Is just me or does it just feel like the bloody end of the world at the moment..

ridiculous heat
water shortages
food shortages
Collapsing government
cost of living
energy prices
impending recession
staff shortgages
risk of fires

We are only just getting over a world wide pandemic- i haven't forgotten that yet....

If I didn't have kids then I would be looking for the nearest tall building.

🤣

cheekychatta · 13/08/2022 16:54

Life goes on . This too will pass .

middleager · 13/08/2022 17:40

I voted YABU. I'm thinking about a quote from Stephen King's 112263 that talks about every generation who faced a crisis thinking this is the end, and that when you're in the middle of it all, you can't see beyond that point, so it feels like doom and gloom. I'll try to dig it out.

OMG12 · 13/08/2022 17:55

Meh, happens every few years and on a bigger scale every few decades. People are naive if the think life just keeps getting better and better. Learn to ride the waves a bit, it’s happened multiple times before and will keep happening because we don’t learn and just keep tinkering

chatterbug22 · 14/08/2022 00:02

Yeah, it’s tough right now. But tbh it was tough two years ago. And tough 14 years ago. It comes in waves, apparently. We will learn to deal with problems as they happen we could just do with a stronger leadership at the minute!

antelopevalley · 14/08/2022 01:20

I think the climate crisis is adding a new element we have not faced before.
We are going to get more flooding, wildfires, extreme weather, water shortages, and high food prices.

TartanGirl1 · 14/08/2022 01:23

I don't think the government is collapsing but I wish people would wake up to the realities of a conservative government!

onlythreenow · 14/08/2022 02:44

Some of the things you mention OP aren't happening in other parts of the world - so why on earth would you think "the end of the world" is coming? I'm enjoying a gorgeous sunny winter afternoon and rejoicing that spring is on the way.

HintofVintagePink · 14/08/2022 03:01

3 day weeks and Cuban Missile crisis anyone?

ridiculous heat/risk of fires/water shortages = one issue which isn’t permanent

food shortages = really?!! check your privilege. Lack of choice is not the same as shortage

Collapsing government = no, changing government

cost of living/energy prices/impending recession/staff shortages = again, all linked. yes, this one is scary but it’s not apocalyptic

Stop being so dramatic and scare mongering

Geppili · 14/08/2022 23:58

It all went to shit after David Bowie died.

Cornettoninja · 15/08/2022 13:15

I’m blaming the large hadron collider @Geppili

Maireas · 12/08/2022 12:04

Why? Who will start the riots?

I will! despicable man.

preservesandreserves · 15/08/2022 14:01

I know its not easy ot helpful but if you can get a waterbutt and start a veg garden/ plant fruit trees/ get into some sort of start of self sufficiency then it may help with anxiety. It's certainly helped me. I have spent a ridiculous amount of time worrying about things I can't change (climate change is a main one) and now I've started helping myself it feels a bit less scary.
I started when I still lived in a tiny flat with no outdoor space and it eased my feelings of doom and dread significantly. I know it sounds a bit poncy but at least i can control how many blackberries i can pick. At least I know I can give my children apples every day for 4 months of the year because I found some trees and planted some more.

I'd definitely recommend looking into forraging or growing your own, harvesting water and the like. Especially if you have children and are worried for their future.

Thinkingblonde · 15/08/2022 16:44

Fuck,, I’d forgotten about the Cuban Missile crisis.

sjxoxo · 16/08/2022 03:50

I thought in the UK we had finally ‘taken back control’ and now we can relax and have our cake & eat it in peace 😂
It is a worrying time, but the world will keep turning.

Climate change is a serious serious issue we are contending with. A nuclear war also pretty disastrous but we aren’t there yet and whilst it’s technically possible it’s unlikely. Try and enjoy things & turn the news off! Maybe we should make a positive news site 😂 x
