AIBU to be curious about abandoned suitcase across road?

No this is not a clickbait thread. There is a suitcase across the cross from me all day today. I wouldn't have noticed it but that just beside the suitcase (across the pathway), on the path, a bright orange traffic cone is sitting on top of a bollard. I wandered over today as I was annoying my friend with possible explanations and to provide proof that I'm not hallucinating. It's sort of the middle of nowhere in a residential area The suitcase is pushed against the innermost wall of the path and obviously the bollard is on the outermost edge of the path, adjoining the road. I recorded a video of me going to investigate it and it looks empty but secured with a strap and no I did not touch it. There is a faint number written in paper on the handle which is an 8 digit number in two sets of 4 digits. Any guesses? Would you report it? It's directly opposite my home and I'm being pretty sure that I am Victor Meldrew at this point.

🍿

Settling in for this one.

Put some rubber gloves on and open it!

luxxlisbon · 03/08/2022 21:00

Why on earth did you record a video of yourself going up to it?
The most likely scenario is fly tipping/ someone getting rid of it.

StoneofDestiny · 03/08/2022 21:01

I'd report it. Why would you not?

QuestionableMouse · 03/08/2022 21:02

I'd probably give the police a ring. But I'm saying that based on my training from work.

I absolutely would not open it.

Because my friend wouldn't believe me!

I'd report it. Why would you not?

Because all day long people have been passing by it and I do not want to sound like a fucking lunatic lol

Been shit loads of bodies dumped in suitcases....

Does it smell?

Dalint · 03/08/2022 21:03

I'm trying to attach a photo

Someone has just dumped it because they know the bin men won't take it and they are too lazy to dispose of it properly.
At least this is the reason for 95% of the crap I see absolutely everywhere all the time.
If this is unusual for where you live then you are incredibly lucky.

No and while filming myself crossing the road a dog-walker with a German Shepherd passed by it and the dog sniffed it and then moved along.

I know someone who was killed and cut up in Brazil and dumped in afew suitcases

Dalint · 03/08/2022 21:08

I think I'm attaching a photo. The suitcase is behind the very end of the silver railing pushed up against the innermost side of the footpath.

It looks empty as in it's not padded out. But it's zipped up with a strap around it.

So you live in an area where people move traffic cones and shove them on top of bollards but you can’t fathom flytipping?

KangarooKenny · 03/08/2022 21:12

Open it !

Somanysocks · 03/08/2022 21:12

If a dog isn't interested at least you know there's nothing dead in it.

watcherintherye · 03/08/2022 21:13

The cone could have been placed on top of the bollard as a sign for someone, to show them where to pick it up from.

Well this is exactly why. It's not the type of area where traffic cones end up on bollards lol

That's exactly what my friend was saying and I wouldn't have notice the suitcase was it not for the traffic cone and I am not going back over there as if it is a drop of some sort, I've now been over nosing at it earlier today so will be dead by morning lol

Is that a cemetery behind the greenery? Perhaps it's full of ghost clothes
