to think professional jobs are a bit of a joke

Knocked off at lunchtime today. Probably did 20-30h of work this week. Don't think my manager/clients cared. Sometimes I just log off and go lie in the park in the sunshine for a few hours

I make about 120k a year

I have professional qualifications which took a bit of effort to get but not talking medicine or anything like that

AIBU to think this is a bit of a joke

Any jobs going?...

Stickmansmum · 05/08/2022 21:43

No, your job is a joke. The bigger question is if you’re happy with the situation?

daintydaisies · 05/08/2022 21:45

Seconded @MichelleScarn

Oblomov22 · 05/08/2022 21:45

Eh? What's your point?

Stickworm · 05/08/2022 21:46

Humble brag 🍪

Elsiid · 05/08/2022 21:47

Do you work in finance?

possiblypassable · 05/08/2022 21:48

You can't really lump all "professional" jobs together. Some professionals work long hours and some don't. If you think your job is a joke and aren't doing the hours you feel you should be doing, maybe you should find something else to do or take the work more seriously.

Moon22 · 05/08/2022 21:49

I need a job like this.
I'm slogging like a fool for an absolute pittance! Also have a so called professional qualification but rubbish pay and zero perks!!
Good on you for having a nice job and enjoy all the perks!

cushioncovers · 05/08/2022 21:49

I'd love a job where I did next to nothing for that much money.

Halstead · 05/08/2022 21:49

There’s definitely a joke in there somewhere, but it’s not the job…

Reluctantadult · 05/08/2022 21:50

Cripes. I can't imagine earning that. I'd be on £32k if I was full time, which I'm not. Degree. Masters. 15yrs experience. I love my job, sometimes. It's got a point to it. But f me that's a lot of money to be sat in the park on. Sometimes up, surely eh!

girlmom21 · 05/08/2022 21:50

Isn't this the point? That the higher up the ranks you climb the more responsibility you have but less day to day pressure? You're hired for your specialist knowledge - that's not needed 40 hours a week but presumably you put the time in when it is?

Namenic · 05/08/2022 21:51

Good for you. What line of work are you in? If you have an in-demand skill, then why not make use of it?

Dalaidramailama · 05/08/2022 21:52

If anyone fancies doing FUCK ALL for a living whilst earning 30k a year then I would highly recommend the national mental health charities 👀. I’ve worked in a few now and it’s the same old same old….. and that is basically getting paid for fuck all

I mean 30k isn’t going to break the bank but it’s not bad for essentially doing nothing.

twilightcafe · 05/08/2022 21:52

You are being paid for your skills and expertise. Remember that, and count your blessings.

AllMyExesWearRolexes · 05/08/2022 21:53

Are you the Prime Minister?

sanityisamyth · 05/08/2022 21:54

Poor you.

Lostmywaysomuch · 05/08/2022 21:54

I'll do your job....

Is it like that every week? What are the downsides?

Toottooot · 05/08/2022 21:54

Wooptie fucking ping.

Ushkin · 05/08/2022 21:54

I think there are loads of jobs like this - more than many people realise. Tbf I’d be more than happy with the OP’s arrangement if I could find a similar one!

Building tiny living quarters under little bridges?

RagingWoke · 05/08/2022 21:55

I'd suggest maybe you aren't stretching yourself if you're that bothered about it. And this is your specific job, you won't find many in the same position.

Also professional, reasonable income but not quite 120k (do send any vacancies this way though!) and some weeks I'm quite quiet and log off early, usually because I'm waiting for someone else to do something and don't see the point in sitting around for the sake of it. Other days/weeks I work 10 hour days and barely make a dent. I feel like it balances out.

A lot of professional jobs demand higher pay because of the skills needed to do them, if you're lucky enough to not be in a role where it's understaffed and overworked you're pretty lucky!

shinynewapple22 · 05/08/2022 21:55

Hilarious Hmm

sashagabadon · 05/08/2022 21:56

Sounds fantastic

AgentProvocateur · 05/08/2022 21:56

Presumably you’re a fee earner. In which case, at your level, you’re not expected to bill FT hours, but to do BD activities and CPD.
