To be sick of the heat now?

I live in the South and it's been stupidly hot here for what feels like months. Just seen the weather forecast for the week and it's going to be mid 30s again. I hate it so much! I feel really unwell in that kind of heat. It's impossible to sleep and it makes the kids crazy. AIBU to be wishing for Autumn?

I'm absolutely loving it. Sorry to those who aren't though. I hate the cold and this weather is perfect for me. Like a pp I live on the coast though so have breeze and the sea.

AtwilightRebellion · 08/08/2022 19:26

Can't you just enjoy the summer while knowing there is a long difficult winter ahead.

It never lasts long fgs.

I can never understand the UK heat bores. A Rainy cold summer in the UK is miserable. Deprives kids of happy summer holiday times too.

How can you all be so curmudgeonly about such temporary weather...

EmmaH2022 · 08/08/2022 19:32

AtwilightRebellion

are you in a place that's been hot for weeks? Went to a garden with mum yesterday, straw underfoot. No roses. No water in the ponds.

great username btw.

garlictwist · 08/08/2022 18:55

Ha ha. What heat? It's pissed it down for ages up north. I had my gloves and hat back on at the weekend.

I have to go north for one night for work and I am SO EXCITED.

CandidaAlbicans2 · 08/08/2022 19:44

I've got a bit if a love/hate feeling about it. The heat suits me as I feel the cold, so it's lovely to feel warm enough to have bare arms and legs! But I'm finding it a bit frustrating as it's a bit too hot and the UV is too high for me to spend any decent time doing gardening. Then again, the garden looks dead now anyway 🙄Plus I worry a bit about wild fires and how wildlife is finding water, so the sun and heat I'm generally OK with but the lack of rain I don't like so much. Can't we have some of that at night?

EmmaH2022 · 08/08/2022 19:46

Speaking of bare arms and legs....I am looking forward to seeing less of people, especially on the Tube.

my best friend thinks men should be banned from showing their feet 😂

YingMei · 08/08/2022 19:55

I absolutely love it, it's so nice to have a decent summer. I can barely stand the misery and cold of winter - which is a certainty- so I'm enjoying it now

HandbagAtDawn · 08/08/2022 21:14

It’s not lovely though. Clear blue skies and 25 degrees is lovely. This 36/7/8 degrees feels oppressive and scary.

My garden is a barren dust bowl. The trees where I am have all shed their leaves to conserve water and the ones still on the branches are looking brown and shrivelled.

There used to be a duck pond by the library but it’s utterly dried up at the moment.

When the air temperature is so close to your natural body temperature it’s so easy to over heat and become really ill.

The upstairs of my house is like an oven, even with the blinds and windows closed all day. Opening the windows does fuck all.

There’s nothing nice about heat this hot imo. You can’t function normally.

Here we go again. It’s not even a week. Geez!

NeverHadANickname · 08/08/2022 21:17

I really think more people in the UK will start getting air conditioning units. The high temperatures are happening more and the nights must be really unpleasant.

mum11970 · 08/08/2022 21:19

ouch321 · 08/08/2022 19:18

Never been a sun worshipper.

Love warm weather up to say 25 degrees but above that is simply unpleasant.

Still cannot find rain in London lomg term forecast.

Detest people who say "Enjoy the lovely weather while it's here" etc because that assumes everyone else finds being hot and sweaty enjoyable.

Can you imagine the reaction if in January we described -5 degrees as lovely and told people to enjoy it while it lasts....

In the same way most of us who are sitting inside with our jumpers on whilst it’s throwing it down with rain outside detest you saying ‘It’s too hot” and non stop moaning on the news about the heat in London and how we’re going to run out of water.

Bringon2023 · 08/08/2022 21:48

I agree with you OP. I've lived in a hot country so it's not that I can't cope. But I'm pregnant currently so already my body temperature feels hotter than normal plus the constant sicky feeling! I'm getting rounder so none of my summer clothes fit the same and I feel gross but there's no point buying anything new.
I'm also genuinely concerned about global warming (I was even before the heatwave) and the droughts in the south. People won't be so cheery if this goes on until the middle of September and their water supply gets cut off. And it's just idiotic to install air conditioning units everywhere - we need to be using less energy not more!

PandoraRocks · 08/08/2022 21:54

I feel sorry for all you poor buggers sweltering in the South East but here in S.Wales I'm loving the weather. 😁
We had about 4 days of rain after the last heatwave and cooler misty weather for a week.

It was the driest July for 100 years in Wales and I will admit I hated the heatwave weekend when it touched 35 degrees. But I love the long light evenings and leaving the house not even needing a cardigan.
We're at the start of another heatwave and it was 29 today. That's hot enough for me. Luckily, there's still greenery around though the reservoirs are low.

BunnyHopDance · 08/08/2022 21:58

It’s not lovely though.

It’s not lovely to you. It’s perfectly lovely to me and of course you can function normally. Don’t be so dramatic.

Blueberrywitch · 08/08/2022 22:00

Totally agree. This isn’t a proper summer we should celebrate, it’s a horrible drought and all the plants are dying. In a “proper summer” you can sit on the grass and enjoy an afternoon in the sunshine - parks around us are basically empty in the weekends because it’s so unpleasant and dusty and sad to see all the grass be dead!

Nanalisa60 · 08/08/2022 22:10

Love it, just think how stressful it will be when it cold and dark worrying about the electric and gas bills, much happier when I’m hot then bloody cold.

Yika · 08/08/2022 22:14

This is not a ‘decent summer’, it’s extreme, abnormal heat and drought and the sign of worse to come. Very alarming.

TheLostNights · 08/08/2022 22:24

If you're in the south east or London it is unbearable. No rain for god knows how long, temps not going below 24C in again, I don't know how long. Predicted mid thirties for mid week and this will continue into next week. Temp was 29C at 6PM this evening. All of this is not normal summer weather. Garden looks horrific as does everyone's. It hasnt just been a few days either, it has been relentless stifling heat. I want to say that I hope this is the last of it after this spell but that's probably wishful thinking.

PinkiOcelot · 08/08/2022 22:27

What heat?! Move up here and you’ll be fine.

SleeplessInEngland · 08/08/2022 22:33

Having to wear a jumper is better than it being so hot you can’t sleep. In fact it’s barely comparable.

SleeplessInEngland · 08/08/2022 22:37

Can't you just enjoy the summer while knowing there is a long difficult winter ahead

Why do people say inane things like this? Why would anyone enjoy discomfort? It doesn’t magically become pleasant just because winter is a drag too.

SoupDragon · 08/08/2022 22:39

Can you imagine the reaction if in January we described -5 degrees as lovely and told people to enjoy it while it lasts....

MN is full of people relishing the foul winter weather and going on about cosy blankets and hot chocolate 😂😂

latteontherocks · 08/08/2022 22:41

FTM here with a 10 week old, absolutely not enjoying the weather here in Wales, it's giving me anxiety with the baby, is he too hot/too cold/just right etc

MadisonAvenue · 08/08/2022 22:43

I hate it, and my itchy hayfever eyes have flared back up again today so I’ve felt quite miserable.

At least when it’s cold you can warm up with jumpers etc, when it’s gets too hot nothing very much helps.
