Student nurse missing last seen in Croydon

How has this woman been missing for three weeks and we have barely had a sniff of it in the media. I hadn't seen anything at all until the last couple of days.

I don't believe that she has been found and can only hope this poor lady is found safe and well.

I'm on the South Coast and saw it in the daily mail .
I believe they have arrested people for murder so not sat on their laurels , there may have been reasons for the amount of media coverage

HibiscusIsland · 11/08/2022 14:50

Really worrying. I wonder how they identified the 5 men they arrested. There is a hospital in West Croydon so I don't know if there's any link there with her being a recently qualified nurse, although it's not where her new job is based. Or maybe she agreed to meet someone she met online. I think they'll get to the bottom of it as they seem to be putting a lot resources into investigating it from what they say. Poor family and poor Owami

ImEasyLikeSundayMorning · 11/08/2022 15:15

That's strange, because I've heard it on the radio, read it in the news and seen it on TV.

Several times on each. I've been loosely following the story and so far 5 people have been arrested, sounds as though they have reason to believe she has been murdered.

She looks utterly broken in that CCTV footage.

RudsyFarmer · 11/08/2022 15:29

They are talking as if they know she’s been murdered in the Mail article. Could it be a case of already knowing what’s happened but wanting winesses?

It feels the little boy that’s missing in Turkey is also being reported in an odd way. I can’t work out if the mother had abducted him or whether both the mother and child are missing, presumed hurt. I always think when these cases are reported in a peculiar way it’s because the journalists have been told to not mention
aspects by the police.

Yes it is strange to arrest them for murder yet they are still looking for her. Also agree about the little boy in turkey.

neverbeenskiing · 11/08/2022 15:39

Oh come on, if she was white it would be all over the news.

Totally agree. But this thread will just end up full of people doing mental gymnastics to convince themselves it's nothing to do with race.

BringMeTea · 11/08/2022 15:53

I have seen lots of coverage. Hope she is found.

HibiscusIsland · 11/08/2022 15:58

I agree it's strange there's been murder arrests with no body.

the80sweregreat · 11/08/2022 16:01

I've not seen much about this case online or on the tv news.
The little boy and his mum in Turkey is also strange as well.
We do live in a wicked world it seems :(

Masterblasterjammin · 11/08/2022 16:19

I’ve seen multiple news stories on Owami Davies - BBC, Daily Mail, Guardian, Independent, and I have done for sometime. It literally is being reported on.

What I feel is so different this time is the social media coverage - Sarah Everard’s friends and family went on an instant SM campaign to try and find her, and this then brought more and more attention as posts were shared. Then the traditional media coverage over Sarah really intensified when the serving police officer was arrested.

Both situations are desperately sad.

They think she could still be in the area and in need of help? Sounds like she could still be alive, so maybe hostage?

I really hope they get to the bottom of this soon and would be amazing if she is found alive.

I think the issue was that the initial three weeks that she was missing has little to no coverage.

The sad thing is that hundreds of people go missing every day, many different reasons and some do not want to be found. Whilst the police log missing adults they cannot look for them unless there's a reason to believe there's foul play or they are particularly vulnerable - after all if I want to go off in my car for a few days without telling anyone I am within my rights.

With the media they also need to try to work out if media attention is even helpful. Some cases it is obvious that there's foul play, it has nothing to do with ethnicity or gender - it's simply a fact

Thanks for essentially denying racism doesn't exist in these type of circumstances.

I appreciate all you have said but there absolutely ARE times that racism is a factor. You cannot deny that.

was mentioned tonight on 6pm bbc news.
I hope they find her soon. They said she could be in danger :(

Her mother has spoken to the media and made a plea.

This is a race issue.

ChestnutGrove · 16/08/2022 23:38

I wonder how they could arrest people without knowing what has happened to her.

RJnomore1 · 16/08/2022 23:42

It’s happened before so times correctly and sometimes not, like with Gaia the teenage girl a few years back. The arresting. I just hope that unlike that case they haven’t narrowed the enquiry down too quickly as a result.

RJnomore1 · 16/08/2022 23:43

Sorry that was to @ChestnutGrove - it was nothing to do with the racism discussion

christmas2022 · 04/08/2022 07:02

I hate to make comparisons but this is night and day to the Sarah Everard case. May she rest in eternal peace.

I think it is different in that the police have arrested 3 men on suspicion of murder, it indicates that more is known than we are privy to. It does not sound like she was taken off the street by someone unknown, something else had gone on.

Where women have been attacked by a random unknown they have seen similar coverage regardless of race, it is shocking to think of someone grabbed going about their business.

I'm midlands and have seen it. It's to do with what else is on, I think.

I'm in Scotland and I've known about it for a while - her photograph was published and is striking. The idea that she has come to harm at the hands of several men doesn't bear thinking about. Of

This morning's local BBC tv news repeated the appeal.

I agree, I've been seeing it everywhere since she went missing

Confused why people are saying it hasn't been publicised

GyozaGuiting · 17/08/2022 07:36

With missing people it’s often that the police know more than we do- with everard she disappeared out of thin air and it was quite likely not of her own volition.
Thousands of people go missing each year and often the police don’t put it into the media straight away, for dozens of reasons.

This case does look like it’s taken a dark turn, I pray she’s ok.

Oh that does sound optimistic! I must admit I'd assumed there was no hope.

I don't actually watch main stream news- I hear it on the radio in passing while I'm cooking, and read it on my phone. I didn't know the situation had potentially changed. I do hope they find something.

It sounds as though there may be a back story, though I can't imagine what it is.
