Feels like the apocalypse

Is just me or does it just feel like the bloody end of the world at the moment..

ridiculous heat
water shortages
food shortages
Collapsing government
cost of living
energy prices
impending recession
staff shortgages
risk of fires

We are only just getting over a world wide pandemic- i haven't forgotten that yet....

If I didn't have kids then I would be looking for the nearest tall building.

I feel like this too. I'm sure lots of posters will be along soon offering grips and making comparisons to previous difficult times, but this feels different. It doesn't seem like there's a solution to lots of the problems, and they're going to have knock-on effects on other things. I'm really frightened.

housinghero · 12/08/2022 11:59

Being 'a certain age' i can remember other recessions - my hubby works in construction so he has lost his job a far few times due to recession.
But it all feels soo much.

The government isn't collapsing. There's a change of leader, so no likelihood of anarchy yet. I've seen no food shortages at all, so some supermarkets obviously manage to stock up successfully.

housinghero · 12/08/2022 12:01

you don't go to the same supermarkets as me then - clearly Waitrose has no supply chain issues....
And as for strikes.... I think the general feeling of the entire nation is we are all just pi$$ed off!

There will be riots if Rishi gets in

OP posts:
AnonyMousely · 12/08/2022 12:03

Yep, same. Things look pretty shitty right now.

RainyDays22 · 12/08/2022 12:03

Government isn't collapsing, they simply do not care about the people who vote them in. There is a difference.

Totally agree with this. Stop being a drama queen.

RainyDays22 · 12/08/2022 12:04

But yes, I'm kind of expecting a earthquake and red lighting to pop out of the ground when Rishi gets into power. Grin

Why? Who will start the riots?

I was thinking just a plague of locusts, but you could be right.

No, not me. Not you either, obviously.

DrShepsBall · 12/08/2022 12:08

Riots! I tell ya! 😱

Staff shortages = apocalypse 😅😂

What food shortages?

YABU. HTH.

BEAM123 · 12/08/2022 12:08

It's way too hot to riot

Deguster · 12/08/2022 12:08

You’re all obviously far too young to remember the 3 day week! There’s something to smile about.

crackin ......
So the build up to the 'change in leadership' when virtually half the cabinet resigned wasn't an indication then ..
Maybe need to stop reading the Daily Mail

And there's still a war on.

Yes...it does feel a bit end of days. I'm watching the news about Trump's alleged nuclear secrets and think that things could get almost civil war crazy over there if he goes to prison.
Meanwhile the economy is on the verge of collapse and our gang of entitled million/billionaires don't give a toss.

DrShepsBall · 12/08/2022 12:10

crackin, Aint got

Are you from the US or the east end op?

RelationshipOrNot · 12/08/2022 12:10

I notice the people being dismissive haven't mentioned the energy prices or rising food prices. I am so scared about what it's going to be like in winter for elderly people, people on low incomes, anyone already struggling. "I'm alright Jack" is such a cruel attitude to have.

Palmfrond · 12/08/2022 12:11

I’m sat in the garden drinking pimms, smoking the skunk I confiscated from my teenager and reading the Book of Revelation.
I’m quite exited about it tbh.

Oh I remember the 70's and the 90's and the 2008's
I remember all of that
Cant wait ....

I feel very anxious at the moment, I have a 2yo and a newborn and the world feels very scary. My solution is to pretend the rest of the world doesn’t exist and hermit away with the kids. It’s not that I’m not politically engaged (I have a degree in it!) - but right now I can’t do anything to change it, so I’m hiding away with my babies and hoping wiser heads prevail.

I think there's a difference between being rightly concerned about rising energy and food prices, and using terms such as "apocalypse".

I'm going pillaging in Waitrose
