Feels like the apocalypse

Is just me or does it just feel like the bloody end of the world at the moment..

ridiculous heat
water shortages
food shortages
Collapsing government
cost of living
energy prices
impending recession
staff shortgages
risk of fires

We are only just getting over a world wide pandemic- i haven't forgotten that yet....

If I didn't have kids then I would be looking for the nearest tall building.

I've said exactly the same to my DS just now!
I'm 57 so lived through the droughts, power cuts and strikes of the 70's
There's a definite air of unease at the moment and there isn't an easy solution for us mere mortals

Mojoj · 12/08/2022 12:47

I'm blaming the English. You lot keep voting for the bloody Tories. There.....some petrol on the flames🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I’m sat in the garden drinking pimms, smoking the skunk I confiscated from my teenager and reading the Book of Revelation.
I’m quite exited about it tbh.

I think I love you 😂

housinghero · 12/08/2022 12:55

Its actually my job to worry about peoples housing ( add that to the apolocalyse)
Going to be lots of homeless , hungry people.
Homelessness isn't just about alcoholics on the street...

And I didnt vote for no fu%king Tories.....
or Brexit
And i am a key worker so no furlough for me

When I have finished trying to house my clients I am going to drink myself to oblivion

There better not be an apocalypse, I've just had my bathroom re-done

Well contrariwise, mine needs redoing, and I might be able to claim something on insurance, so bring it on.

feellikeanalien · 12/08/2022 13:04

Imagine if there had been social media in the 1970s!!😄

maddiemookins16mum · 12/08/2022 13:04

Meanwhile back in the real world……..people are enjoying the good weather and making reasonable adjustments.
YABU for a ridiculously exaggerated heading.

Horoscopegubbins · 12/08/2022 13:08

I can manage everything except this weather. The sun can fuck off.

There will be riots if Rishi gets in

Daily Mail hack alert.

GettingStuffed · 12/08/2022 13:09

DH went to Waitrose yesterday and they were clearing out chilled food at stupid prices.

DixonD · 12/08/2022 13:15

There are no food shortages.

Most of your list is connected to the same issue. They are all symptoms of one problem.

Cheminaufaules · 12/08/2022 13:17

It's the butterfly effect and it's entirely understandable. The rise and fall of civilizations shows that the fate of any ordered system is disorder.

Keep calm and carry on and enjoy it a la @Palmfrond (although would prefer not to sniff the skunk smell at the end times, frankly).

It’s quite clear why this is. We have news shoved at us 24 hours a day, not like in the old days where you had to wait to watch it on the TV at certain times of the day.

We do not have the chance to put it to the back of our minds.

There is some good news - NHS waiting list being cut dramatically is one.

mumda · 12/08/2022 13:21

Worldwide Famine - because of drought, fire, flooding, lack of workers for planting and harvesting, war in Ukraine(will impact on what will be planted this year/next), fuel prices impacting on fertiliser production (and much of that being done in Russia)

War - Tons of it everywhere and things not improved. Taiwan/Pelosi. Ukraine.

Plagues - Monkeypox, Covid, Polio, Bound to be more on the horizon due to movement of people.

Nuclear danger - this power station in Ukraine is a disaster about to happen.

Fuel prices mean us in the cold winter part of the world will really suffer.

Worldwide crisis levels increase across the rest of the globe will mean further huge migration.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 12/08/2022 13:22

Seen it all before. Just more history being created.

I’m not sure where you’ve got the cut in NHS waiting times from? They are worse than they have ever been.

I’m with you OP, and I think those who say that they have not seen any food shortages are missing the point. The ongoing war in Ukraine together with climate change and severe droughts across many countries I think means that we haven’t even seen the start of it yet.

BitOutOfPractice · 12/08/2022 13:27

Why? Who will start the riots?

Liz Truss presumably! 😂

There will not be riots @housinghero

2nd law of thermodynamics, baby!

And worry not, the skunky smell will be soon be replaced by the smell of freshly looted focaccia being toasted for that perfect pan con tomate!

MunchMunch · 12/08/2022 13:29

Tbh while it's lovely and sunny and warm in my neck of the woods (not down south so no water ban extreme heat etc) food seems to be ok - a few things missing but not enough to worry about, my gas and electric costs aren't too crazy at the minute so I feel ok but come the autumn/winter when the cold dark nights set in at 4pm and I'm feeling depressed and cold I think that's when it'll hit me like a lot of others.
I've wondered what Christmas will look like in terms of all the Christmas lights in gardens and all over the house that seems to have become really popular round my way, can anyone afford the extra electric? I'm not even going to worry about presents and spending the amount of money I usually would as my dc are now older so can understand that money could be tight.

Liz Truss presumably!

The woman can't find her way out of a room never mind organise a riot.

ClinkeyMonkey · 12/08/2022 13:41

I lived through the seventies with food shortages (1-2 hour queues for bread), power blackouts, strikes, bus routes shut down at a moment's notice, riots AND bombs (Belfast). I'm still alive and appreciate it even more because I know there are many who aren't. Just keep on keeping on.

housinghero · 12/08/2022 12:02

There will be riots if Rishi gets in

I think there might be riots no matter who gets in!! I predict this will be the last Tory government for a while. I don’t know a single person who will vote for them again

Minfilia · 12/08/2022 13:48

Most of the things you describe are just…. Summer.

Some of the things just aren’t happening - there are no food shortages and the government isn’t collapsing.

The only valid point is the cost of living, and that isn’t even vaguely apocalyptic.
