AIBU to be curious about abandoned suitcase across road?

No this is not a clickbait thread. There is a suitcase across the cross from me all day today. I wouldn't have noticed it but that just beside the suitcase (across the pathway), on the path, a bright orange traffic cone is sitting on top of a bollard. I wandered over today as I was annoying my friend with possible explanations and to provide proof that I'm not hallucinating. It's sort of the middle of nowhere in a residential area The suitcase is pushed against the innermost wall of the path and obviously the bollard is on the outermost edge of the path, adjoining the road. I recorded a video of me going to investigate it and it looks empty but secured with a strap and no I did not touch it. There is a faint number written in paper on the handle which is an 8 digit number in two sets of 4 digits. Any guesses? Would you report it? It's directly opposite my home and I'm being pretty sure that I am Victor Meldrew at this point.

With kindness OP, it's gone. Stop fixating on it and get on with your day.

The problem is that it vanished late yesterday evening so wasn't picked up by a bin truck this morning which means that I'm now even more curious than I was yesterday!

YABU to post here rather than reporting it!

I suspect I shall go to my grave not knowing. Beats going to my grave for knowing too much perhaps!

This should not be a problem though. At first I thought you were being dramatic and trying to create a funny thread and I apologise for that. Now it's obvious you have got yourself completely obsessed. Can you go and find something else to do as a distraction? The updates this moring about a non event are way over the top. I don't mean that in a bad way either, but the level of interest in a suitcase which isn't even there anymore isn't normal.

This is why I don't normally post on Mumsnet.

OP you are being a deliberate PITA on this thread.

You replied to me when I asked why you haven't reported it already, saying no 'normal' person has taken interest in it, but a dog had a quick sniff. In your very next reply to somebody else asking you to open it, you replied that you didn't want your head getting blown off. You're contradicting yourself for absolutely no reason other than for attention.

Shortly after, you replied to somebody else saying you should report it, by saying "why should I?". Maybe because it's YOU who is curious and/or concerned enough to start a thread about it on MN, inviting people to suggest things and guide you on what you could or should do, yet you have ignored every single one.

Why?

In case someone apologies for getting it wrong and suggests you move on from a dumped suitcase instead of obsessing over it and trying to take stills from a video a day later? Im sorry (again) but I do think finding another way to occupy your time would be much more beneficial. I didn't post that comment to be mean at all but the level of interest you have is unnecessary.

OP, I found this thread both fun and interesting.

Seemingly little things like this do inspire curiosity. It’s a function of the imagination. A bit like people-watching.

Details like this are part of the texture of life.

It was probably just an abandoned suitcase. Someone else may have reported it (looks like it was in a very public place), or maybe it was just cleared away.

The bollard, though...

Thank you for sharing this with us - I have enjoyed speculating.

The only unhealthy obsession here is you telling me how unhealthy my obsession with a suitcase is.

The reason it's more interesting to me today is because it was removed after dark. If it was still here I would be bored.
