I left a very abusive marriage a few months ago went through the council who offered me emergency accommodation which I accepted and was eventually offered permanent housing and some basic furniture etc for which I’m so grateful for,I have a little problem Though I have 5 children and tbh they haven’t got much as everything got left behind so I made a post on Facebook which I have now deleted asking if anyone can donate clothes or toys or bedding etc and sent a few photos so people could see I was genuine I received so much abuse calling me a scrounger a bad mom at tramp and beg etc I was so upset I’m a good mom I always put my kids first but I’m just going through hard times at the moment I’m quite a sensitive person and this has really upset me and I feel like shit tbh 😥aibu to be so upset I will post the picture of my sons room on face book Please no nasty comments 🙏

Bless you 💐
there must be charities local to you/a church that could help? I know for sure that if you were local to me, there would be a flood of donations.

HippPippy · 06/08/2022 09:50

oh that’s horrible- people (in general) are just such unpleasant beings. Try to ignore. If I was near you I would definitely help you. I hope things get better for you x

Ishacoco · 06/08/2022 09:50

That is very upsetting 😞
You've done nothing wrong by reaching out for help, in fact I think that's quite brave of you. Please ignore the nasty people and continue asking for help for your children.

Notimeforaname · 06/08/2022 09:50

You may be genuine but many are not.

I understand people reservations, they did not need to call you names, how mean.

I'm sorry you're having a tough time op.

Look on the pages that are already marked "free" or speak directly to charities rather than the general public. Good luck

CrapBag39 · 06/08/2022 09:51

Usually things like this get such a positive response in my area. Have tried specifically posting on your local freebie fb pages? Free cycle etc? Ignore the nasty stuff. It’s not worth your time.

NotSorry · 06/08/2022 09:52

I’m so tired of hearing about abuse people receive over the internet. So sorry OP YANBU

Badgirlriri · 06/08/2022 09:54

@Notimeforaname your right a lot of people are not genuine it’s sad because no one wants to help any more

Hm2020 · 06/08/2022 09:58

That’s awful there is an app called olio people give away furniture unopened food and kids stuff all free.

KarmaComma · 06/08/2022 09:59

You haven't done anything wrong and shouldn't feel bad about asking for help.

In our area we have a very active woman's aid which helps with kitting women and children out a bit more comfortably after rehousing. Have you contacted any charities like them?

Jameelah · 06/08/2022 10:02

Brito will check it out thanks so much

OP posts:
Sunnyqueen · 06/08/2022 10:02

I'm not surprised at all tbh. People are generally horrible. Checkout local churches/charitites

DenholmElliot1 · 06/08/2022 10:04

Did you not receive any positive messages? Or donations that you requested? Just horrid comments?

Sickoffamilydrama · 06/08/2022 10:06

Try your local ladiescircle.co.uk/ or round table we've donated to women before in your circumstances.

Jameelah · 06/08/2022 10:06

@Hm2020 brilliant I will check it out thanks so much

Salvation Army usually have local projects to help people in your situation.

rnsaslkih · 06/08/2022 10:07

Only an asshole would post that you are a scrounge or beg. I wouldn’t have deleted the post - most normal people would just give you something they had spare. Just ignore keyboard warriors and think what a piece of shit someone must be to abuse you online like that. You didn’t do anything wrong.

Blossomandbee · 06/08/2022 10:08

I wouldn't put requests for help out personally, or photos of my child asleep sorry, people can be cruel.
Try freecycle, or Facebook pages that offer free stuff there's usually loads. If you've got a Homestart in your area they can sometimes help. Citizens Advice might be able to point you in the direction of some charities. If you can spare small amounts of money try charity shops.

Jameelah · 06/08/2022 10:08

@DenholmElliot1 i did receive a few positive comments and a couple of offers of things but when I messaged them they never got back to me

In our neighborhood we've got a dedicated free or recycle page and there is often loads of stuff on there. Maybe try that?

I'm sorry people were so mean to you.
