I left a very abusive marriage a few months ago went through the council who offered me emergency accommodation which I accepted and was eventually offered permanent housing and some basic furniture etc for which I’m so grateful for,I have a little problem Though I have 5 children and tbh they haven’t got much as everything got left behind so I made a post on Facebook which I have now deleted asking if anyone can donate clothes or toys or bedding etc and sent a few photos so people could see I was genuine I received so much abuse calling me a scrounger a bad mom at tramp and beg etc I was so upset I’m a good mom I always put my kids first but I’m just going through hard times at the moment I’m quite a sensitive person and this has really upset me and I feel like shit tbh 😥aibu to be so upset I will post the picture of my sons room on face book Please no nasty comments 🙏

There might be a local charity that can help. I know of a couple in Birmingham if that's any use?

Jameelah · 06/08/2022 10:11

@user1471538283 i will do thanks so much

That’s awful. Which part of Facebook was it on?

See if you have a local “Buy Nothing” Facebook group. My local one is full of people asking for help with things/offering donations .

Jameelah · 06/08/2022 10:11

@BaileySharp that would be grate thanks

Facebook is a minefield. Maybe it's how you phrased your request or maybe you were just unlucky. I think it was a bit weird to post that photo of your kid in bed though. It doesn't prove anything and it's hard to imagine that your kid would want a photo like that online especially as he isn't that young.

There is nothing wrong with someone being skint and asking for help but posting pictures of your kids isn't fair on them.

I'm not surprised at all tbh. People are generally horrible. Checkout local churches/charitites

This is really not true. Generally most people want to help others who are in difficulty, as can be evidenced by the huge responses to food bank requests, clothing requests and all manner of giveaways by local people. We are in the south east.

DenholmElliot1 · 06/08/2022 10:14

Try to focus on the positives then, The negative spiteful people will always be there just try to ignore them, easier said than done. If your not having any luck getting the stuff you've requested then, as others have suggested, is there perhaps a local charity you can contact? If I knew what area you were in I'd help you look but understand if you don't want to say. Best of luck anyway and i'm sure your kids are loved and happy you sound like a great mum.

Jameelah · 06/08/2022 10:15

@RightMessUp you are right I will delete them I was just frustrated

I may have been taken aback at seeing the photo of your child still in bed in the photo but I wouldn't have been nasty to you.

I hope you get sorted out. You've been brave to leave an abusive situation and start over again, don't let the negative comments take away from that.

ImEasyLikeSundayMorning · 06/08/2022 10:17

How old is your youngest?

If they aren't yet school age, get in touch with your Health Visitor, they can get items for you.
I do it all the time for families.

Loics · 06/08/2022 10:17

As others have said, a charity might be a better bet, I just donated a lot of baby things we longer need to a local baby bank, I didn't think to check Facebook for people needing it. I know that particular baby bank also caters for older children and parents, including bedding, so it could be worth seeing if you have one local that could help.

greatblueheron · 06/08/2022 10:17

If you're in Cambridgeshire, message me.

OP Facebook sadly brings out the base animal instincts in a lot of people, whose lives must be pretty crap if the only joy they get in their lives is to stick the boot in. You sound like a lovely mum.

Jameelah · 06/08/2022 10:22

@scoopoftheday thankyou I only posted it out of frustration I have now deleted it I think there are so many scammers around people don’t no who to trust but that’s k you for your kind words

HappyHamsters · 06/08/2022 10:22

Fb can be awful but sadly some people are not genuine and look for free stuff to sell on. our local friendship group and refuges post on behalf of people in need so they dont have to do it themselves.

Jameelah · 06/08/2022 10:23

@Softplayhooray thankyou tbats means Lot to me my children are my word 🙂

Check and see if there are any grants you can apply for if you are on any benefits, maybe citizens advice could help you figure out what help you are entitled to

notacooldad · 06/08/2022 10:25

You can bet these people are just keyboard warriors and would not say anything to your face if you were sat in a room with them.
All they needed to do was scroll on but they like to hurt people.
Once typed they would not have given it a second thought.
Push it out of your head as well.

Viviennemary · 06/08/2022 10:25

I do think it is unwise to send out these types of posts. As there are so many scammers about. And good hearted folk have been taken in. It is better to rely on charity shops, freecycle churches and other more official channels.

CandyLeBonBon · 06/08/2022 10:26

A lot of people are scammers and we see that on MN as well as FB. People are right to be wary.

CuriousCatfish · 06/08/2022 10:27

The internet is full of scammers.

Proudboomer · 06/08/2022 10:28

Did you post on a Facebook free or reuse and recycle group?
If not try posting on one of these. My local one is very busy. Lots of offers and requests and the admin won’t allow any type of abuse so those types are kicked out very quickly.
I have given away everything from bed guards, single bed and mattress, clothes and even large empty boxes. I have received a phone, plant pots and even a small lawn mover.
