aren’t struggling, they’re allowed to post what they want. I personally find the ‘people are struggling, I have no money, you can’t have nice things’ posts just as tiresome.
