to think professional jobs are a bit of a joke

Knocked off at lunchtime today. Probably did 20-30h of work this week. Don't think my manager/clients cared. Sometimes I just log off and go lie in the park in the sunshine for a few hours

I make about 120k a year

I have professional qualifications which took a bit of effort to get but not talking medicine or anything like that

AIBU to think this is a bit of a joke

@TeapotTitties exactly.

Veryverycalmnow · 05/08/2022 21:57

That's nice for you

VladmirsPoutine · 05/08/2022 21:58

I think yabu to lump all professional jobs under the umbrella of being a joke but having said that it's quite rare in life to be able to have your cake and eat it too in the way that you are doing so enjoy it while you can. The hardest I have ever worked in a job was also the same job I've ever had the lowest pay.

user143677433 · 05/08/2022 21:59

I guess it depends on if you are in it for the long haul. My experience (as the boss) is that those higher up the food chain are aware, and you won’t progress, and at some point you will stop being relevant in your current role and be managed out.

So if you want to coast for a few years and then struggle, crack on, but if you want the job for longer you might want to put some effort in.

ChampagneCommunist · 05/08/2022 22:01

Seriously? You are the minority (and don't sound very professional). I am a partner in a professional services business & my parents and I routinely would 11-12 hour days at least 5 days a week and maybe take 3 weeks holiday.

Friends in the same position in other firms do the same

RenegadeMatron · 05/08/2022 22:03

You are going to get absolutely slated OP … but I agree.

All the ‘I work so hard for my £$€¥’ people - it is my opinion that that low earners work much, much, much harder than people on good salaries.

Let’s just say, I don’t work all that hard for my $$, although it can be stressful at times. DH earns three times what I do, and works 9-5 (travel aside).

ToooOldForThis · 05/08/2022 22:04

What do you do, and can I do it? I knock my pan out for a fraction of that

fakenamefornow · 05/08/2022 22:05

Well this is quite refreshing to hear OP.
Makes a change from the bollocks spouted by most high earners about how they work hard and deserve every penny.
I don't know why we swallow the lie that high earners earn a lot because they worked harder. As far as I can see, the very opposite is true, it's the lowest paid that work the hardest.

FrownedUpon · 05/08/2022 22:06

My job is very similar, but I’m only on 65k. I spend a lot of time in my garden.

Justanotherlurker · 05/08/2022 22:09

If you don't work in some form of DEI job then you do not earn 120K a year and pretend it is easy going.

Presumably you’re a fee earner. In which case, at your level, you’re not expected to bill FT hours, but to do BD activities and CPD.

Lol, if they where a fee earner they would have to climb the ranks, pretending that it's part term hours is as much believable as to them giving up their drawings at year end..

The OP is larping as after reading the latest tumblr blog.

notprincehamlet · 05/08/2022 22:14

Cabinet minister?

Cinnabomb · 05/08/2022 22:17

Please can you tell me what your job is? I earn less than half that, I DID do medicine, am now a GP and work far more hours than that for less than half your pay. Oh and it’s extremely stressful. I’d love to leave. What job do you do?

Vodka1 · 05/08/2022 22:19

love a friday night

Where are these jobs?! I only ever get work that's busy!

VladmirsPoutine · 05/08/2022 22:19

What does this mean? Are DEI jobs generally well paid? Are those jobs considered 'jokes'?

Jalisco · 05/08/2022 22:22

Cripes. I can't imagine earning that

I suspect, then, that the OP has a better imagination than you do.

Topgub · 05/08/2022 22:24

At least you're honest I suppose unlike most 'higher earners' who claim they deserve their high pay for their hard work.

BuckarooBanzai · 05/08/2022 22:25

I can't fault you OP! However I just wish that jobs we can't survive as a functioning society without were paid better.

Itisasecret · 05/08/2022 22:28

I don’t know what’s funnier, the people who fell for an obvious bait and took offence or the ones who fell for it and started spouting bollocks about high earners. All as 🎣 as each other.

Meredusoleil · 05/08/2022 22:29

Are there any vacancies OP 🙃

PandoraP · 05/08/2022 22:29

I am the same OP. I probably work 3 days a week really. The rest of the time I sleep and spend in the gym. I have worked loooong hours to get into a more senior position where I can delegate. I now think a lot of senior positions are like this.

Topgub · 05/08/2022 22:30

Do people actually care if any thread is real or not?

RedDiamond · 05/08/2022 22:30

You don't sound very professional.
