To be sick of the heat now?

I live in the South and it's been stupidly hot here for what feels like months. Just seen the weather forecast for the week and it's going to be mid 30s again. I hate it so much! I feel really unwell in that kind of heat. It's impossible to sleep and it makes the kids crazy. AIBU to be wishing for Autumn?

Don't live in the SE. I've just had 2 weeks in Scotland, it was dry and sunny but only in the upper teens the whole time.

FangsForTheMemory · 08/08/2022 18:48

It's the lack of rain that gets to me. My garden's like a dustbowl.

Too right. My MS is starting to flare up. Prolonged heat always sets it off.

I’m so sorry and I’m right there with you (vasculitis flare, instead of MS). Finally did the math on why my health has been such shite, weather-wise. My disease flares terribly in the heat. Out of the last 81 days where I am, only 18 have been below 28 degrees and only 45/81 have been below 32 degrees (Geneva, Switzerland). These hear waves are a fucking nightmare. Some sun and heat, sure, fine. Endless sun and heat? It’s called a heat emergency and drought, not a “nice summer,” for whoever said upthread, “Oh, you just can’t cope with a nice summer.” They can shove their nice summer where the burning sun doesn’t shine, bunch of twatwaffles (I’m in a LOT of pain, admittedly).

PeppaPigIsAnnoying · 08/08/2022 18:51

I'm looking forward to Monday

GoodnightRain · 08/08/2022 18:54

I'm so with you. There is a small window in Spring and Autumn when the weather is acceptable and the rest is 💩.

Janesdufflecoat · 08/08/2022 18:55

I went out with my girlfriends last week, no one had a coat, we had a drink sat outside one place & then went & had dinner sat outside another, it was absolute bliss!

Covid has meant some places have great outdoor spaces & I really enjoy making the most of it, so on the whole I'm enjoying it!

I am not enjoying my fried garden which is looking very sad!

garlictwist · 08/08/2022 18:55

Ha ha. What heat? It's pissed it down for ages up north. I had my gloves and hat back on at the weekend.

Emmaaa1990 · 08/08/2022 18:57

Omg me too! Usually it gets broken up with rain and we haven't had rain for weeks! I'm also south and it's driving me nuts. I'm not a lover of heat anyway but usually manage fine but this is on another level it just keeps going 😩😩 it's hard cos you don't wanna moan but as someone else said we just aren't used to it 🙈

Yousee · 08/08/2022 18:58

I much prefer the spring, everything is new and green, days are lengthening, sunny days maybe hit the low 20s with a nice little breeze to take the edge off = perfection.
I won't be told by anyone that I must enjoy and appreciate the current conditions..I'm as built to cope with it as the average British house IE. Not at all.
Bring on the fresh, crisp autumn mornings!

LilacPoppy · 08/08/2022 18:58

Don't be so wet it's called summer , the hottest it's getting here is 34 on Friday so hot it's not like it's 40 plus. And I am 7 months pregnant. Seasons are normal.

girlfrien · 08/08/2022 18:59

Love it. Love it.

FourChimneys · 08/08/2022 19:02

Fed up with trying to keep the garden alive with a hosepipe ban. I

Fed up of it being too hot to do anything enjoyable outdoors for several hours each day.

Fed up of being so hot. I have a condition which makes me less able to tolerate this weather. Teenage me would have loved it though.

mum11970 · 08/08/2022 19:03

Nope, quite happy with warm weather. I’m on the coast in Wales and we’ve had plenty of rain and temperatures in the late teens of late. No chance of a hose pipe ban here! I’m happy it’s actually gone in to the 20s today.
I remember summers always being warm when I was a child, we used to spend all summer on the beach and then about 25 years it seemed to become cold and grey all year round. I’m keeping my fingers crossed we go back to having proper seasons.

TheLostNights · 08/08/2022 19:04

Sorry but no. It isn't being 'wet' to not enjoy feeling constantly ill, having to change clothes multiple times a day, washing machine constantly on to clean clothes, no sleep, irritable kids, flare up of DH's illnesses excaberated by the heat. I'm fed up of being told to enjoy it or to just get on with it.

Spudina · 08/08/2022 19:06

I’m loving every single minute of it and soaking it all up. I worry about climate change a lot. But even on that crazy 40 degree day, as much I as worried, I also thought.....I bloody love this!

Echobelly · 08/08/2022 19:06

Yeah, a couple of weeks of mid 20s is lovely, but once it gets over 30 I'm just uncomfortable and it makes going abroad somewhere hot a bit less exciting.

fyn · 08/08/2022 19:08

I cannot wait for the autumn. I waddled about pregnant outside today whilst running a youth project. It was 31 and absolutely horrific. It’s supposed to be like it for the rest of the week, despite having the blinds and windows closed all day apart from 6am this morning, my toddlers room is currently 27 on the baby monitor. It’s extremely unpleasant!

Riapia · 08/08/2022 19:10

If you can’t stand the heat get out of Hitchin.

Old English saying.

scorpiogirly · 08/08/2022 19:10

Nope, I can't wait for the winter.

devildeepbluesea · 08/08/2022 19:12

I am loving the heat. Just loving it.

TreesAtSea · 08/08/2022 19:14

Agree and disagree. Agree about the heat here in the south, but I'm not longing for autumn, although it's a beautiful season. I just want this summer to be more like they used to be....

mintlimerum · 08/08/2022 19:15

Currently in the Caribbean and it's around 30C but air con everywhere so it's fine. When we get back to London later this week it will be 35C and no air con. Never thought I'd want to stay in the Caribbean to stay cool!

I do miss a normal English summer.

remember the Downton scene ..

<walking in London park>
Lady Rosamund : There's nothing like an English summer
Lady Mary : Except an English winter.

okay, I laughed, but now I keep wondering where our English summer is!

BryanAdamsLeftAnkle · 08/08/2022 19:18

Cold in Scotland. A few hot days but lots of rain and overcast days. I'm hoping for heat before autumn kicks in

ouch321 · 08/08/2022 19:18

Never been a sun worshipper.

Love warm weather up to say 25 degrees but above that is simply unpleasant.

Still cannot find rain in London lomg term forecast.

Detest people who say "Enjoy the lovely weather while it's here" etc because that assumes everyone else finds being hot and sweaty enjoyable.

Can you imagine the reaction if in January we described -5 degrees as lovely and told people to enjoy it while it lasts....
