Has anyone seen the recent tweet about her pawning/selling three diamond engagement rings? Aibu to think if you are pleading poverty and asking the general public to donate money one week and then showing off pictures of three massive diamonds you own the next, it's never going to go down well? Especially when you are already being challenged on lying and grifting?

For a long time I thought JM was nothing but a force of a good but I can't understand how she can be so tone deaf. It can't be deliberate but equally how can she not realise how it looks to produce three huge rings just a week after claiming she's so skint she needs handouts.

Apologies if there's already a thread on this.

I don’t care about the minutiae of her personal life, but her performance poverty on Twitter is annoying as fuck. £20 shops and overflowing tears?? If buying smart price is key to her branding and understanding of audience, maybe. I’d buy that. But that’s not what she saying. She’s saying it’s a way of life which she’s simply compelled to do which is bollocks.

I understand she says she can't leave her current expensive rented home because of the contract terms, so she can't downsize. Leaving aside whether that's plausible, surely the answer there is to take in a lodger? It's a big house, isn't it?

JubileeTrifle · 17/08/2022 09:08

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g she rented this house with a partner who left 2 years ago. No one has a rental agreement that lasts years and years they can’t get out of. She has also said at various points that she’s on a rolling contract.
She has also said she needed to stay there for a stable home for her son, which he has with his dad. She’s bullshitting.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 17/08/2022 09:10

Yes, I'd heard that too. My point is, even if it was true about not being able to move, there are ways to mitigate that.

Clymene · 17/08/2022 09:12

She is moving somewhere else now which is why she's getting rid of stuff.

OneTC · 17/08/2022 09:12

Was she not skint for a long time before that though?

She went on the dole once for a couple of months

Having a charity that can afford to pay three figure salaries and is asking folk on minimum wage to set up a direct debit to contribute to that salary is a scam in my book. They almost always set up opposite the likes of b&m, pep, the pound shop, the 99p shop, poundstretchers, farmfoods etc in town. Very rarely do you see them set up outside marks or next or the fancy cafes or salons.

But they don't pretend to be poor and you can have a look at their income and spending

JubileeTrifle · 17/08/2022 09:37

She made a big performance a few months ago about not being allowed overnight guests apart from the odd night and the landlady lives opposite so would know. So basically saying she’s not allowed a lodger.
but then kept tweeting about her boyfriend being over all the time.

category12 · 17/08/2022 09:56

I find it all very confusing - 2 weeks ago she posted that she's not "poor" but she's going to end up sleeping on a sofabed in a one bedroom flat etc and she's seemingly desperately applying for all sorts of random jobs (such as train driver 🙄)

I mean debt and high rent etc can suck away income, so yeah, she may have money issues, but given her audience might be properly on the breadline, I think she's on dodgy moral ground.

Having a monetised site etc is fair enough, but the woe is me drama about her situation that's bound to make her fans give to her tipjar doesn't sit well.

It's nuanced, isn't it? She is generally voicing things that need to be said, but she's not beyond criticism.

EarringsandLipstick · 17/08/2022 10:03

Glanced at her Twitter feed today. It's awful to read - she's garnering attention by going back to her 'impoverished' days of a decade ago, with this new decluttering project, which she says will take 6 months, prior to moving to her tiny flat.

It's nauseating to read as it's clearly just her latest hook, and this is the kind of duplicity that should rightfully be called off. She's throwing her suite of diagnoses behind it as more evidence of how hard this is for her.

I am see why she does it as she gets so much praise, positive attention & support. She clearly depends on this for her own validation & will do whatever she can to maintain it - which involves new & different narratives to gain & keep interest.

Bubblebubblebah · 17/08/2022 10:12

I have ADHD to a point I NEED to set up alarms or I would forget I was cooking just by turning away for 30 seconds...
I hate when people utilise it as an excuse for everything (including being a twat) or the only interesting thing on them basically.

The squirrel jokes are quite accurate tho

Prompted by this thread, I looked at JM’s Twitter for the first time ever. Saw a pic she’d posted of an enormous shed which will apparently be a staging post for processing all the stuff she’ll be decluttering. When one of the followers mildly commented that it looked like a big shed (it’s huge) she said it was a deceptive estate agent’s-type camera angle Hmm

Then she said she doesn’t actually have a lot of stuff to declutter after all. Which does seem rather contradictory given she’s repeatedly calling it her ‘Heckin Big Declutter’.

lapasion · 17/08/2022 11:57

Surely you can’t buy that much crap and claim you can’t afford shower gel? Even if it’s all from the charity shop, that’s still a couple of quid per item at the very least. Plenty for a basic bottle of shampoo and a value shower gel.

category12 · 17/08/2022 12:04

She showed a picture of her kitchen with everything stored a while back - she's got a shit ton of stuff if that's anything to go by.

I know she's a cook but it gave me clutter-anxiety looking at it. She must spend a lot on containers!

I wonder what's in the cupboards of everything what would normally be there is on display?

Designer handbags.

Scianel · 17/08/2022 12:28

As someone with ASD/ADHD, that level of kitchen organisation would not be achievable for me. But we're all different I suppose.

As someone who loves neatness and is highly organised that would not be achieveable for me either; but then I have a job and two kids. If I had no job and one kid at weekends my house would be super tidy and I'd be on MN as much as Jack is on twitter

CarolynMartens · 17/08/2022 12:43

^ I think that’s also how she can do a £20 shop, because she has a lot of storecupboard stuff already.

latetothefisting · 17/08/2022 12:43

Utterly irrelevant but I found the abbreviation of SB to refer to her son (it stands for Small Boy) twee and cringey when he was actually a 4 year old but I believe he is now a teenager! I know there are character limits on twitter but "son" is only 1 extra letter!

It would for ohoto op. The level of perfect oragnisation and jars in perfect lines I can create when sending pics to my mum.....😂

I lerned drawers are the best for me. Each drawer has certain stuff in it and it doesn't have to be tody. As long as I know tins are in x drawer and spices in Y. Much better than cupboards ime

Nobody is perfect but I’m sick of the threads on here criticising Jack. They mostly chew over the same ground over and over again. There’s clearly a vendetta against her on Mumsnet. I wonder why some people are so desperate to discredit her. She’s been consistently campaigning about food poverty for years and has done a great deal of good. She’s on the side of the angels. Leave her alone.

You can fool some of the people all of the time 🙄

entropynow · 17/08/2022 13:00

FitAt50 · 15/08/2022 07:49

What a strange world you must live in if you think she is "a disgusting human being". She is raising lots of money and awareness of food poverty. I have nothing but respect for her.

Then you haven't been paying attention. She lies and begs for money from poor people whilst wasting thousands and you have 'nothing but respect '?
Hmmmnmnmnnnnn.

entropynow · 17/08/2022 13:17

perimenofertility · 15/08/2022 08:39

I have two inherited family engagement rings. I'd beg complete strangers for money or food before I sold them because the sentimental value is so much more than the financial value.
I don't know much detail about Jack's life, I don't really pay much attention to her.
What I do know is the British public seem to enjoy applauding someone for a short while, then circling them like vultures ready to pull them down.

Behold her target audience, people who put sentiment on a pedestal and love a good victim narrative.
Fool you once...
