What’s wrong with a loo brush?

Namingchangeschangingnames · 15/08/2022 20:58

Inspired by the MN sins thread. So many people are saying their loo brush is their greatest MN sin. As a fellow sinner, I need to know what’s wrong with a loo brush?

after used i pour more bleach on it and press flush and let the clean water run over it. I needs to know

I mean personally, I don't like the idea of a poo brush being sat in my bathrooms! No matter how much bleach went onto it I genuinely just imagine it sitting there, festering. Imagine that bleachy wet toilet soup at the bottom of the holder 🤮

IamnotSethRogan · 15/08/2022 21:07

It's a shitty stick that you keep in a corner in your bathroom.

Had one in a house we stayed in once. It took toddler DS wielding it like a sword for me to know I'd made the right decision not embracing them.

And while you say you always clean it properly blah blah could you guarantee everyone in your house would? I have no faith kids and DH wouldn't leave their dried on nuggets of shit festering for me to find.

Youdoyoutoday · 15/08/2022 21:12

FFS!! Nothing is wrong with them!!

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 15/08/2022 21:13

I have no idea, and no idea how people clean toilets without them 🤷🏼‍♀️

DimitriMendeleev · 15/08/2022 21:14

As long as you don't put it in the dishwasher 💁

sunglassesonthetable · 15/08/2022 21:14

show do you clean your loo @IamnotSethRogan

Genuinely. I hate mine too but how does it work otherwise?

If anyone else knows please dib in.

45hopperbunny · 15/08/2022 21:15

I’d really love for someone to tell me the answer to this.

Same as you OP. After every use it gets cleaned and there’s no issues. As soon as it looks a bit battered I get a new one but there’s never any shit on it or anything.

For those that have skid marks under the toilet water after using the toilet, what do you do if you have no brush? Just wait for someone to stumble across it or something?

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 15/08/2022 21:16

I don’t like a traditional bristle brush. But I love my silicon/rubber flat brushes. I drip dry mine after use by balancing them between rim and seat. By the time I’ve done the rest of the room- they’re dry.

Namingchangeschangingnames · 15/08/2022 21:19

For those who don’t have them.. how do you clean your toilet? I’m not just talking poo stains here, we live in a hard water area and if not regularly bleached and scrubbed you get deposits.

the very notion of a loo brush doesn’t exactly excite me and it’s a bit grim so I’m prepared to be converted to a better way of thinking… win me over

From what I can gather you don rubber gloves and stick your hand down the loo to clean it, or chuck loads of bleach down there (mega environmentally friendly), or just flush and flush and flush until the skid mark disappears (again great for the environment wasting all that water).

pastaandpesto · 15/08/2022 21:22

Bristle brushes are utterly, unspeakably disgusting.

Silicone brushes are absolutely fine.

LightDrizzle · 15/08/2022 21:22

I have IBS, which I hate. That means if I have a coffee or food in someone’s house I will almost certainly have to shit. I wish I didn’t. It’s like fucking tar, and in the absence of a brush, I resort to using loo paper and submerging my hand so as not to leave a trace in my friend’s loo. If there’s a bog brush and toilet cleaner in the room; toilet cleaner first, use the loo, flush, squirt with cleaner and use the brush, flush again holding brush under the water incoming.

Toilets are for pissing, shitting, and changing bloody tampons and pads. Not a delight to contemplate but praise the lord for Thomas Crapper and his flushing toilet.

Savvet · 15/08/2022 21:25

I think the people that hate them mustn't have discovered the silicone ones yet. Game changer.

Inthe90sitwas · 15/08/2022 21:26

They’re gross. But of course you have to have one! Say I’m a guest and I pop to the loo and it leaves marks - I wanna be able to sort that out myself, I don’t want my host to come in and see it later 😱

KangarooKenny · 15/08/2022 21:26

Nowt wrong with a bog brush !

ItWasJustifiedHeWasACunt · 15/08/2022 21:31

All bog brushes need to be superglued together and blasted into the stratosphere, they must then never EVER be seen, heard or mentioned again.

Tell me more please, why is silicone a ok? Does it clean better? More hygienic?

I admit I dont like them and dont have one

Any 'detritus' that is above the water line I wipe with toilet tissue, any below, I pour a little bit of toilet blue stuff down, wait 5 mins and flush again, Ive not known of it to remain after that

To clean the toilet you wouldnt use a loo brush anyway it takes much more that that, so a rough sponge (with green scourery bit) is used for the rim and above the water line, with cleaning fluid, then also scrub a bit under the water line. Gloves on of course

ShitPuffin · 15/08/2022 21:41

Absolutely nothing.

I dont use bleach personally but what would be the difference between doing that or not doing that but pouring bleach on the brush once its used to clean that after you've used it to scrape away bits?

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 15/08/2022 21:41

I love how people would rather put their hand down a toilet to clean it instead of a brush 😂

Janesmom · 15/08/2022 21:41

Bleach and biodegradable wipes here. As others said, hate the idea of a poo covered brush.

Littleguggi · 15/08/2022 21:43

They are gross! Why not just pour the bleach down the toilet bowl instead!?

XenoBitch · 15/08/2022 21:44

I am more baffled as to why people want to keep their toilet bowl germ free and sparkling. You are not eating out of it.

I read that toilets are the cleanest part of the house.

NoEffingWay · 15/08/2022 21:45

If I chuck bleach down the loo it doesn't get clean enough. I have a silicon bog brush and regularly empty any manky water away and clean the holder.

It's as clean as I can do it and I'm not sure rubber gloves with the dimples would be any cleaner?
