How has this woman been missing for three weeks and we have barely had a sniff of it in the media. I hadn't seen anything at all until the last couple of days.

I don't believe that she has been found and can only hope this poor lady is found safe and well.

I think we know the answer.
Perfect example of black or asian women not mattering to the media.
Imagine if she had been white?
Imagine if she had been white and middle class?

christmas2022 · 03/08/2022 15:27

I have to agree. It is sad. It is infuriating. It is racist. It is sickening. It is incompetent. It is embarrassing. It is still the norm.

There are other recent examples too, both male and female.

Unfortunately people have been arrested for murder in this case, so I fear this could have the worst outcome.

Is there another thread on this or does literally no one care?

Can you post a link?

BruisedSkies · 04/08/2022 07:00

I hadn’t heard about this.

KangarooKenny · 04/08/2022 07:01

I hate to make comparisons but this is night and day to the Sarah Everard case. May she rest in eternal peace.

I'm midlands and have seen it. It's to do with what else is on, I think.

Chakraleaf · 04/08/2022 07:07

I hadn't heard :( how awful

BruisedSkies · 04/08/2022 07:08

That’s awful. I’d not even seen it mentioned on BBC news. Maybe it was but not on the front page. Her poor family.

MassageForLife · 04/08/2022 07:11

The thing is, literally hundreds of people go missing every day. We don't hear about the vast majority of them. It averages at somewhere between 800 and 900.

Local media are much more likely to pick up on anyone missing - no matter their age, sex, attractiveness - than national media. If you are interested in missing persons, there are much better places to get than information from than the news.

I bet none of them are student nurses though. And if they are they are usually in the media.

I saw this on the news for the first time last night - I am East Midlands

The interview with her mum was heartbreaking

Just awful

Sharrowgirl · 04/08/2022 07:39

I don’t think it matters whether it’s in the media or not. Not every case can be, there are too many. What actually matters is whether the police are investigating it properly and putting their full resources into it, and it seems like they are here.

SaintHelena · 04/08/2022 07:44

I'd imagine the police had a good deal of info and were following it up eg number plate of van, So it wasn't a mystery. Also it wasn't an area where there are many passers by to appeal to. I would think local people would know about it. 3 men have been arrested.

YoSofi · 04/08/2022 07:46

Oh come on, if she was white it would be all over the news.

She is not just another missing person, men have been arrested on suspicion of murder so foul play is suspected.

I say the above as a white woman.

Totally agree, this is shocking

Of course it does. It's word of mouth and people will be aware especially as time goes on. Agree theres a lot of people going missing and other issues so easy to miss a particular story.

You must be living under a rock though to not notice the lack of coverage on ethnic minorities..... give it anything to do with selling drugs or along then lines and you will be the first to see it all over the news. Biggest crimal in UK....

It was on the front page a few days ago. I don't know for how long. That's where I heard about it. Not the top section with the photos but further down then yesterday or Tuesday there was an update about three people having been arrested. She's been missing for the best part of a month yet the appeal has only been launched in the past few days which is interesting.

AllPlayedOut · 04/08/2022 08:09

And yes it's awful to say the least. I appreciate that in Owami's case nothing has been confirmed yet even though that is the suspicion but I'm just constantly reading women being murdered and it's beyond sickening.

eosmum · 04/08/2022 08:17

Its disgusting that there has been nothing about it. One of her colleagues only found out about it when she saw a missing notice on a lamp post. Surely everyone she worked with would have been interviewed. It was sent to me by someone she works with last week and I've been keeping watch on the story and am shocked about the lack of attention, she is missing a whole month.

oviraptor21 · 04/08/2022 08:20

My assumption from reading some of the press is that there were reasons that may have made it not initially obvious that she was missing and thus the case did not become a potential murder investigation until later. Unlike the Sarah Everard case where it was quickly established that she had been abducted.

Seeline · 04/08/2022 08:21

It's been all over local news and social media. Along with several other missing people including several children and a vulnerable OAP. I think there are just too many missing people for all to hit the headlines.
