To be sick of the heat now?

I live in the South and it's been stupidly hot here for what feels like months. Just seen the weather forecast for the week and it's going to be mid 30s again. I hate it so much! I feel really unwell in that kind of heat. It's impossible to sleep and it makes the kids crazy. AIBU to be wishing for Autumn?

I'm with you - 28 weeks pregnant and I'm just over being hot and uncomfortable all the time. Bring on Autumn I say!

Youngatheart00 · 08/08/2022 18:14

I’m in two minds - I love a ‘proper’ summer but I agree getting a good nights sleep is a challenge. And I find dark nights depressing vs loving sunny evenings.

When it was 35 degrees plus that was a struggle though as British homes just not set up for extremes of weather!!!

Blue4YOU · 08/08/2022 18:15

I’m with you. Garden is fried. Child mega irritable. Roll on cold days!!!

Mamamia7962 · 08/08/2022 18:16

YABU but in the nicest possible way. We are so used to having awful summers in this country that when we get a decent summer we find it difficult to cope.

BunnyHopDance · 08/08/2022 18:17

The majority of the year is cold and miserable so you can live with the heat temporarily.

HandbagAtDawn · 08/08/2022 18:18

My garden is literally straw and dust. It's so bleak. I'm all for sunshine and light evenings but it's about ten degrees too hot. I really feel for you being pregnant MrsSam! I was pregnant during the last heatwave and it was not fun.

Too right. My MS is starting to flare up. Prolonged heat always sets it off.

Wearefoooked22 · 08/08/2022 18:20

Move up north!..today is the first hot day in weeks!…we had rain for days.

elm26 · 08/08/2022 18:20

I love the sun, holidays where I can lay on a beach or by the pool etc @HandbagAtDawn but even I'm struggling with it, as a sun worshipper.

I don't enjoy the dark mornings and evenings of autumn/winter but these past 5/6 weeks have had me dreaming of them!

I'm so tired constantly, garden is fried, dog is going mad as can only take him out in the evening when it's cooler.

Fan only blows around warm air and there is spiders galore 😖

Both extremes are shit. It’s not hypocritical to acknowledge the obvious.

Soulstirring · 08/08/2022 18:23

The heat wave was hot hot, agreed. The rest is summer?

DoubleGauze · 08/08/2022 18:26

Yanbu op. My youngest is a rubbish sleeper and very heat sensitive as part of his autism and he will not be tricked into sleeping before it's dark! He then wakes at 3am. These days just feel long and miserable to me.

TheLostNights · 08/08/2022 18:29

Could have written this post myself.
I live in London and it's still 29C at this time. I am completely fed up. Sick of feeling sweaty and uncomfortable, not sleeping, working in it etc. Someone told me I need to try and enjoy it earlier and I really had to contain my temper. It's been going on for weeks and weeks and is absolutely hellish

South central coast we didn't even get a heatwave.

It was about 30° and it's going to be that again this week.

But we normally get those temps in July.

The difference is we are also actually having a summer in august this year too!

The rest of the year being rather chilly is in fact the main reason why living with the heat temporarily is such a struggle for many in the UK. Not being used to it.

NightOwl101 · 08/08/2022 18:31

I use to be all about the sun but now I've had enough, I'm ready for autumn and darker nights, cardigans, hot choc and a decent night sleep!

georgarina · 08/08/2022 18:32

I hate it 😩
I'm pregnant and feeling ill anyway and the heat is so awful

bruce43mydog · 08/08/2022 18:33

Enjoy the lovely weather while you can. It'll soon be cold. I love all the seasons for diffrent reasons. I dont think i would like it hot 24/7 all year round though.

TheLostNights · 08/08/2022 18:35

In the south east and London, we have had hot weather for months. Only really a few weeks back in Jan/Feb when it was bitterly cold. Definitely been an incredibly warm year.
Everytime I hope for it to cool down, it comes up as super high temperatures again. It makes me feels so irritable and unwell

CurbsideProphet · 08/08/2022 18:41

I'm not sure why people often drone on about how we never get "nice" weather when May / June are often warm and sunny. I'm 30 weeks pregnant and can't be bothered with working at my computer for 7 hours a day when it's this humid and I've not slept for the overnight temperatures 😴

Send the heat north of the border please ☺️ I’ll gladly take it.

QueSyrahSyrah · 08/08/2022 18:45

YABU, I love love love being able to leave the house for the day without being encumbered with a jacket and be confident that I won't be cold.

I'll add that I live by the coast though, so there's almost always a breeze.

Tigofigo · 08/08/2022 18:46

I'm not so keen on the heat, but I absolutely love it being sunny for so long. It's doing wonders for my wellbeing.
